Festival Get Together

Check-in was seamless. The staff was great - friendly, efficient, and very helpful with restaurant recommendations which was really important as the property is "off the beaten track" (not unexpected as it was known in advance). Highly recommend for a quiet and outdoorsy get-a-way.

The Best Vacation House Ever!

We stay in a VRBO house each year on vacation, and this one far surpassed all others. We went on a three-night trip with three generations of our family, and there was something for everyone! The screened in porch and movie theater were both favorites, and the picturesque views were breathtaking.

Absolutely Wonderful

It truly was "Livin' The Dream". Our family had a wonderful stay. We could not have asked for anything more. The home was spotless, the amenities were plentiful and the view was breathtaking. Our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer.

Peaceful mountain retreat

My family loved this stay! The view was amazing and the house was very cozy. We loved the theater room and games downstairs. They had a great collection of DVDs and books - not just your typical books for decoration. The whole experience felt welcoming and like someone’s home rather than just a rental. Definitely plan on returning.

Perfectly superb stay with an amazing view!

Our visit at Living the Dream was flawless. Pictures cannot do justice to the amazing views and gorgeous home. The setup of the house allows everyone their own space and wonderful locations to gather as a family. I wouldn’t change a thing!!!!

The place was beautiful. The hottub view was perfect, and the theater room was such a treat. It snowed a foot overnight, and the roads were still scraped clear the next morning. Loved it. Thanks!

So quiet!! From day I’ve we were planning our next visit back to Livin’ The Dream. So please, don’t stay here and keep it available for us :-)

Beautiful house

We loved everything about this house. Very clean, well-equipped and spacious. We really enjoyed the theater and game room amenities. As for the resort itself, we had a couple of disappointments. The check in process was fine, but felt a little unsafe about the keys being left outside unattended at the main resort check-in location. Recommend punch-code locks. We were a little disappointed that the fishing pond and resort restaurant were not available as listed. The drive to town is about an hour, so this should be taken into account especially with children who may get bored staying at the house. Again, the house was fantastic and loved that it is very private. The views are amazing!!

Reviewer Comments: Four former college suitemates - we've been getting together for over 20 years, and we've stayed in this house for at least 6-7 years - I can't remember how long but quite a while. We've been staying at Leatherwood for 20 of those years. Leatherwood has been a great choice for us. We've changed houses a couple of times over the years but we love Livin' the Dream. We plan to come back every year as long as we can. The house is very well equipped, clean and comfortable. I highly recommend it. Special shout out to Sue from Leatherwood who always goes the second mile...

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I’ve been coming to this home for an annual girls weekend for about 10 years. Every year, something was broken or missing. I found it frustrating and thought we should try someplace else. The new owners of this home have changed my opinion! We had all the comforts of home and everything was in working order. It was WONDERFUL. They thought of everything, write down two extra throw blankets for the couches in front of the fireplace. And on a sidenote... Thanks for removing the dead animals from the walls. I’m looking forward to coming back next year.

The only glitch we had was that the hot tub was not working for the whole 5 days we were there. We were only told a part was being shipped to repair it. Having a hot tub is something we were looking forward to and is a specific amenity we look for each time we rent from Leatherwood. Other than that, the front gate repair caused some issues as far as having to take the extreme long route to get out of Leatherwood which the front gate repair prevented the ability to not have as many opportunities to ride the horses, another specific reason why we choose Leatherwood for our vacation. So just a couple of things we specifically look forward to were not available this time. But we still love Leatherwood and the people there. Loved the live entertainment the Friday we were there. Thank you to the owners and to Leatherwood!!!

We left early :(

The good: This home is absolutely beautiful. The hot tub is wonderful, and the game rooms and theatre room downstairs are lots of fun. Tons of DVDs and games! The house is amply supplied with cookware, dishes, extra blankets, and all the necessities. The bad: Our check-in package (including our keys) was not at the front office when we arrived after a 3 hour drive. It was after hours, so no one was in the office. To her full credit, Sue from the office came down within 10 minutes of my phone call and got my packet out of the office. The downstairs HVAC may need some attention as the entire floor stayed very cold unless we ran the fireplace the entire day. The fireplace directions will not actually turn on the fireplace. (Luckily, we have a similar setup at our home and were able to get it going.) The coffeemaker in the cabin didn't work. I didn't call the office about this one because it seemed like a silly thing to make more work for them when I could just pour hot water over the coffee grounds and make a passable pot of coffee. The fan in the downstairs half bath made a near-constant high pitched chirping and tapping sound, which frequently woke me up during the night. The ugly: This place has a SERIOUS bug problem. Some of the other reviews mention bugs, but you need to understand the full magnitude of this problem. The windowsills throughout the house were full of bugs - dead and alive. The big picture windows in the living room - full of dead bugs. I spent about an hour each day taking LIVE stinkbugs and wasps (which I am allergic to) out of my children's bedrooms. After the first night of what was supposed to be a 4-night stay, my kids refused to sleep in their bedrooms because they were so scared of the bugs. We are not talking one or two here, folks. We're talking dozens. The other reviews that mention bugs all have the same cookie-cutter response about "nature - loved and unloved - gets in... call us and we'll come vacuum them up again." Well, you'd have to give them a bedroom to stay in if you called them every time you saw a bug. This is clearly a known problem, and something needs to be done to fix it, either by the property owners or the management company. My husband and kids finally got so fed up that we left a day early, even though this is the first getaway we've had since quarantine started. To the credit of the office staff, they did refund the day. I cannot reccommend this property and would not stay here again.

Beautiful property- one big problem

The cabin and property were beautiful. Spectacular views. However, even though there was a disclosure about stinkbugs- we would have never imagine just how bad they would be. Over our 4 day stay, well over 50 stinkbugs were killed and many many more were already dead all over the place. To the point of them landing on us while awake- and asleep! I understand that bugs get inside to matter what. But I do believe that the sheer number of stink bugs we had to deal with was abnormal!

Another wonderful experience at Leatherwood

Great stay, but lots of bugs

However upon arrival there were hundred of dead bugs in the windows that I thought would’ve been cleaned out prior to our arrival. There were also live wasps inside that we spent the weekend chasing. The kitchen is not well stocked for more than a family of 4-6. The views are great and the movie room is wonderful!
