WANNA GET AWAY? Welcome to Teaches Retreat! Accessible by 4 x 4 only! Our cozy beach cottage set right behind the dunes where the horses roam free. Our 4 bedroom 3 bath home is the perfect getaway for you family vacation. Only a 300 foot walk to the beach! Just 10 miles from the end of the paved road you will find privacy and shade when desired and fun in the sun with our beautiful OBX weather and cooling trade winds. Located in the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge, you won't find the privacy and beauty of the beach like you will here on Carova Beach.

We absolutely LOVED our stay here. The location was perfectly serene which is exactly what we were hoping for. We awoke every morning to horses in the yard and loved the very short walk to the beach. John was wonderful at providing the insights we needed for traversing the beach for the first time.

Perfect

Excellent! The drive down the beach is overwhelming, but all in all.. great..great time. Communication with the owner was excellent, wild horses roamed, and saw Dolphins from the beach.

Comfy getaway

Teach's Retreat is a comfortable and homey beach getaway. We truly enjoyed our time there. The kitchen is well stocked with towels, linens, pots, pans, utensils and plates. There is even a spice rack that has a little bit of everything.. The proximity to the beach is a real bonus that allows the early risers to go for a sunrise stroll and return without much hassle. Hope to return some day!

First Visit of 2025

Our second off season stay at this amazing property. It has everything you need to enjoy your time at the Northern Outer Banks.Many wild horse visits as well as some deer this time!The host are great & the property is everything described and more. We will return again & again hopefully going forward.

Eveything that we wanted and more

The home was very clean and well stocked. We loved the screened porch and proximity to the beach...only steps away. We could hear the waves and see the beautiful dunes and sunrise. My bucket list dream was to see the horses and we had horses in the yard everyday...including a baby. The house itself is very clean, beautifully laid out and had everything we ever needed. John was a great host and responsive to my questions which were few because it was such a simple booking and stay. HIGHLY recommend.

Great location and great proximity to the beach

This is our third year staying at this property and we really enjoyed it. It's so close to the beach which we love. Great house that accommodates our family and another family perfectly.

Beautiful Property

I recently stayed at a stunning property that truly exceeded my expectations. The house was beautifully decorated and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The serene surroundings added to the charm, making it the perfect getaway. This property provided an unforgettable experience. The combination of a beautiful home, excellent amenities, and the wonderful presence of the horses made our stay truly special. Highly recommended! P.s a the horses decided to take a nap to the entrance to the downstairs and in front of the grill. Had to chance them off to cook hamburgers.

This is are 1 and only family trip every year and we wouldn’t stay any where else! The location is perfect! Horses come through the property daily and the house has everything we need! The host is very prompt and helpful! We love it here!

Great Family Getaway

Clean, comfortable accommodations in a beautiful location. We had a great time with our 4 kids relaxing, exploring, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings including horses that visited the yard! The house was well stocked with everything you could need. I was particularly impressed with the kitchen. We cooked most nights and had every tool I could wish for. The hosts were thoughtful and helpful. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Lovely get away

Comfortable and clean home with a well-appointed kitchen, and plenty of towels. But the location was the best amenity. I would stay here again. No questtion. A very short walk to the beach and less than a mile to False Cape State Park. The owner/host proactively contacted me to advise me of high & low tides. It’s much easier to access the house at low tide.

Perfect quaint cabin style that felt like home to me

Excellent location and access to the beach, horses almost every day in the yard. John was wonderful in communicating with me to navigate to his location since my nav system on my iphone would have landed me in the ocean! The dogs LOVED being on the porch looking at the horses, easy on and off to the beach. Just a nice homey feel to this "treasure" cabin. Argh!

Family Vacation

Great location for nice relaxing stay! House was very clean and comfortable. Good outside spots too! We used the screened porch the most to catch the breeze. We saw horses everyday and dolphins in the ocean in the morning and evenings - it was a great treat! One thing I would do for next time would be to make sure to have food for the first night and next morning before arriving to the house after a long day of travel to avoid having to go out on the beach road again the first night we got there. Hope we can visit again soon!

Special place

We loved our stay here. The house is perfect for family with nice bedrooms, baths, well stocked kitchen, and lower level game room. Perfect location to the beach. On our first day, we had to wait to get in because one of the wild horses was having a bite to eat in the yard! We all agreed it was a great traditional beach house and the owners take great care in making it nice and comfortable. The drive in is no joke but great fun once you get used to it.

My wife and I enjoy Carova beach so much we decided to buy a house and share it with other families. I am a Navy Veteran and a retired Virginia Beach teacher. My wife is a retired ER nurse in Virginia Beach. We absolutely love Carova and have been visiting by boat for years. Once we found this house we knew it was a special place and we felt that this is where we wanted to spend our time with family. Since we cant spend every weekend at the beach we decided to share our experience with other families and listed our home on VRBO so hopefully they could make memories like my family has.
