Vintage Mermaid - Neptune's Grotto Old Florida Adventure Retreats

Relax, Recharge, Explore from one of our four mermaid chambers. Each an efficiency hotel room at Neptunes Grotto waterfront Old Florida Adventure Retreat. Nestled against a pristine spring and natural area, explore the lesser known intimate paddle up Salt creek to Salt Spring or paddle the beautiful Weeki Wachee River or take the paddling trail to Red Fish Bayou. Fish or simply take in the peaceful view of the spring out back. Kayaks included with your stay. On site boat rental available too!
The space
The Vintage Mermaid features a retro and vintage mermaid theme with queen bed, dinette table, a mini fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee pot. Laundry is available on site. The room is one of a few efficiency rooms in a vintage 1966 Old Florida boarding house originally designed as a fish camp, back in the day! It has been lovingly remodeled yet still retains the vintage character!
Other things to note
Neptunes Grotto consists of five separate units. The property is spacious in a natural setting. Guests are free to explore the waterfront areas. On site small boat rental is available too.

So good, we locked our keys in the car and hosts were VERY understanding and let us hang around for a little while while we waited for the help to come :(( overall all super nice, great location and very clean and convenient for whoever’s want to stay!! We will be back

Just a Special Place!

Our little getaway was relaxing and worth the money. We plan to go back and Kayak. Restaurants are close and there is so much to do around the area. Just a fun stay!!!

It was extra hot in Florida on our visit and this little place was cozy cold and cute. And all the neighbors surrounding were very nice.

Vintage Mermaid was adorable

My husband and I came for my birthday from Colorado and left the kids at home! It is a small place, but it was perfect as we only needed to sleep and shower and then we were off on adventures. Clean and cozy! I would definitely stay here again!

Great place to stay a while

My wife and I had a great stay. We just wish it could have been for a longer time. We stayed, just passing through, and wish we could have stayed a couple of days to maybe rent a boat, see the sights, fishing and so forth. Hope to come back in the future and spend more time. Thanks for the great service!

Historically Quaint

Unfortunately it was only a one night stay for us but after staying we will absolutely plan a longer stay in the future. The room was super clean and we absolutely loved that the owner's supplied a historical overview binder of the property. They had a little beach area with a grill, kayaks and having access to the Weeki Wachee River gave you the option of being active or being completely still and just taking in all the natural beauty around you.HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

We needed to change rooms and hosts were very helpful . All the rooms are so cleverly decorated , lovely area. We had pouring rain but still glad we got to stay and hope to return to this fun place with great hospitality. And we are a family with 2to 71 yr old!

Hidden Gem

Very nice property off the beaten road. Love that it’s not in the middle of the busy part of the city but still so close to everything. The pictures of the property make it look so big but it’s not it took a day or two to get used to the size of the condo. The shower is not for short people so if you’re short be warned. Other than the small things it was over all a nice place to stay.

Clean comfy hotel type room. Relaxing beach area

Clean, comfy and made very good use of the space they have. Has lots of amenities but not an oven if you were planning on cooking your own meals. It is smaller than I realized the person who quoted it as hotel room was pretty spot on. It’s an old fisherman’s camp but has many amenities. One thing I would caution is the shower is VERY small. I’m 5’4” 120# and it was a tight fit. If you like kayaking, this is a great spot and gets you quickly to weeki wachi river and many other nice places. It’s very close to restaurants and although it’s close to the road there is not much traffic and it was quite at night to sleep. The host did a great job of putting together a book of local place to eat and things to do

Not as expected

The stay was on a marina basically and construction occurred entire stay that we were not informed about until after rental. Outdoor area not as pictured. Very disappointing but was cute hotel room…with fewer amenities sorry to say. A few more paper towels(had 1/3 roll) and toilet paper would have been nice!

It was PERFECT for MOTHER'S DAY!

It is the PERFECT place for a little getaway! Very cozy and quaint. Not a big room... but it was just my mom and I - and we just wanted a place to chill... sit out by the river... go to Bayport for some AWESOME OYSTERS... and not hear a bunch of kids running up and down the hall ways! It is off a main Road... but we did NOT HEAR one bit of traffic! Mom and I shared the queen size bed and it was just fine. The bed slept like a dream! The Mini-split AC system kept the room ice cold! I didn't know we would not have a stove... but it was not a problem,...we adjusted and still enjoyed a nice meal. The view from the back window is beautiful OLD STYLE FLORIDA! We took off our shoes and dug our toes in the little sandy beach,..in the colorful beach chairs available along side the river. We are local Floridians.... and just doing a STAY-CATION. It is perfect for 2 people that just want to "get away" from it all -- but still be close to restuarants,... kayaking... cocktails,..and awesome FLORIDA landscape. Super clean and comfortable ------ nothing fancy... but I promise you will ENJOY!

Great character… super clean

I’m staying all week. After seeing how quaint the place is, I extended my stay. I feel safe and comfortable. The parking for guests is reserved so they make sure you have a spot if it’s a busy weekend. I’ll be here all week. It feels so peaceful and the beach provides the solitude I love during the week. The neighbors are nice. Gave me tips on kayaking. 😊 I’m working from the room during the day and the internet is much faster than my internet at home. Comfortable for working. The mattress is comfortable. I’ve slept so well!! The room is so clean. It’s an older building so I imagine it makes it more challenging to keep it so clean. The AC worked perfectly, is very adjustable. The appliances are so cute, just what I needed!!! The kayaking is fun!! I’m a beginner and didn’t go too far. I would think a fisherman or serious kayaker would be in heaven. You could kayak to Weeki Wachee or Bayport. The floor has a tilt… which adds to the charm. They’ve leveled out the bed with blocks so it doesn’t effect your sleep. But I love walking on the tilted part because it feels like you’re on a boat… sort of. All in all, this is an adorable place to stay with nice people around you and so affordable.

I loved it!!

Initially I was only going to stay a couple of nights. But then decided to extend my stay for total of 6 nights. The room was cute and comfortable. It’s an older property which makes it so charming. And very clean. Very clean. I saw one of the reviews said the a/c blew on them at night but just have to adjust the direction of the fan. It’s a silent AC and works very well. Good internet that allowed me to have this working vacation with no glitches. The tilted floor is part of the charm. I loved it. And the bed is level, in case you read the review about the bed. They’ve leveled it with blocks. Very comfortable bed and linens. Free use of the laundry room. The property is so close to Mud Spring and on the Mud River. Manatees and fish! Mangrove, shade, beach! Peace and quiet. I paddled in the kayak provided with the room every day. Super easy … just put the kayak in and paddle away. No hassle at all. The staff told me about Salt Creek and I had such a good time paddling up the creek to the spring and swimming and enjoying the peaceful natural space. Staff are so nice. They kept me stocked up on paper towels and toilet paper. I love solitude and had that on both the property and the river. The neighbors are nice too. Thank you to the owners and staff for making a beautiful and charming place affordable!

Great little find!

We loved staying at Neptune's Grotto. Our room was completely updated, very clean and the decor was charming. The bed was Very Comfortable, and the TV and appliances worked with no issues. It was a charming piece of old Florida. Wish we could have spent more time on the property and by the water.

Peaceful and natural beauty of Florida

Beautiful mermaid themed room and close proximity to shops, restaurants in area, UPPER DECK had delicious food as did Frank and Mikes pizza, went kayaking around 8 am and it was so nice, we will be back!!! We felt right at home!

Mermaid Sanctuary

This is the cutest place for mermaid enthusiasts! It was comfortable and cleanly. Literally was the perfect place to be while attending Mermaid Camp at Weeki Wachi Springs. Close to lots of restaurants and had kayaks on the property to use. I would definitely book again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
