Adventure awaits! Western NC and North GA abound with opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Set your sights on long-range views with visits to Bell Mountain in Hiawassee (20-minute drive) and Brasstown Bald (highest point in GA, 25-minute drive). Spend the day on Lake Chatuge with a boat or personal watercraft (rentals available from local marinas). Want to immerse yourself in nature in the Nantahala National Forest? Bring your mountain bikes and ride the first-class trails at Jackrabbit Mountain (also great for hiking and dog-friendly) 15 minutes from the property. The Chatuge Dam Trail (17 minutes away) offers a paved, dog-friendly path for those who want an easy stroll with sweeping views of the lake and mountains. Fires Creek Recreation Area (30-minute drive) is another Western NC local favorite for hiking with picturesque views, swimming, and trout fishing. On the GA side, take a 30-minute drive to a waterfall hike via the High Shoals Falls Trail or make the 35-minute drive to Alpine Helen, GA for a taste of Bavaria in the Blue Ridge Mountains as well as tubing and zip lining. Hungry and thirsty after a day of exploration? Visit the outstanding local restaurants, wineries, and breweries in and around downtown Hayesville and Hiawassee for not-to-be-missed tastes of local flavor.
