This guest was truly the exception – the one bad apple who tried to spoil the whole bunch. However, she could not because the facts speak for themselves. Prior to this guest’s review, this property had an 4.5 star average rating on Vrbo over tens of guests. It also has a 4.7 star rating on the largest vacation rental site in the world averaged over 50 plus guests. Moreover, it has a 4.8 star rating for cleanliness. When the guest arrived, she mentioned that it wasn’t quite what she imagined and asked to be assigned to another condo. She gave no substantive reason, but as a courtesy, we tried to accommodate her anyway. We would have done so but were sold out in all our condos. Non- coincidentally, she called back shortly thereafter and cited a couple claims about cleanliness. At that point, I immediately called my professional cleaning company, Airhost, and had them return to the condo to address any possible claims. Airhost did not only that, but also completely re-cleaned the entire condo. I arrived myself to oversee the cleaning and ensured the guest I would not the cleaners leave until she was perfectly satisfied. When Airhost was done, the guest said she was very happy – both to myself and to Airhost's owner. The guest then occupied the condo for the entire duration of her stay. If she truly felt there was something wrong with it, she should not have told us otherwise, nor should she have remained there to consume the stay, but should have reported her claims to Vrbo then and left. She did neither. After the stay was over, the guest created a laundry list of false claims about the condo, demanded a refund and threatened to ask Vrbo for it if we would not comply. We reminded her that she applauded how clean the condo was when I sent in the Airhost cleaners, and that she had not cited any of her other claims previously. We agreed to disagree and let Vrbo be the judge. Vrbo did review the situation and found that our offering was just as described and very amply clean. As a result Vrbo upheld that the guest should be charged for the full stay without concession. Indignant with this outcome, the guest redoubled her extortion threat to leave a scorching review for us unless we refunded her stay despite Vrbo’s determination. We refused to cave in to her extortion and so she completed her threat. We only ask that the reader please see all our reviews both here and elsewhere to get a true and accurate view of this wonderful beach condo.

Our average occupancy for this condo is 6 people throughout the summer and aside from this outlying review, this condo has a solid 4.5* rating on this site and a 4.8* rating on the largest vacation rental site for parties of this size. Additionally, this guest actually brought 7 people despite only paying for 6. Regarding the hot tub, we told this guest that our hot tub was under maintenance and that we made a special arrangement for them to use the hot tub of a nearby four star hotel in the meanwhile, which other guests happily did. We were proactive in not only communicating this, but coming up with a great interim solution for the hot tub – something which we think few hosts would bother to do. No one contacted us regarding these things but instead we did them of our own volition. We only wish that this guest remembered the special accommodations we made for them rather than lamenting our temporarily closed private hot tub. Please see our other reviews which speak to our responsiveness as hosts. As for the posted photos, all the interior photos are specific to this condo and none of them belong to others. Some of the exterior ones belong to common areas that this condo is entitled to use. None of our other reviews suggest that any photos are inaccurate and indeed they are not. There is nothing but full disclosure here. We only wish this guest did the same when representing their party size and needs.

This condo does face the ocean and has wonderful views of it. There is not another review neither here nor on any other rental site which says otherwise. This condo is on the west side of the building (ocean side) and has large windows which allow a view of the ocean, sand and beach boardwalk. You can see these beautiful sights from not only the kitchen but also the living room. The air conditioning system is brand new and admittedly there was a brief outage during this guest’s stay. There was an adjustment that had to be made by the installer, but it all works perfectly now. We’re sorry that this one guest had to experience a partial outage. We also note that very few condos near the beach in San Diego have air conditioning at all, so it’s really a special treat to have it, and fortunately, our system works perfectly now. The couch that this guest refers to is also brand new and very nice. Part of its extreme comfort is due to it having a memory foam bed mounted on wooden support slats rather than the thin conventional mattress that most sleeper couches have which are mounted on bars and springs that pierce through ones back. Many owners call it the most comfortable sleeper couch they have even been on, and we also agree. As for parking, we offered this guest two parking options: (1) the garage of our own condo building which they could not use because their vehicle was extra large, and (2) a parking space at a nearby hotel which we offer when guests bring very large vehicles that can’t be accommodated by conventional spaces. If this guest’s vehicle had not been so large, it would have easily fit in our private garage or one of the hotel’s extra large spaces if not their conventional spaces.
