Hummingbird Cottage- charming cottage in quiet cove close to Bridgewater!

This delightful cottage is a must-stay for anybody looking for a get away to Smith Mountain Lake! The Hummingbird Cottage is a two-bedroom, one-bath home with 2 queen beds and a queen-size sleeper sofa. It's the perfect retreat for a couple's getaway or a small family escape!

The Hummingbird Cottage offers an open floor plan with a living room and an updated kitchen. The kitchen has a large refrigerator and stainless steel appliances. The living room has plenty of seating with a large wrap-around couch, and two chairs that face the wood-burning fireplace. The bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower. The living room and bedrooms are all equipped with flat-screen HDTVs and Blue-Ray DVD players. Relax near the wood-burning fireplace and watch one of the many movies, play board games, or get lost in a book. Wireless Internet is provided.

There are many outdoor spaces to enjoy at the cottage. The deck provides a peaceful, wooded setting to enjoy the views while relaxing or cooking on the gas grill. A gravel, switch-back path leads down to the dock. The dock is a great place to swim, fish, float, and enjoy the sunset. Two kayaks are available for our guests during their stay.

The dock is large enough to tie up a boat and jet ski. Electricity is available at the top of the stairs near the dock for recharging boat batteries. Public boat ramps are located at Hale's Ford Marina and Oak Grove- both within 15-20 minutes of the cottage.

The Hummingbird Cottage is conveniently located by water and land to many of Smith Mountain Lake's shopping and attractions, including Bridgewater Plaza, local wineries, Smith Mountain Lake State Park, Food Lion grocery store, and the Diamond Hill General Store. All are within 10 to 20 minutes of the cottage.

Note: A gravel driveway leads down a hill to the cottage. Boat trailers should not go down the driveway- the turn around area near the cottage is not large enough. Boat and jet ski trailers can be parked at the top of the driveway in the trailer parking area. Please notify owner if you plan to bring a boat/trailer.

Very peaceful location, lake view. Only 2 other houses close by so no traffic at all. House is very clean and comfortable. Very nice deck. Host was very pleasant and responded promptly the one time I had a quick question. Fully equipped kitchen. Games and books for use. Close to grocery and nice restaurants.

First time staying here and we were very pleased! The house was very clean and comfortable, including the beds. Communication was great and very detailed. Loved that! The location was great, close to the Bridgewater Plaza and Food Lion! We also enjoyed bird watching and seeing deer. We loved having the private dock and kayaks! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

The stay was perfect. We spent the majority of our time on the boat. It was so convenient to tie it up at the dock and swim in the private cove. The property was so secluded and quiet. A deer almost walked right up to us while we were on the dock! We had 2 dogs that had a blast, too. The cottage was immaculately clean and had EVERYTHING we needed (and then some). Life jackets, fishing poles, flashlight...the list goes on. Literally just need your food and clothes. Not to sound cheesey, but we truly felt like family. Little things like the air condition was set to 67⁰ with the fan running when we arrived, enough towels for the whole neighborhood, and rolls and rolls of TP that didn't feel like sand paper, tells me that the host is very generous and actually cares. 100% would stay again and recommend to anyone.

Check in process was good other than I was told my door code was the last 5 numbers of my phone number and 2 hours before check in, it was changed. I did receive a message from the host however I was driving and didn't notice it until I couldn't get in. Host was very responsive when I text her and I was quickly able to get in the cottage. Kitchen was really good, well supplied, lots of ice in the freezer. If I would mention anything it was the lighting in the kitchen was poor. We eat late and cooking was a bit challenging if you were reading a recipe. I was using my cell phone light. It would be helpful to add more lighting, either under counters or brighter bulb above the sink. Other than than, stay was great and cottage was lovely!

The cottage was cute and quaint. It was exactly as described. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need. All towels, linens and paper products were included. Definitely recommend.

Perfect Smith Mountain Lake Getaway!

This is our fourth year in a row staying at Hummingbird Cottage and we are already looking forward to coming back next year! The cottage is a great size for my husband and me, and we appreciate the private dock with kayaks, fire pit and wonderful location.

Cozy, clean and comfortable!

This was the perfect getaway for a couple of days!. Clean, orderly with all the amenities we wanted. Communication with Kali was fast, helpful and proactive. We'll definitely be doing this again!

Our days at the Hummingbird

I don't wish to sound all gushing and so forth because that always sounds fake, but we could not have asked for a nicer getaway that was the perfect size for two adults and our little pup.The house was immaculate, the furnishings are excellent... I just don't know how to put it other than it was just a really nice place to be. The owners are wonderful, we had to move our stay due to the weather, and they were more than accommodating. I will definitely try and book this house again, but from the looks of the bookings, many others know of this wonderful little place. If you get the chance, do try to find a couple of days to make yourself at home there.

Great Getaway

Great little clean cottage in a quiet cove away from a lot of others. Our dog enjoyed seeing the neighborhood deer, cranes and anything else that moved on the water. Such a relaxing stay and can't wait to make a return trip. I also want to point out that the host had EXCELLENT communication throughout our stay that was greatly appreciated.

Fall Get a Way

Hummingbird Cottage is a beautiful cottage steps away from the lake. The cottage is furnished very nice and has everything needed for a great stay. The location is quiet and peaceful but very convenient to dining and shopping.The host contacted us shortly after arrival to see if everything was as we expected. I would highly recommend this to family and friends for a great place to stay at the lake and I look forward to returning in the spring.

Hello! It's nice to cross paths with you! Here's a little about us...
My husband and I live in Stafford, Virginia. We have three sons- two in college and one in high school. I am a teacher at my youngest son's high school. My husband retired from a twenty+ year career in the Marine Corps and is now working as a project manager in Manassas, VA. My husband and I have been looking to purchase a lake cottage/cabin for a few years. Two years ago we rented a condominium at Smith Mountain Lake and fell in love with the area. In April 2021 we found exactly what we were looking for- a little cottage on the lake! We are both working full-time and are not able to visit the lake as frequently as we'd like to. Since it's available much of the year, we thought we'd share it with others who love the lake just as much as we do! We hope you enjoy your stay!

My favorite things about the cottage:
-Having morning coffee on the back deck
-Relaxing on the dock in the afternoons watching all the water fun
-Getting exercise by taking walks down to the point
-Grabbing lunch at the Diamond Hill Country Store (roast beef sandwiches are my favorite)
-Fishing off the end of the dock
-Kayaking around the corner to Jake's Place
-Grilling on the back deck
-Eating at Napoli Cowboy (it's a 20-25 min. car or boat ride, but it's worth it)
