About this property

Mountain Retreat! Vintage Creekside Cabin.

Enjoy a Rocky Mountain experience in this rustic, original 1958 cabin nestled in the woods. This location is a beautiful retreat for families and anyone wanting to enjoy the outdoors. Our cabin is located on Grimes Creek with almost an acre of serene forest and wonderful scenery.

Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast who likes to hike and bike or someone who enjoys the peaceful tranquility of fishing or reading a book by the stream, there are plenty of activities for the whole group. Vallecito Lake is about 1.5 miles down the road for many water activities including fishing, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. There are also many hikes available in the surrounding National Forest, with one trailhead into the Wimanuche Wilderness within walking distance.

The cabin has 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom is located on the main floor with two bedrooms located upstairs. The kitchen is well equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, stove and utensils. The dining room seats a large group and opens directly into the living room. The living room is furnished with 3 sofas, a leather reclining armchair and original fireplace.

From the living room you can see the front of the property looking out to pine trees or to the back of the property with a view of the stream. A sliding glass door opens directly to a wood deck from the living room. Enjoy the beautiful sounds of the stream as you relax on the deck. Also located in the back yard is a gas grill for your outdoor BBQ meals. There are plenty of lawn chairs, adironack chairs and a picnic table for your outdoor seating. As night falls, roast some marshmallows in the fire pit.

Our cabin is a peaceful retreat with excellent cell phone service if you need to connect to the rest of the world. A 40” TV is located in the living room with an Xbox for those rainy days. There are plenty of board games and books that have been collected over the years for everyone to enjoy. For those who want to play outdoor games, we have a volleyball/badminton court and horseshoes.
**Please note we do not have Wi-fi but we have a strong signal for a hot spot.

We had an amazing time here! The volleyball court, badminton and horse shoes were a big hit with our kids. Loved the creek running behind and sitting out there in the morning with my coffee was my favorite part. The beds were comfortable and the cabin had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this place.

We loved staying at this mountain retreat! it was so quiet and so relaxing. I especially loved laying in bed with the windows open and listening to the creek as I drifted off to sleep. Plenty of space to park our 4x4s and excellent nearby 4x4 trails. It was a perfect vacation!

The cabin is perfectly curated and very cozy! We loved the DVDs and board games, and all the instructions were extremely helpful. We loved hearing the sound of the creek when we had the windows open, and having a wood indoor fireplace was one of our favorite parts of the trip. 10/10 would recommend!

Great host, quick response time and willing to work with you. Reason im giving 4 stars is the yard and down by the stream was unkept. We wanted to enjoy being outside more. Also, didnt realize until we got there the neighbors on each side of you are very close. No seclusion at all. The cabin was as described an old cabin with a camp like atmosphere. Cabin was clean and equipped with everything you need.

Amazing Cabin Experience

This was our very first trip to Colorado and also using VRBO. We wanted a cabin experience and stumbled across this listing. It was the perfect choice! We had a wonderful time. The cabin was very rustic and super cute. The view was awesome, too. The beds were comfy and we felt at home right away. The only thing that would have made our stay better would have been if the grass/weeds would have been mowed prior to our stay. We really wanted to enjoy the outside options more, but the high grass really impeded that. Otherwise, we had a very lovely stay!

So peaceful and cozy!

This peaceful, cozy cabin was a perfect getaway for us and our two older boys! We very much enjoyed the peace of the outdoors...the sound of the stream running right off the back of the property, watching the deer and listening to the birds! The perfect location of the cabin (away from the busy) still allowed us to travel to a couple of trailheads we had on our agenda to hike while visiting Colorado...One just down the road from the cabin and another in Silverton. (We made it to Ice Lake!) We also enjoyed visiting downtown Durango as well as spending much needed quiet time at at the cabin! Our 23 year old son even said “I could live in this cabin!” Thank you so much to the owners for always being so responsive and for sharing their home with our family! We will definitely recommend it to others!

Great for families!

A lot of thought has gone into this property. There are so many things to do, any age will love it here! They even had bikes the right size for each of us. The only two things that weren’t up to expectation. I emailed the owner prior to going with a quick question but never got a response. The other was the trash has to be taken with you. The stores you can take your trash to closed by 7. We left early in the morning so ended up driving a trash bag 15 hours home with us.

Tranquility

You can’t ask for a more tranquil setting! Morning coffee on the back patio with the stream gurgling and beautiful wildlife to enjoy (squirrels, birds, even a pair of fawns!). The downstairs living space was very nice and the kitchen was tiny but it worked! Everything was clean, and there were plenty of towels and linens. The pictures didn’t quite show how tiny the upstairs bedrooms were. You can stand up straight at certain places up there but have to stay hunched to move around. The stairs were tricky, too, as they are tight and quite steep and narrow. Fortunately, we put our young adult kids up there and they did fine. Very cute place. Can’t beat the proximity to the lake! Beautiful area.
