About the host
Hosted by Mark
I’m originally from Shropshire on the Welsh border — a country boy at heart — which probably explains why Clapham felt like the perfect blend of city and countryside for me. After 20 years flying for British Airways, I was lucky enough to see much of the world and develop a deep appreciation for homes with character. When I began buying and restoring period properties in my spare time, I found enormous satisfaction in bringing them back to life.
Gardening has always been part of who I am — from the age of five, I was mentored by an elderly neighbour who once tended the royal gardens. That early influence shaped my passion for design, detail, and harmony between indoor and outdoor spaces. This flat has been my proudest restoration project: combining history, craftsmanship, and the calm of a private garden right in the heart of London.

Why they chose this property
When I first viewed this flat, I was actually chasing a completely different property — but the moment I saw this one, overlooking the Common, I knew it was special. The Regency façade, tall ceilings, and light pouring in through the sash windows instantly captured me. Clapham Common offers the best of both worlds: leafy open space and vibrant city life.
There’s an easy village feel here — cafés, bakeries, and restaurants line the streets, yet you can be in Central London within 20 minutes. The neighbourhood has an authentic charm that’s increasingly rare in London — creative, friendly, and full of character — which makes it a joy to call home and share with others.

What makes this property unique
This home is the result of years of patient restoration. When we started, we discovered layers of history — ceilings that had been lowered three times over the decades, ornate mouldings hidden beneath plaster, and original features waiting to breathe again. Over three years, I worked with a brilliant craftsman named Eddie to restore every detail by hand, marrying period elegance with modern comfort.
Today, the flat feels both grand and welcoming: high ceilings, natural light, and a private garden with a self-contained cabin that adds a sense of privacy and calm. Even estate agents have said they’ve never seen anything quite like it. It’s a rare balance of heritage and tranquility in Zone 2 London — and I hope guests feel as lucky staying here as I do living here.
