About this property
Super Cute, Cozy, Historic Sea Spray Cottage #5
Sea Spray Cottages were built in 1950. There are 5 cottage in total, each cottage is similar to the others, but unique in its own way.
My wife and I have been operating the SEA SPRAY COTTAGES OBX for vacations rentals since 2009. We run a mom and pop operation, an experience from a day gone-bye but thoroughly enjoyed by our guests.
Sea Spray Cottage #5 is perfect for those looking for a quaint space to enjoy time at the beach. It has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other bedroom has 2 twins. It has a comfortable living room with wide-screen TV, living room/dining area and wide galley kitchen. You will not believe how comfortable and charming it is until you spend some time there. If you are looking for a private getaway or to vacation with just your immediate family or just you and just your significant other, this is the place for you.
Dogs are welcome, we try to keep it to 2 (it's primarily a cottage for folks- not a kennel). $125 for the first two and $100 each after that but you must let us know if beyond 2, PLEASE.
The location can't be beat, the beach is just across the street and at about mile post 11.7 (just south of Nags Head Pier and north of Snow Bird's Soft Serve Ice Cream) where all that Nags Head has to offer is close by.
The cottage has an awesome front porch with panoramic views. The porch is great for lounging and enjoying your favorite beverage as you watch the world go by as folks stroll, run and bike along the multi-use path that is across the street. The cottage also has an awesome back porch with a bistro table for morning coffee or an intimate dinner.
Bed linens and towels NOT provided, but our assistant manager, Billy has a side gig where he can suite you up for a fee. Just ask for his number. Check in is at 4 and check out is at 10:00.
If your desired dates of travel are not available in this cottage, we have 4 others. There are 5 cottages in total at Sea Spray Cottages OBX, all similar in vintage, but unique from one another. If you are a regular on the Outer Banks, they are the gray cottages with the pink doors on the beach road in Nags Head.

Both the front and back porches are enclosed so it’s great for pets and kids (my dogs LOVED the front porch)! Super cute layout and a quick walk to the beach! Hosts were lovely and responded quickly.
This was a great property for our visit. My husband and I, and our dog Rosie, loved the house. Perfect for dogs. The location was great! So close to the beach access and local eateries and ice cream! We didn’t cook, but the kitchen had what we needed for coffee and cocktails. We’d definitely stay here again.
Was a wonderful long weekend. The cottage had everything you could ask for. Very clean. Great location. Comfortable beds and pillows. Perfect deck with comfortable sesting. Internet
Nice little cottage, like a throwback in time! Loved the yard for the dogs. The couch was not comfortable, but okay for a short stay! Loved the short walk to the beach!

Interesting perspective on the couches. We like them so much we have them in the cottage we keep for ourselves only in the white denim. Guess like mattresses, it’s super subjective.
Great house for a couples quick getaway. We eat out and spend most of the day at the beach so the houses we rent are really just for sleeping but this house was close to a beach access, the pier, and central to all our favorite restaurants and ice cream joints. We would stay again.

Perfect location for a single family.
This is our third stay at a Sea Spray Cottage, the first at this one, and its our new favorite. Only downside is that the wood paneling makes it kind of dark in the family room.

The original unpainted tongue and groove paneling does provide a more subdued surrounding. We do have a number of lamps and overhead lights (5 in total) for those guests that prefer to brighten up the space. Glad you enjoyed the visit and have a new fav.
This was a very fun day. The weather was perfect, the house is great, I had a really good time. Thank you!

Relaxing, Perfect Space, Great Porch, Close Ron beach Access, and Great Price
Really enjoyed our stay. Great price! Owner was awesome with communication and quick last minute booking. Relaxing weekend with just the right amount of space. Had the Ols Nags Head Beach cottage charm. Enjoyed the porch, close proximity to beach access and restaurants. Bathroom could use a little updating but all and all a good rent and will stay again.

Cozy and relaxing
A bit dated, but perfect otherwise. I actually like the old school feel. It has a cabin by the ocean thing going on. The owners were really helpful and responsive and we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again!

NEW in 2018: the bath has been renovated and the hardwood floors refinished!
The property is very cute! Very clean inside. The location is amazing. The hosts are super responsive. There are all sorts of little things around the cottage that make it feel like home, or cozy, or helpful, or fun. Even games in the closet. Books on the shelf. A step stool. Kitchen items that are handy, even in top cabinets over fridge!

Close to the beach
The property was a little wore down and the old squeaky bed need to be replace and the guest before us must had a dog's the house small like wet dogs but after we went to the market and brought cleaning supplies it was better, but overall for the price we got what we paid for.

MOST of our guest cherish the character that we offer, but it is not for everyone. Thanks for the feedback on the bed, all tighted up and squeek is GONE. Actually, I have had a guest "complain" that the mattress was SO comfortable that she could not tear herself out of it to watch the sunrise. Having missed that opportunity, she rebooked for another shot at it. NEW in 2018: the bathroom has been renovated and the hardwood floors refinished.
We found this cottage because of their flexibility and availability. A lot of rentals in Nags Head are by the week, and we had some plans that fell through, so we needed a quick change. As soon as I booked it through VRBO, John was asking if i needed anything and was very welcoming.
Upon arrival, the cottage was clean and comfortable. Very close to the beach and we could walk to ice cream shops. Grocery store was a quick drive.
Bathroom was very nice and updated. Bedrooms were just right size for our family of four.
Thank you for a great vacation!
This rustic but cute cottage pretty much sits in the middle of the Outer Banks and was perfect for us to travel throughout the four days we were there from one end to the other. We just needed to walk down the road about six houses to access the beach. Be sure to take your own bedding and linens. (Or pay $40 to have them supplied). There is no ocean view but you certainly could hear it. Our dog enjoyed the front porch. Parking was just in front of the house. Don’t rent if you can’t do steps.
We had a short weekend getaway and this cottage was perfect! It was very clean and inviting. Communication before arrival was very clear and when I reached out with questions, they were promptly answered. I can’t wait to stay here again!
Was a great experience. The cottage is small and cozy perfect for us and our chihuahua.
I know about the property for a coworker. We weren't disappointed the neighborhood is quiet, closer to the beach, supermarket, some attractions and restaurants. We enjoy our visit.
Cottage was nice for a week at beach with teens and small dog. Very casual and no frills, but clean and suited our needs.

About the host
Hosted by John Vollino
My wife, Laura Lee Garrett, has been vacationing on the Outer Banks her entire life. She introduced me, John Vollino, to the area when we were dating and have been vacationing there ever since. In 1991 we purchased our first cottage. In 2007 we purchased the Sea Spray Cottage Court and in 2009 we started renting Sea Spray to vacationers. At the end of 2015 we were fortunate to be in a position to purchase Cottage #5. We renovated the cottage over the next 4 months and are now able to offer it to vacationers as another rental options. Like the other Sea Spray Cottages, this cottage was also built in 1950.
Why they chose this property
It was located immediately to the south of Sea Spray Cottage Court, it is build in the same style and it makes perfect sense to add it to our cottection of vintage cottages to offer to guests.
What makes this property unique
Unlike most of the newer cottages being build on the beach, this cottage, and all of the other Sea Spray Cottages, offer an intimate space that if full of character and also offers modern conveniences.
