About the host
Hosted by Lynne Newman
We’re a family originally from Ontario who moved to Nelson, BC, five years ago seeking a quieter, healthy lifestyle after my husband’s cancer journey. Our two teenage daughters play competitive soccer and volleyball, and our friendly 4-year-old Bernedoodle, Nova, keep life lively! We love skiing in winter, mountain biking in summer, cozy fires, camping, boating, and grilling on the porch. I enjoy reading, and Mark is always up for an adventure on his bike. We’re excited to share our home and beautiful community with you!
Why they chose this property
We chose this location for its peaceful, flat streets—a rarity in Nelson’s hilly landscape—that make walking and biking easy and enjoyable. The home’s proximity to Lakeside Park and the beach means you can enjoy beautiful lake views and outdoor fun just minutes from your door. A grocery store and Dairy Queen are only a short stroll away, perfect for quick errands or a sweet treat. We fell in love not only with the stunning views but also with the character of the home itself, built in 1917, which adds a unique charm to this friendly, welcoming neighborhood.
What makes this property unique
What makes our home truly special is its rich history and unique character. Situated on a spacious double lot, the property is shaded by two majestic willow trees that create a serene, private atmosphere. Inside, you’ll notice the original wide staircase with a one-of-a-kind banister crafted over 100 years ago by a former mill worker—a beautiful piece of local history that still anchors the home’s character today.
While the neighborhood has a mix of homes—including an apartment building nearby—we love how this historic house stands out with its timeless charm. Recent updates, like fresh exterior paint, new upstairs windows, and a modern bathroom with a luxurious soaker tub, blend old-world craftsmanship with modern comfort to create a warm and inviting space.
