Amazing Beach House

We truly enjoyed our stay here. House was very charming and clean. You would not know it was a pet property, zero odor. Easy walk to the beach and a few stores, coffee shops, and restaurants. Great location. We enjoyed the puzzles and games as well! Highly recommend!

Great place for family!

The house is great for a family vacation and great for bringing your dog. It’s close to the beach and the beach is easy to access with kids. The kitchen is well stocked and the living space was comfortable to hang out in. My family and I would stay here again!

Great spot in Ocean Hill

I had not been back to OBX since 2013 and never stayed this far north - but I think it is the best spot with easy walking to shops and restaurants and quick walk to beach. We had an amazing week of weather which made the trip super memorable. I would come back here in a heartbeat.

Second Time Staying at Barefoot Babies

We love the location of this property. Very short walk to the beach. Great layout - love the decks and screened porch area. Well-stocked kitchen. Fenced yard - great for our German Shepherd. We really love this house and would stay again though it could use some updating - especially sanding and staining of decks.

Cleanliness

The location and accessibility the the beach was perfectly, 5 minute walk. The house is nice however very dated. My family was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the house, it definitely could have been better. The space was large enough for our family overall a nice stay. Also might be better if information shared on the site about the beach equipment that was available.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great location for us and plenty of space. We found trash under beds, and on carport at check in that should have been taken care of by cleaning crew. Definitely needs a deep clean of carpets, appliances and furniture in the off season. We enjoyed our stay and found the home to be comfortable.

After reading reviews from 2023 where the owner mentioned planned updates we were disappointed to see that the home was still in need of some updating. While understanding that the home is pet friendly, we were not expecting the amount of pet hair on furniture and bedding. And the title of the property mentions views of ocean/lighthouse neither of which could be seen from the property.

Great Location/ Quaint Beach House

Beach Babies is in a great location with easy access to the beach and also retail centers. The property itself needs a little TLC but has quaint beach house charm. The kitchen was fantastic and had anything we could have needed. There were lots of VHS tapes and a VCR/DVD player for watching movies if we fancied. We did enjoy an Indiana Jones movie one evening. Upon arrival we were very upset as the property was very dirty inside. Seemed the cleaning crew definitely didn’t do their job. We did address the issue with the rental company and they were very helpful in addressing our needs. All in all we had a great family vacation with beautiful weather.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house is reasonably priced and well maintained. Everything worked as advertised. We found the house to be very clean upon arrival, no issues there. The kitchen is very well equipped. The house has a homey atmosphere, does not feel sterile or hotel like. The enclosed outside shower was great, as was the included beach cart with large inflated tires. Went thru the sand very easily. The only slight negative is the ancient television in the living room. Would have preferred a flat screen smart TV. But that said, it did work fine. We would definetely recommend this house to others.

I loved the layout of the house, as we could let our two dogs out the door and straight into the fenced in area. Kitchen is nice with a new fridge. Nice clean appliances. Both grills in good shape and we used both. Nice distance to the ocean. Laundry room clean with clean washer and dryer. Overall, satisfied with the house and would stay again as it was perfect for our family of 3 and 2 dogs. Updates that need done sooner than later....decking is in poor shape, one of the rungs was blowing in the breeze. I would not let my smaller dog on the top deck as some of the rungs are too far apart. The fencing for the fenced area needs redone. The picture of the yard on the website made it look nice, it is not. It’s all sand and the hammock looks like it might fall if someone lays in it. Even though it’s outdated and things need done, it seems as though the owners take pride in keeping it decent for a lower cost house. Thank you. We enjoyed our stay. Fenced yard and clean house was our top priority and it was met.

Nice but needing love

Reviewer Comments: We loved the location of the house but it was badly in need of some updates. The decks and deck furniture were in very poor condition. The kitchen was great but the bathrooms showed a lot of wear and tear. Our biggest issue was the rodent infestation. Our car roof carrier was in the laundry room and upon packing to leave, we found a large hole that had obviously been chewed with insulation stuffed into it. Also, during our stay, we saw two rats outside on the property.

Great Location

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My husband, dog, and I stayed here the first week in June. What we liked best was the location. It's in walking distance to the beach (about a tenth of a mile), about a mile south of the beach where the wild horses are and where you can drive your 4WD vehicle, and in walking distance to a few shops and a beer garden. The house is fine for the price - it's a typical beach house and included everything you need. The only issues we had with our stay, and they were quite challenging, is that 1) We had absolutely no phone reception. That was difficult because my husband had to work a few days and he had to leave the house to go find a place where he could work. Our service provider is Verizon and so maybe the other providers are better. 2) The deck was in such bad shape we were really concerned about getting splinters and especially our dog. There were also some nails sticking up in places - so be careful if you're planning to walk barefoot.

long time renter but property is well past prime

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Have stayed at OH1213 at least 6-7 times. Last year we stayed at another Carolina Shores property in Whalehead. We remember the last update to Barefoot Babies years ago and now it needs a complete gut job. I understand that this property id now considered a "value" property without all the bells and whistles, but issues like the rust on the refrigerator door are really inexcusable. Carpets were badly frayed and incredibly stained. Cleanup crew did an almost non-existent job prior to our arrival which makes the extra 15 minutes we were required to wait (3:45 pm) infuriating. Also, kitchen fuses tripped twice during our stay. As usual, we left the property cleaner when we left than it had been upon our arrival.Finally, I didn't notice until mid-week that we were being charged for the Insurance plan @ $191. I'm surer if you check our account records you will see that we have never opted into to the Insurance in all the times we have rented through Carolina Shores. Just one more incredible disappointment.Time to try another rental agency.

Robert, We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. As for the updates the owner had an accident this year so the updates she planned were not completed. As for the insurance, I pulled your reservation and you choose the refundable deposit, so there was no insurance added to the reservation. Once again we are sorry you that you did not enjoy your stay.

Reviewer Comments: Our rental house was comfortable and clean in kitchen and bathrooms- the family room carpet had stains on it and burn marks and the screened in porch was dirty. It was in need of upgrades on the kitchen, bathroom floors, and family room carpet. The bathrooms needed updates on sinks and tubs, also. The house was less than 10 minutes from the beach and 10-15 minute walk to the lighthouse area. The neighborhood was quiet. Having both an uncovered deck with a small screened in porch and a covered deck was nice. So you had choice of sun or no sun. Great view of milky way at night! Having a master bedroom on top floor with other bedrooms and a bath on second level provided privacy for the other couple and our adult son. You could see a slight view of the ocean and one morning we saw a ship out there. There were a few things not working-one side of the 4 slice toaster and some of the lights. We had an issue with the WiFi not working and feel the problem could have been resolved by the realty or their maintenance by just asking us to check a view was not resolved till midweek and because of no internet, one of my guests had to seek a hot spot at the local library to attend a webinar for work. The internet service technician finally came out and located a plug that was out of the socket in one of the bedrooms. Perhaps the realty could post or their maintenance department call back and go through a simple checklist for renters to check. My husband had rebooted the router several times and we were also told initially that the problem was the company and should be resolved by the next day which of course it was not. Other than that-we enjoyed the beach, nature trails, wild pony tour, and visiting the Wright Brothers monument and museum in Kitty Hawk. Local restaurants had great food to dine in or take out. The Beer Garden was very enjoyable.

Renter Beware

Although a very nice location, the home needs several updates. The deck needs to be redone, nails were sticking out making it dangerous for the children in our party, and the decks seemed rotted and dangerous in general prompting us to not spend much time outside. The roof leaked after a storm right into the bedroom, the microwave blipped out and we had to check the fuse box, and then finally a chair broke...too many issues, and to top it all off, the house was not the cleanest and did not even come with basics such as linens which had to be rented to an additional fee. Comfortable Beach Home

This is not a fancy place and the photos are several years old, but it's still well put together with no bugs indoors and no smells. The location is perfect for a quiet stay very close to the beach. Downstairs outdoor shower and mudroom were perfect for keeping beach gear and shoes away from the rest of the house. Kitchen was also perfect, nice and spacious and well stocked. Bedrooms are all very equal. We actually preferred the downstairs queen to the upstairs, more windows.

Thank you for taking the time to review the home. The home has just been newly painted inside and a new roof. I agree with you on the kitchen, it is spacious and well stocked even down to little doggie baggies for your 4 legged family members. We hope to see you again in 2023.
