About this property
Family Friendly Lake Vacation
Lovely lakefront cottage located on all-sports Long Lake includes: a large master bedroom with king size bed, a day bed, large walk in closet, work desk and floor space for blow-up bed, second bedroom includes 1 full size bed & 1 single (twin bed), third bedroom includes 1 queen size bed, two full bathrooms with plenty of towels, kitchen with new double oven, dishwasher and microwave, beverage refrigerator, wine refrigerator and bar area, a comfy living room with electric fireplace, large sectional and 55" TV, and sunroom with a pull-out couch (sleeps 2) and large dining area that has amazing views of the lake from every window, a large deck directly over the lake below with a gated locking system perfect for small children, an outdoor fire pit area, a gas grill. Home includes 2 Tvs (1 with cable/apple TV & 1smart Tv), phone and internet; washer and dryer. Water softener and on-demand water heater, water cooler.
Perfect for 6 guests. It is important to note that while the house could sleep up to 8 (if also using the sunroom pull-out couch), larger parties may feel crowded, and would be sharing sleeping quarters, so please keep this in mind when making your final booking decision. There are 3 main sleeping rooms, along with a 3 Seasons room that has a Sofa Sleeper for 2, so multiple families could each have their own room if desired. Note, there is a Barn on the premises that is currently undergoing construction & used for storage only (not available for rental usage. )Unfortunately, pets are not allowed.
The lakefront is directly below the house! It includes a lounge area and long dock, excellent for swimming, fishing and docking a boat. Little ones will enjoy catching minnows with their nets in the shallow water! The lake side boat house is filled with water toys, and has a refrigerator and electricity, so blowing up floats is easy! Enjoy the four adult kayaks, two youth kayaks, splash pad, and SUP board for lake fun.
During the season, the owner will have a pontoon & a Jet Ski (on lifts) next to the dock (we don't rent for safety and liability reasons). Guests are welcome to bring their own watercraft or can rent from a local Marina (ask owners for more info). Guests can use our dock to tie a boat on the opposite side of dock from our pontoon.
In the unlikely event you want to leave the cottage, nearby amenities include: Corey Lake Farms (Farmer's Market and U-pick seasonal produce), restaurants, horseback riding at Camp Eberhart, Swiss Valley Ski Resort and the charming downtown area of Three Rivers. In Three Rivers, you will find anything you need: grocery stores, petting zoos, movie theatre, boutiques, bowling alley, mini golf and medical services.
Looking for day trip ideas? Check out Shipshewana for shopping, festivals and Amish goods. Harbor Country offers beautiful beach days on Lake Michigan's shores and winery tours. ************************************************************************************ Notre Dame Stadium is only a 50-minute drive from our lake house. Hunters are also welcome to stay on our property during the season. For the winter, enjoy our heated home for some ice fishing or fun skiing at Swiss Valley (just 15 minutes away)!

The Long Lake cottage was clean, updated, nicely decorated and very peaceful! The 4 of us were very impressed. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat! Thank you for sharing your lovely property with us John and Jenny!

Thanks for the kind words. We'd love to have you back in the future.
We enjoyed our short stay here. The cottage is nicely updated inside. The beds in the primary bedroom and the bedroom on the main floor, were extremely comfortable. The kitchen had anything you might need in terms of utensils and dinnerware. And all of this in a beautiful setting on Long Lake.

Great place, and cool location
Loved the place. The only downside was the water from the taps smelled really bad ( due to an old well ) Other than that, plenty of games to play and lots of stuff to have a disconnected vacation for a couple of days.

We appreciate this 5 star rating. While the well water does give off a distinct odor, it is consistent with what well water smells like and is typical of what other homes on the lake experience. With this said, we do provide our renters filtered water through the refrigerator/freezer along with a water cooler for drinking purposes.
My family had a blast. We enjoyed bringing our boat and being able to dock it on the property. Kids loved fishing, finding turtles, and playing in the water. The house is nice and clean, the guest house was not. Hosts were accommodating and responsive. We would stay again. Thanks for sharing this nice lake house with us!

Thanks for staying w/ us Kim. We are glad that you enjoyed your time at the house. Regarding the guest house/barn, it is rustic (musty) and not ideal for some guests. I'm glad we were able to help your party to leverage additional sleeping space to make your stay more accomodating.
We laid my brother to rest this past weekend. The cottage was a quiet place to prepare for his service, then reflect & remember our times together spent with family on Long Lake as children.
Thank you
We were only in for a short weekend but would love to come back for more. Speaking of more there was lots of room. The outside areas went on forever. The couches and seating would hold a large family or extended family. Great Soave well decorated. No worries if it’s s rain day the covered 3 seasons room will keep you dry as you enjoy the bundle of board fanes they have waiting for you. Or as we did enjoy a cup or two of coffee from the Keurig in the morning and watch the sunrise and wildlife from the elevated deck. A great place just as described.

Thanks Jeff. We are glad you enjoyed the place over the short weekend and would welcome you back in the future.
We chose this property because we have camped on lakes our entire life. We enjoy fishing and boating and swimming and this property had everything we enjoy as a family. My parents are getting older and can no longer camp in tents so we thought this rental would be perfect. It was large enough for all of us. It was quiet and peaceful and the view was amazing. The only thing we did not like was the stars to get to the water. They were in great shape but it was hard for my parents to get up and down and it made me nervous carrying my 8 month old up and down them. Once we got to the water it was beautiful. The owners were helpful and available if we needed them. Overall great location and great property.

We are glad you enjoyed the house. Regarding the stairs to the lake, unfortunately, they may in fact be daunting for older folks. My wife and I are in our late 40s and have no problem with the stairs. There is a boat drop on the other side of the lake and may be used to pick people up on a boat. It’s important to note that our stairs aren’t any more or less than other homes nearby & that being higher up on the lake affords the best views from the back deck. Thanks again for spending your family trip at our home.
This lake home was equipped to the max!. We were staying here to be close to my son's wedding venue only a few miles away. This was perfect to accommodate our out of town family. We didn't take the time to read the house manual that we received just prior to check-in because we were busy getting ready for the wedding, but should have. We needed a porta-crib and could have found that there IS one there. The view is lovely, the kitchen and everything provided worked well.
I would say that the guest/bunk house is super cute and cozy looking, but not comfortable for everyone. The humidity made it a little musty and some found that uncomfortable. However, there was plenty of sleeping space for our group in the main house - including comfy couches.
I would book again for out of town guests if the need arose. We live too close to call this a vacation stay for my husband and I - but the lake was beautiful and we enjoyed our visit.

We are glad you enjoyed the house. Regarding the guest/bunk house, it does tend to get musty. With this said, it comes equipped with a self-contained AC/De-humidifier unit, fans & even heat for the colder months. Thanks again for spending your son's wedding weekend at our home.
For our group of friends this was everything we could have asked for. We had great days on the lake, taking full advantage of the kayaks! The evenings were amazing on the deck. It was exactly what a group of moms needed to relax and catch up with old friends. We plan to make this an annual trip, and hope to enjoy this home for years to come.

We are glad you enjoyed the house. The deck cleanliness is a fair point but the weather makes it difficult to keep in order at times. We would love to have you back.
We enjoyed our stay. The owners have made nice updates to the home; notably the kitchen and master bedroom. The lake is very clean w/ clear water and a sandy bottom around the dock. There are several mature oak trees on the property that provide shade and keep the house cool. The only downside to this is the trees dropped acorns & and other debris on the large deck which required a lot of sweeping on our part. This may just be a problem in spring/early summer. If I were to stay here again I’d bring a leaf blower to clean it off. The kayaks were definitely a highlight for the kids as was the foam float that can be tied to the dock. We were disappointed that the shed was too musty to spend time in comfortably. I’d advise anyone planning to use that as sleeping space to reconsider. Even with the windows open and fan operating it never aired out. I think the rug and bedding has absorbed a lot of the moisture. There were several containers of Damp Rid that were full. The week before we were there was pretty rainy, maybe later in the summer when The weather is dryer it isn’t as much of a problem. John was very responsive and booking was easy. Overall this is a nice getaway in the Three Rivers area.
The process of renting the property was extremely easy. John and Jenny were very responsive, and even proactive as a host to ensure all questions were answered, and all of our needs were met. The property is well maintained, with a beautiful view inside and out. Very serene, quiet, and breathtaking.
Great for a small get away, or for an entire family (and then some) to spend some quality time! I definitely recommend.
Awesome place for my wife and I to get away for a few days to celebrate our anniversary. The house was perfect and had everything that we needed. Beautiful deck overlooking the lake with everything you could want for the lake in the boathouse. Look forward to going back in the summer.

Comfortable home, friendly responsive owners.
The lake is beautiful, clear and deep and the home very comfortable. The owners were very accommodating and quick to communicate. Perfect with teenagers as they loved having their “private” space in the bunk house to sleep. Comfy mattresses all around! The shower upstairs is very short (we are all over 5’9” and weren’t able to comfortably use it) but the one downstairs was good. Kitchen had all the comforts of home. We needed to do a bit of cleaning when we moved in for the week that we didn’t expect but the owners rectified that situation with us. We all loved catching frogs and turtles along the shore at night, the stars are incredible from the water, paddle boarding, kayaking and playing on the large float mat were some highlights during the days. We fished each day with every lure in the box but never got a bite. Another thing to note: There are 43 stairs to the waterfront and not much of a “beach” or grass area down there so if you aren’t very agile take that into consideration. Up in the house, There were four of us on line each day with school and work and the internet supported it all. And the colors turned bright just before we left. Hello Fall! Thank you John and Jenny
We’ve been coming to John’s place for a few years and always has the best experience. The house has the perfect location and the best deck overlooking the lake. The house itself is great, perfect for energizing and families activities. John is very accommodating and always quick to get back you you with questions. We will definitely be back!
Great place to hangout and relax with Family and Friends

About the host
Hosted by John Hounihan
Our family of four enjoys this cottage year-round. Our 2 boys spend all their cottage days outside. Summers are filled with swimming, fishing, kayaking, catching turtles, frogs, and fireflies, making s'mores and playing flashlight tag. In the winter, they enjoy sledding and tubing at Meyer Broadway Park, skiing at Swiss Valley Resort, walking across the lake and checking in with the ice fishermen, watching the snowmobilers zip by, and at dusk, the red fox scamper across the frozen lake! Fall brings beautiful colors to Long Lake and the wildlife viewing is spectacular. This is our second home- we enjoy elegant vacations around the world, but truly consider this "our happiest place." We've made many wonderful memories here, and we hope you will, too!
Why they chose this property
Just a short drive from the Chicago suburbs, where we live, our cottage quickly delivers us an escape from the daily grind. We enjoy our "together time" at the lake, playing board games, snuggling on the couch to watch movies, boating, water sports and fishing.
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with our cottage the moment we stepped out on the deck and took in the stunning wrap-around lake views! Our custom made, long pine table on our deck is a favorite gathering spot where we spend much of our time visiting with friends and family - all have a place at our table. We love to entertain...a full house is a happy house!
