I am a 47-year-old self-employed father of two children, and I own the cottage jointly with my partner, Karen. We love the relaxed pace of the life in Seahouses, the cosy old-fashioned pubs, the superb wildlife and birdwatching, the stunning castles and coastal views and the countless beautiful walks along the beach and the dunes.
Why they chose this property
Karen and I both have fond childhood memories of holidays on the beautiful Northumberland beaches. We bought the cottage in 2002 when our children were very young and have enjoyed many special family holidays in it since. With lovely walks, spectacular views and acres of sandy beaches just a few minutes' walk from the front door, we have found it a cosy and convenient base from which to explore our favourite part of the British Isles. This part of Northumberland is one of the most unspoilt areas of England, and its rich wildlife and cosy character pubs and restaurants have kept us returning year after year. My whole family has, time and again, relished the relaxed pace of life offered by a break in Seahouses.
What makes this property unique
In Seahouses, the stresses & strains of working life ebb away in a beautiful harbour village which has lost none of its historic charm. The shopping centres of Newcastle and Gateshead are less than an hour's drive, but also a world away. The addition of an indoor heated pool and gym at the village leisure centre has proven an added attraction, while the village's proximity to the pretty market towns of Alnwick (recently voted as the town with the best quality of life in the UK!) and Berwick, has been a great benefit. We have travelled further afield to Edinburgh (90 minutes' drive) to see the castle and the zoo, but Seahouses itself offers so much, with a warm friendly welcome, a smattering of unusual craft and gift shops, some superb pubs offering great value food & two Indian restaurants.
