About this property

Unique hand-carved cave house with an amazing view of Lookout Mountain.

This hand-carved, artful cottage has a charming interior and large windows framing scenic views of Lookout Mountain. Inside, you'll find wood ceilings, a huge stone center wall, a full kitchen, and a spa-inspired bathroom with a stone sink and a large tile and stone shower. A queen size bed in the bedroom and a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room provide ample sleeping space for up to four guests. Outside there is a hot tub, fire pit and covered outdoor seating where you can hang out and enjoy the scenery.
You will have the best of both worlds here too! At the cottage, you'll be nestled in a quiet, country setting yet still have easy access to all that this mecca for outdoor enthusiasts offers. Mountain biking, caving, and rock climbing are within 5 miles. Road bike races regularly pass by on the way up Lookout Mountain. Hang gliding at Lookout Mountain Flight Park is just two blocks away and hiking at Cloudland Canyon State Park is within a few miles.
For guests wanting to include a city experience during their stay, the cottage is just a 17-mile drive to downtown Chattanooga with its many attractions, restaurants, civil war sites, shopping and more.
A note about hot tubs. We have three homes for short term rental. Each has it's own hot tub. We maintain them at least every other day and always between guests. This maintenance includes cleaning filters and adjusting chemical balance and chlorine levels. They are drained and refilled often. Sometimes they may not be hot yet when you get there. (A real problem of you're only there for one night) We will always choose "cold but clean" over "hot and green" for our hot tubs. Occasionally, something might go wrong with them that requires parts to be ordered. While we always want our hot tubs clean, fresh and operating properly, we do not give refunds if they are not hot when you arrive or if something has happened that requires repair parts and you can't get the bubbles to blow just like you want them.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Everything was very clean, and the view was beautiful. While this place is secluded and quiet, it's not as private as the listing seems. there are 3 additional units within a stone's throw of the the cabin, two of which are in direct view of the hot tub. Also, the grill didn't work while we were there, which was disappointing since we brought steaks to grill. Other than that, it's a really unique place and we enjoyed the experience.

Beautiful place to stay, very unique. Owners were very nice and seemed like hard working people; at the time they were building a new adobe inspired house and invited us to come look. Kitchen had full range of utensils as well as some pots and pans etc. The shower was very nice, matched the aesthetic and had good water pressure. The bed was firm. The viewing from up on the balcony roof (which has a rock couch and chair) was phenomenal. Only tested out the hot tub once, but worked well and was relaxing.

Nice Secluded Getaway

We had a really nice time here. The house was pretty secluded and included a nice hot tub as well as rooftop lounge area. It is off the beaten path a bit but that’s what we wanted. It’s about 25 minutes to Chattanooga by either backroads or the interstate, which makes for easy outings for meals when needed. There are a couple of other units near by so I would consider that; however, at the time we visited there were no other guests around. Host provided great communication and an easy check in and checkout process. We will definitely check out this place again next time we visit the area. Thanks for a great week!

Beautiful views & quaint house!

My husband and I stayed the weekend before Christmas for a quick getaway. The house is so cute & unique! No TV We loved the record player/radio hooked to Alexa so we could listen to music and enjoy dinner together. The roof is awesome and is a must see for the views. We loved the hot tub and the most comfortable bed ever. The host, Rick, was so helpful & kind. We will definitely be back!

Bedrock is a unique property with a lovely mountain side setting. It offers a very quiet and relaxing place for that little getaway. The cottage could use some updating in my opinion, and the dishes replaced because some have large chips out of them. Hot tub is a nice feature but could be more private since there are 2 other cottages at the location. The best feature is the roof top “lounge” where you can sit and enjoy the views and watch the hang gliders come down from the mountain. Overall we had a lovely stay.

Unique property / great location

Property was just as pictured - like spending a few days with Barney & Betty Rubble. Very comfortable with everything you need for a short get-away. Location is great - remote, but just a short drive to Trenton for necessities or Chattanooga for dining / entertainment. We particularly enjoyed the cozy hot tub for 2 and lounging on the roof. The view is fantastic and you get the occasional view of the hang gliders. Rick (owner) stopped by our first night and chatted a bit. Very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again.

Cute & Secluded

Overall: My husband and I went with my girlfriend and her guy. The entire vibes was super relaxed and refreshing. I loved the bedrock vibe and record player. The seclusion of the house made it perfect! I would go back so long as I got dibs on the bed ! Because I think good reviews include pros and cons here’s mine : What we loved: 1)What a great secluded getaway.. location was great! 2)It was a nice surprise for a overnight quiet stay. 3)The host was great 4)The house was clean and spacious. 5)The rooftop and hot tub were amazing! 6) The whole vibe just relaxes you. Changes and/or Suggestions: 1)The listing did not specify that there was no closed bedrooms, so maybe update that in the listing details. 2)The pullout bed wasn’t the best because the mattress was so thin that the bar was completely prominent and protruded through the mattress. Very uncomfortable. 3) The Wi-Fi password wasn’t posted or given prior to check in. Even though some of us were able to get signal, some did not and it would have been nice to have known it prior to checking in.

I moved to this area from Atlanta in 1995. I had been coming here to play (caving, hang gliding, mountain biking, rock climbing) since the early 80's and couldn't stand the two hour drive from Atlanta every weekend. Shortly after I moved here, I accidently started Liquid Landscapes Aquatic Design and began building waterfalls and ponds for a living. I also started playing guitar and later, mandolin and get to play with some fine musicians in the area. Bring your instruments or ask for loaners whiles you're here...

I bought this property because of the amazing view. Its beautiful and I still appreciate it EVERY day.

What makes this property unique

This is our first of two hand-carved, ruins style cottages. The other one, (The Cavern on The Green, vrbo#1298361) is next door. These cabins are in a private section of a 12 acre property. Both cabins are arranged to have outdoor private areas out of view. The land is at the foot of lookout Mountain and is a great venue for outdoor gatherings. We have a choice of bonfire spots and plenty of room. You'll need to contact us in advance for info on hosting a function here.
