Welcome to The Scotland Shore House! Conveniently located next to the Scotland Ferry dock, we are just a 20 minute scenic ferry ride from historic Jamestown. Enjoy the beautiful views of the James River and the local history while relaxing with the whole family.

Seated high on the hill, The Scotland Shore house gives you amazing views and the ability to be away from all the hustle & bustle of the city but close enough to enjoy day trips to the historical triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown, & Yorktown. Enjoy all the serenity this home has to offer.

After a day of exploring, come back to an open kitchen-living area where everyone can be together. Snuggle up in the main level Twin Room or grab a story to read before bed in the main level Bunk Room. Nightlights will guide your way to the full bathroom next door.

Upstairs, close the shutters in one of the large en suites, sink into the king hybrid mattress, and rest your mind & body. Not a late sleeper? Grab some coffee or tea outside your suite and take a seat for a breathtaking sunrise. Enjoy books, puzzles, and games all while you soak up the 180˚ views of the James.

Ready for more adventure? Take a kayak down to the private community access and paddle around in the same waters early settlers took to Jamestown. Come back, light up the grill, and dine al fresco. After dinner you can set up for a few games of cornhole and then close the night with a fire, enjoying the sounds of the gentle river waves collapsing on the shore below.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
This property while next to the James River, is not directly on it. Guests can utilize a community river access with a 2 minute walk.

Please also note that the rooms with twin beds are located on the main level, while the two king rooms are located on the 2nd level.

This home runs on septic. Please take care not to flush anything that's not toilet paper.

In an effort to keep the property more secure, we have installed a Ring Doorbell Camera on the front exterior of the house.

Beautiful views of the James River and comfortable accommodations.

I enjoyed my stay. The was very clean and stocked with all the essentials. Very comfortable mattresses. I hope to stay again next year.

Excellent Vacation

We loved the time at the house. The home was excellently appointed and well suited for families with kids. Being right across the river via the ferry from Williamsburg made everything accessible with minimal hassle.

What a GREAT place!

This place is awesome. Was perfect for 7 adults. Came to go to Williamsburg but found out Surry had its own history. Will definitely be back.

Relaxing Getaway

Loved the location right on the James River across from historic Jamestown. We enjoyed watching the sunrises on the river and kayaking the nearby wetlands. Our kids also greatly enjoyed riding the ferry to/from the house and the well-stocked kids room with toys and books. So many thoughtful features throughout the house. Lovely stay!

Very nice house. Perfect for our buddy golf trip! Quiet, peaceful, roomy, convenient! Ferry to Williamsburg is literally a 2 min drive. Would easily stay there again!

This is a wonderful rental

This house was even better than the listing suggested. We've stayed in a lot of short term rentals and I don't know if any were as clean and as well equipped as this one. The owners were very helpful and thorough in their communication on staying at the property. Highly recommend!

Beautiful spot, Lovely home!

We were very pleased with all aspects of our stay. The house was immaculate, the location was lovely, and the hosts were fantastic communicators. We most especially appreciated the lovely coffee nook upstairs, with a panoramic view of the river. Also, the house is very kid-friendly. The closet full of games was a big hit! Highly recommend.

Surry Vacation

We were so pleased with our stay in Surry. This home is so adorable and it was so peaceful. We would definitely come back. They hosts were so organized and thoughtful. The home had everything we could use.

Great time in Surry!

We really enjoyed our short stay in Surry. It was so nice to be on the water, and still be close to Colonial Williamsburg, Great Wolf, and Busch Gardens. The kids really enjoyed the ferry ride, and never waited more than 10 minutes. The house was very nice, and enjoyed some home cooked meals, the fire pit, and outdoor games.

Long weekend relaxation

My husband, son, and I had the most amazing stay at this property. The house is beautiful with the most spectacular views of the river. My toddler son loved taking the ferry each day to visit Williamsburg, Busch gardens, and Jamestown. Will definitely plan to come back soon!

It was perfect for our family of 10. The communication was outstanding. The views are amazing. the house is well kept and comfortable. They even had a Christmas tree up.

Perfect location!

We were visiting America’s Historic Triangle with our children and grandmother. We wanted a location that was convenient but gave us plenty of space to relax. This house was perfect! We loved the two master suites and the games in the house. The ferry ride was fun and always on time! Dan and Sam were excellent and responsive hosts. Would recommend this place!

Relaxing reunion of friends from college

The house was a perfect getaway for me and my three college friends—beautiful view, comfortable, well equipped, with kind and responsive owners. We especially loved the upstairs sitting area and the screened porch. We enjoyed the casual seafood restaurant just down the road and walking at a nearby state park. The ferry ride to Jamestown and Williamsburg was lovely and dependable. We highly recommend this relaxing home!

Great House

The house was wonderful. Came equipped with everything needed for a great family vacation. The river with the sunrises and sunsets were picturesque. Only downside was that the ferry, though fun, did require some pre planning and extra time to travel a short distance. The hosts were extremely friendly and quick to answer any questions and provided a lot of useful information about the area.

Home away from home <3

Stayed here for 5 weeks with 2 other co-workers and I cannot express how much we enjoyed it. The house was extremely clean, beautifully decorated and well cared for. The hosts, Dan and Sam were so easy to work with before, during, and after our stay. The view was absolutely stunning, and it was relaxing to sit on the porch or do puzzles in the upstairs sitting room, overlooking the river. I really hope to stay here again and would recommend The Scotland Shore House to anyone staying in Surry! Thank you again, Dan and Sam!

Top Notch

Great location on the waterfront. Super clean. Very well decorated and organized. Many thoughtful features. Kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, cutlery (knives needed sharpening), cutting boards. We were able to make some great meals. We have stayed at many VRBO alrbnb locations, and this was really among the best.

Tranquil retreat

We were visiting Virginia for amusement park hoping but I needed to find a spot away from the chaos and this was the exact place I needed, the whole environment fosters peace and calm! Great decor and honestly there is nothing you need to worry about if you forgot something cause the home is stocked as if it’s your own, they have everything you need and more. And the hosts were so helpful with information and instructions. I wish I planned more downtime to just enjoy the place more! Hope to go back someday. Thank you!

Snyder Family Vacation

Dan and Sam truly went above and beyond to create a beautiful and welcoming home. My family and I had my son's second birthday here and it was absolutely perfect! Everything was baby/toddler proofed and even had a kids room with toys and books galore! Every room was perfect and extremely comfortable! The views were priceless and the experience was just incredible. Dan and Sam were extremely communicative and made sure we had everything we needed. Fortunely we didn't have to ask for anything as they had everything already in the home. This home may be the best place we've ever stayed as a family. From the convenience of the fully stocked kitchen and rooms to the beautiful views and intriguing history! We pray we have another reason to come back to visit Dan and Sam.

Colonial Williamsburg Getaway

My husband, 16-year old son, and parents loved this property! We traveled to the area to visit Colonial Williamsburg. Over the years, we’ve rented many VRBO houses and this was one of our favorites. The owners, Dan and Sam, were delightful to communicate with, and provided helpful info before and during our travels. The cleanliness, views of the James River, and comfortable beds made our trip especially enjoyable. We loved the 60-second access to the ferry and used it multiple times during our stay (Once on board, the ride takes about 15 minutes.). The neighborhood was very quiet; so quiet we could hear the water lapping the shore while relaxing on the screen porch. The only thing our family missed was quick access to grocery stores and nearby dining options. Just come prepared with your personal food items, or plan to shop across the river. If you’re looking a quiet spot with convenient access to the Scotland-Jamestown ferry, this is a wonderful option!

The Perfect Place

The Hosts (Dan & Sam) made this property and experience extremely special. Although this property is way off the beaten path, it had many positives. Peaceful and serene even with the ferry traffic. The house was appointed with such detail (notes and helpful tips about where to eat, how to get around, the ferry schedule printed out, etc.) and was the perfect setup for our 2 families of 4. Prior to arriving, The hosts gave very helpful instructions and advice about what to do for groceries before we got close, and the heads up about how to get there with specific details and directions was super helpful. When we still couldn’t find it (due to a power outage upon our arrival) Dan and Sam were immediately available via phone to guide us in and let us know where lanterns and candles were located. The guest book was filled with wonderful comments and we concurred with it all! I would highly recommend this property and the hosts!

Wonderful for Families, Beautiful View

We had such a wonderful time. This home was perfect for us. The hosts made us feel so welcome with all the details and just knowing it was made for families. We have stayed at several homes for vacation over the last several years so we can all be together as a big family and this one was by far the most inviting and family-friendly. Even the welcome notebook gave the perfect information on the home and area....and made you feel at ease to enjoy your stay. That was so welcome. Loved the play room! Loved the little extras like a stroller and a highchair available. Thank you for offering such a beautiful home. It was decorated so pleasantly. We found beautiful spots for picture taking. The view was breathtaking. We loved the water being so close. Our family used the ferry every day and loved that convenience...the children loved the ferry rides! We found the home convenient for the wedding we attended in Virginia Beach and then easy to visit historic areas like Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. The hosts were very kind. We hope to visit again!

We are Dan & Sam Miller, and we live in Virginia where we raise our two boys. As a family we enjoy travel to the mountains and beaches. We love history and have been fortunate to have traveled to many different countries and parts of the U.S.

Surry, although remote and quiet, provides a front row seat to the views early settlers had as they sailed up the river into what became Jamestown. You will find eagles and osprey soaring through the trees, ships and ferries coming and going, and - if you're an early riser, breathtaking sunrises. Nearby you'll find the historical Smith's Fort Plantation and the public marina is just a short 5 minute drive from the house.
