Pua Hale is a perfect place to slow down, breathe, and get a small glimpse into life on the island and its gentle rhythm. I was drawn to this home because of the light in the photos — something about it felt peaceful, and it turned out to be true. The neighborhood was quiet, the sun was warm and bright, and the layout of the property felt open while still offering a strong sense of privacy. I felt relaxed and able to fully unwind.The location within walking distance to the beach was ideal for our plans — bodyboarding, surfing, and long walks day and night. We even saw monk seals and turtles resting on the sand, which was unforgettable. The beach towels and beach chairs provided by the host were very helpful.The house has a subtle Japanese touch, with shoji-style details and an east-facing opening in the surrounding wall shaped almost like a torii gate, perfectly framing the sunrise. Watching the sun come up from the small private garden became the highlight of my stay. Listening to birds while sipping coffee in the soft morning light reminded me of the kind of life I dream about.A sweet surprise was the house gecko. He appeared on the first night and then stayed near the bedroom, chirping softly each morning as if to say “time to wake up.” Learning later that “yamori” means “house protector” in Japanese made the memory even more special.The garden also had a beautiful rainbow eucalyptus tree and blooming plumeria that greeted us each day. We met the host only at the
