Modern Two-Bedrooms Flat in Shaw - The Heart of DC

Walk everywhere from this spacious first-floor (English basement) apartment with a separate entrance. It is located in Shaw, historic neighborhood, which is central from the nightlife and restaurants of Shaw, Bloomingdale, 14th Street, and Chinatown and just a few blocks from the Convention Center. Metro is about a 10-minute walk. This 2 bedroom/1 bathroom unit is great for individuals, couples, business travelers, and families. It includes access to a full kitchen as well as a washer and dryer.

This lovely apartment can comfortably sleep six people. There are queen beds in each of the two bedrooms and a pullout couch in the living room for additional sleeping arrangement. All beds have European-style sheets (fitted sheet on the bottom and a duvet cover on the top). The bedrooms are far apart so each set of occupants have plenty of privacy. There is a plethora of street parking around the apartment.

Okay

Overall it was okay.Its not a separate apartment! Based on the photos and the description, I thought this was an apartment flat and not a mother-in-law apartment. The photos don’t show it, but there is a set of stairs in the living room that lead up to the family‘s house. I wouldn’t say I got any vibes that it was unsafe, but it would’ve been nice to know ahead of time. Cleanliness could have been better. When we came in, there was about a dozen dead bugs all over including a dead spider on the pillow in the front room. Additionally, I found open and used Gatorade bottles in the nightstand in the back room and the shower had dirt in it. They do provide a vacuum and I recommend using it because the rugs are dusty. Unfortunately I had a cat with me and she was already scared so we just dusted are feet off before bed. The place is surprisingly noisy so if you are sensitive to noises or you have to be up early for a meeting or exam, I wouldn’t recommend the place.For starters the AC unit in the front room makes a very high-pitched squeal, I believe it’s because the unit is not working right as we set it low and it was still hot compared to the back room. There is like a generator or something in the back room that makes a lot of noise.Additionally, because it’s an old house, and the door to the stairs isn’t soundproof you do hear every footstep and activities and conversations of what I think was in their kitchen based on the sounds of dishes.

Lovely Spot for a DC trip

Great centralized location and well mantainee property, perfect for a few friends or 2 couples. The check in and communication were outstanding and the owners were super responsive to our needs.

Nice location and great host

Overall the stay was acceptable. The host was very responsive, communicative, and helpful. The AC in the front bedroom did not function the best and the tv volume was not adjustable. This biggest issue I had though was the ceiling heights. There are many areas where the ceiling height is less than 6ft. I am 6’3” and have several bumps, cuts, and bruises on my head. If you’re over 6ft tall, look elsewhere. Otherwise good stay!

Nice neighborhood

Clean and private apartment. The beds were very soft. There was a great expresso machine and lots of towels. Nice kitchen and very comfortable space. Steps going down to the apartment were steep but there were only 2 or 3.

Acceeptable, but far from great

Couch had significant bodily fluid stains. Owner made no attempt to rectify so I could only cover up with a throw. Mattresses were lumpy. No top sheets and duvet covers were not clean. Only access was from a back alley, which had rats visible day and night.night. Kitchen and bathroom appeared clean. clean.

Very cute apartment in a great location.

I was concerned staying downtown DC for our trip, but this apartment was very comfortable and fully furnished with everything we needed. We were able to walk almost anywhere. Parking was super convenient and never had an issue finding a spot. Owner was very responsive to us as well. Highly recommend!

Great Value in Good Location

Strengths:•Easy and free street parking•Convenient to Capital One Arena, Convention Center, and Shaw neighborhood•Nicely equipped apartment with comfortable beds•Lots of seatingWeaknesses:•Basement apartment with low ceilings – not for tall people – cramped bathroom, and poor sound isolation from floor above– difficult locks and doorknobs– entry is from rat-infested alleyOverall, we enjoyed our stay. It was a very good base for traveling to the Mall, Penn Triangle, Columbia Heights, Shaw, etc.

DC Trip

The location is fabulous. It is short walk to a metro station. One block down as you walk, you can see the Capital! We were easily able to have meals and groceries delivered. We walked around to the front and met the delivery drivers. The entrance to the basement apartment is around in the back through an alley. The alley is well lit and it felt secure. There were young children in the home above that you could hear but it was never at a time when we were trying to rest. The apartment was well equipped and clean. My niece might be back in DC over the summer. We would definitely consider staying at this location again. We were 5 adults and there was plenty of space. The ceiling is low. That is what you get with a basement apartment. Everyone in our group was under 6 foot so this was not an issue for us. The apartment was nice to return to after several long days of site seeing. You get a good feel for what it would be like to live in the area. We recommend this location.

The entrance had a few surprise steps but overall a great location. We found close free parking. It’s a basement apartment that had ample paper products and linens. Also we had good water pressure.

Nice apartment

The apartment is nice and clean. You can hear the family living upstairs but that did not bother us. It's easy to catch public transportation from the surrounding area and there are many restaurants nearby. Unfortunately the check-in requires data or cell coverage in the USA, and we were only informed about that on the day we wanted to check in. That is not suitable for anyone who does not have an American cell/data contract such as many internationals.

So nice to have a haven to stay in DC while visiting our daughter. Wuiet neighborhood, with easy parking. Apartment was comfortable and very clean. Hosts were very easy to communicate with, and helpful . We will definitely use again.

Just what we needed!

This place had everything we needed for our week long stay in DC! Close to many bus stops to get us to where we needed to be and it felt secure. The only thing that I could nitpick on would be how thin the walls were - we could hear the family upstairs having conversations, the dog running around, and their young child crying. Other then that, everything was great and our host was kind and accommodating!

Bite in the night!

We arrived to the front door of this property and were then directed to a narrow dark entrance at the rear, this included a few downward steps which was a little tricky with our luggage. the apartment is compact and comfortable, well presented and had everything required for a pleasant stay. unfortunately we had some unwanted visitors in our bed, BEDBUGS, confirmed by doctor. Host appeared concerned and "immediately sent an inspector in, no visible evidence was found and a preventative treatment was done" maybe the next guests will be a little more lucky than me who had to endure the nasty reaction taken to the bites and a £285 medical bill!

Family visit to DC

Good location in quiet neighborhood. Very secure alley entry. LOVED the convenience of the washer/dryer as our stay was for several nights. Only complaint was the upstairs child running around in the mornings and evenings which was occasionally quite loud. But aside from that it was an excellent stay!

Great Value

Our stay was nice, the area was walkable for dinners, and a short drive to the national mall area. Plenty of parking. It was fairly clean, and had almost everything you would need. A sponge in the kitchen and a coffee maker would be great adds. Being a basement apartment, there is some noise from upstairs, we had one morning where it started at 3 and was enough to wake me and the kids (husband slept fine 😁).

DC Girls Trip

I went on a girls weekend trip with some friends to explore DC. This place was a perfect spot for us to stay for the price. Not as close as if you stayed at a hotel downtown but it was easy to grab an Uber or walk to the metro. The place was very clean and had everything we needed! The host was lovely and always responsive.
