Properties of this style are a rare find in York. Tucked away at the foot of the city walls is 6 Monkbar Court. Although a terrace property, it certainly has the feel of a cosy, country cottage. On entering you are greeted by the the open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. The lounge has the added benefit of a wood burner which again is a real rarity for a property so centrally located.

The kitchen is complimented by a cosy dining space to seat 2 located at the side of the kitchen. At the rear there is a small courtyard area with an outdoor seat for 2. The outdoor area literally backs right onto the base of the city walls.

Upstairs you will find the bedroom with double bed and also the house bathroom complete with a bath with overhead shower.

A Quaint, Charming Idyll

A perfectly located, extremely homey and comfortable pied a terre in the heart of a lovely old and very friendly town.We enjoyed our stay in York very much and do not hesitate to recommend 6 Monkbar Court. as a delightful holiday retreat. Located beneath an extraordinarily walkable Medieval wall there is also every possible convenience mere steps away in this charming English town whose streets are full of life (not cars!).-- John and Sunny from Toronto

Pleasant stay in great central location

Great location right under the city walls. There was some noise during the day from people walking on the walls and from neighbouring properties, but it was very quiet at night. Comfortable bed, good kitchen appliances. Some of the furnishings were a bit old but perfectly functional

Lovely!

Such a characterful little cottage and a wonderful location, walkable to everywhere in the city centre and only five minutes to the Minster. It was great to be able to shop and cook for myself (Tesco Express only a few minutes' walk away) so I didn't have to spend a lot on eating out, and I had somewhere to come back to and relax late afternoon after a full day of sightseeing. I often don't sleep very well when away from home but the bed was SO comfortable - I even tried to find a label on the mattress so I could buy the same kind! I also really appreciated that the duvet wasn't too thick as I prefer a thinner one and often get too hot at night. The shower was also excellent - really good water pressure and easy to control the temperature. The kitchen is fully equipped and bedding, towels, washing up liquid and laundry tabs also provided. My only minor note is that the toilet roll holder could do with fixing because it falls off the wall every time it's used, but it didn't spoil the holiday! It might also be an idea to label the fridge switch - it is weirdly positioned half way up the wall and next to the light-switch so one night I accidentally turned it off and found the fridge full of water the next morning because all the ice in the freezer had melted. But I loved my week staying at Monkbar Court and would highly recommend it.

Great Accomodation & Location for York

This house has all the necessary amenities you need for a stay in York for two. The rooms are well appointed with good heating and hot water. The shower is good and has plenty of hot water to it. The best part of this house is its location with close proximity to the Minster and Shambles areas. It is a relativley short 20 minute walk to the rail station and backs on to the famous York City wall. Highly recommended venue and Stay York were good hosts.

Excellent location and a trip down memory lane.

Lovely old property, needs TLC. Reviews for last 2 years say the same. Wouldn't cost much to replace carpet , fix up mould issues and curtains / furnishings etc. We are at complaining at all as we loved our stay, just think the updates would receive excellent reviews then could charge more. Cleaners maybe need more time to do a thorough job. We would stay again , absolutely.

Cozy cottage with a great location.

This little cottage is steps away from everything in York and was a very handy place to live during our visit. We could make our own breakfasts and other meals in the kitchen and I actually enjoyed the sound of the tourists talking in many different languages and accents as they walked on the city wall behind us. This did not affect our privacy at all. Sometimes we popped out into the little garden out back to say "hello." It was quiet and peaceful at night and we slept well. The bathroom is up on the first floor (or second floor as we would say) beside the bedroom. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed.

Dirty and Disappointing

“The condition of the cottage is extremely disappointing, I wouldn’t book again even though the position was very good. The kitchen is under equipped, no microwave or dishwasher, the kitchen utensils and equipment all needed washing prior to use, the oven was filthy, also two gas rings didn’t work. The lounge area carpet had vomit stains, there was a pouf strategically placed over the largest! Stays York did offer to get the carpet cleaned on the Monday, we arrived 4pm Friday, however we were informed the carpet would be wet for 24 hours and we had to be there to allow access, not something you want to supervise on holiday! With Covid this should have been done prior to re-letting. The television leads had to been jiggled each time it was used as otherwise there was no connection. Under the stairs storage cupboard was very untidy and smelly, damp mop and the ironing board was badly stained which rendered it unusable, this cupboard also contained broken patio furniture, so no outside dining facilities, the yard itself was disgusting, rat droppings, etc. (next door had rat bait stations and traps) The bathroom was the nicest room but had previous occupants hair bobbles left complete with hair and the towel rail was broken. All windows felt unsafe to open and close. Personal post was also delivered to the address. It was not possible to walk round the bed, only 6” gap at the bottom, We wrote “please clean me” in the dust on the dressings table top! Bottom drawer of the chest of drawers was full of junk. The bed was badly made, mattress protector didn’t fit the mattress and the banister wasn’t secure. One saving grace was that there were plenty of cleaning products, it was a shame the cleaner hadn’t used them! Or been there? The neighbour told us she hadn’t heard the cleaner for at least two weeks, which didn’t surprise us. Having stayed in York twice previously at two lovely properties with other providers this was a huge let down.
