My wife and I stayed at Angi's beach cottage and it was the best vacation we ever had. First time in OBX. Cottage was perfect for us it was simple, secluded and the scenery was breathtaking. Horses visited often day/night. We fell in love with OBX Smooth Sailing exceeded my expectations in everyway.

Great experience

Our trip was great. We loved the 4x4 beach and the wild horses. The house was a great location and the host having a beach parking permit and 5 gallon water jug was so nice. Not sure who cleans the house but it doesn’t get cleaned well. In the kitchen above cabinets and ceilings had loads of dust and cobwebs. All pictures in the house haven’t been dusted in a very long time either. I also have never stayed somewhere where they didn’t provide bed sheets or towels so that was a big inconvenience to bring our own because I wasn’t paying over 100 for sheets and towels. The pine tree hanging over the outside stairs needs trimmed because we kept getting hit in the face going up to the second floor. Over all our stay was great but the property has been neglected some.

North Carolina Outer Banks vacation

We are older so the stairs were a little tough for us. The beds were not comfortable for us either. The view was spectacular. It was really had to find the first time. The manager responded to every request very quickly. There was a bug frozen in the freezer.

Great location and communication with property manager. The house is good size for single family. It has a rustic and beach vibe decor. Although I prefer white simple decor. The furniture is comfortable. The mattress and bed linen could use an update. The place is clean enough but can use a good full house cleaning.

Perfect Beach Cottage

This property was amazing. Secluded enough to feel comfortable and safe but within a few miles of shops and dining. The wild horses come to the house everyday and the ocean view is amazing. Driving on the beach is a unique experience. We will return for sure and Angi was a pleasure to work with. Kathleen C

Peaceful escape

Smooth sailing is a peaceful gem on the 4x4 beach. We love the location. Sitting on the deck or in the sun room is magical. You can only hear the sounds of the waves and the birds. We saw 4 wild horses in yard on our last day!!! Truly a wonderful place to stay. The house is nothing special/fancy, but it has character and is well equipped with everything you may need!

Amazing views

There were 2 of us staying for the week. It's the perfect size for a small group. The views from the top deck are perfect. The horses were around almost daily. I also loved listening to the frogs after the hurricane passed through. The home was well equipped.

Beach house in the dunes

Great location for those who want to be away from the crowds. 4-minute walk to the beach, great views, shaded lower deck with upper deck above, clean, and incredible stars at night. We spent hours on the upper deck watching the stars and satellites. Must have a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there. About 2.5 miles up the beach. We rented a Jeep for this trip. Saw the wild horses in the dunes and in the driveway. Great memories. Angi is a great host and person. Thank you.

Hard to leave!

We had an amazing time here! The kitchen had everything we needed and the views were incredible from the top deck. The horses added to the beauty. We saw them every day and under the deck one night! It was the best time!

Wonderful Family Oasis

This house was everything we expected and needed for a family getaway. The location was perfect; it was within walking distance of the beach but tucked away. We saw the horses every day, and twice, they were cooling off under the house! The kitchen was well appointed and had everything I needed to cook. The grill outside was very clean and easy to use. Having the 5 gallon water tank was a huge bonus for us. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were perfect. I loved the master shower! We loved the views from the deck and appreciated the new Adirondack chairs. My only complaint would be some of the nails on the upper deck need to be replaced or hammered in. My husband ripped his foot open on one of the ones sticking out. We made sure to have shoes on after that. This is a wonderful house and I wouldn't hesitate to book again! We had the best time!

2nd Week of September OBX vacation

Great location on 4wd beach. Perfect for small family or a few friends. Beautiful views of dunes from the top deck. Relatively easy to get to verses other places deeper in the dunes or further up the beach. Angi was very responsive addressing any questions or concerns.

Sand, sun and horses

Really cool place in the 4 wheel drive only section. Located about 3 miles into the dunes and takes about 15 mins to get to “town”. House was perfect for us and could sleep up to 6 comfortably. Ocean views over the dunes Owner checked in with us. Saw horses everyday. Pod of dolphins as well.

Beach house

The house was exactly as listed, Angi is an excellent property manager, and was very helpful for us during our stay. The beach road is an experience in its self. Definitely need to air down your tires and 4x4 is an absolute must! We loved watching the horses graze and move through the dune area and onto the beach. They are truly amazing. Overall everything was great for a very quiet relaxing week.

Family Beach Vacation

Smooth Sailing is the perfect place if you are looking for a low-key spot away from the overly "touristy" areas of OBX. The sand road can be intimidating until you get used to it, but the convenience of loading up your beach gear and driving it up to your spot is worth it! Angi is a wonderful host--very quick to respond to any question and address any issues. We really enjoyed our stay!

Quiet location, Responsive Property Manager

Remote, pretty, sandy, oceanic, and a sweet serviceable place with great windows, decks & porches. The beach is actually a road or should I say the road is a beach? (sporadic traffic as you take in the grand Atlantic and build sand castles.) Angi is the most responsive vacation host I’ve ever rented from. She fixed things immediately, struggled with me over TV & Wifi, and called when she spotted wild horses. A gem. But, it would be wise to read the contract carefully; prepare for upcharges on linens (20 percent more than quoted) and funky at best connectivity. In fact, we're still trying fix our computers, a week later.

Great vacation to OBX

Our first spring break vacation with our family (my spouse, my mom, and two young daughters) to the ocean and all our first time in OBX. Driving on the beach was by far our favorite! The sand dunes and ocean was beautiful!! The size of the house was prefect for us and the host was excellent and answered all our questions and even stopped by with extention cord. Only complaint was the house was quite dusty and the windows could have been cleaned better to be able to see outside better. But host has chairs for family, tons of toys goe the girls and again the price of the house was great also beds were comfortable for all of us. * Nothing Related to the house*We were bummed we didn't see any wild horses as this was one of the main reasons we booked and the weather wasn't the warmest; we're from WI so we were excited for 50s and a snow break, but it wasn't that warm and real windy.

Remote beach paradise

This location is absolutely stunning! Dunes, ocean, wild horses, sunrises and sunsets, 4x4 beach! It is a remote playground. Not to mention all the fun exploring and sites within minutes or just a few hours if you want to get out to explore. The house was great. Perfect for a couple or small family. Everything you’ll need in a kitchen - literally! And those views….🤩 We spent Christmas weekend here and could t have imagined a better experience. Angi was responsive and accommodating and with an impending storm, she even let us check in early so we could access the house with no issues. Everyone has said these things hut I will repeat for prosperity: 4 wheel drive is a must and yes, you will see wild horses at least one day of your stay! We have already recommended the house to anyone who asks based off our incredible photos and we cannot wait to come back for a warm weather visit!

Beach House

Property was well furnished with everything you need and location is great. Only thing I wish we'd known ahead of time is that owner lives next door. Wasn't a problem for us but, always in the back of our mind being watched-might have made a difference in deciding to rent. Other issue is that ad states having wi-fi and never did have access, owner never offered any compensation for it. Was a real problem and would be for most.
