It is unfortunate the guest had a bad experience. We would never try to mislead guests by the listing, and believe our photos are accurate. The guest arrived one day late the property due to changes in travel plans. I kindly informed the guest that because the house was cleaned the day prior for scheduled checkin, and because the house is literally on the beach with open air and extremely salty ocean winds… although the indoor and outdoor spaces were cleaned, there would be leaves that constantly fall in the outdoor spaces and a salty film acquires on all surfaces indoors such as counters, mirrors, windows, etc. This happens within a matter of several hours, as the house is literally on the sand with waves crashing against the break wall of the house. It is part of beach living in the Caribbean, and we feel most guests understand to take this into account. The home is always cleaned thoroughly between bookings. You can see from our other reviews that guests have been very happy with the home:)

The guest’s claims are simply false, and out of ignorance. This can easily be debunked by reading the many recent previous 10/10 reviews from very happy guests. We work hard to provide a clean comfortable space, and are always extremely attentive to guest’s questions or concerns. This guest was unhappy as she was not offered a refund when deciding to not stay in the home after checkin. The entitled guest did not contact me whatsoever with their concerns after checkin, but instead decided to just leave the property without letting me know, and expect a refund later…So made a desperate attempt to sabotage the reputation of the listing weeks later. Had she had credible evidence VRBO would have issued her a refund, and penalized the listing which did not take place. We do our very best to describe the listing, so that before booking guests have a clear understanding of the property… The home has a rustic cottage feel, and decor is a mix of new and antique. And is always clean. The shore line the house sits on is ever changing, depending on the time of year, month, or week. The amount of sand is constantly getting drawn out or replaced with tides and changing weather. The beach is also public, so guests are encouraged to take advantage of the sandiest parts a few steps away. Also, during summer months the Caribbean islands experiences an influx of what is called sargassum… it is dead seaweed that washes ashore. As it decomposes it smells of dead seaweed… this is a natural process of nature and part of beach living in vieques. I want to be clear that this is the smell the guest was referring to, and absolutely not coming from inside the house itself! Because all beaches on vieques are public, there are no private beaches, meaning homeowners do not maintain the beaches themselves. From time to time a water bottle or alike may wash ashore, but by no means is the beach covered in trash. The photo the guest provided is an antique mirror with not mold, but oxidation. There are many antique pieces in the home, and is part of the decor of the space. There was absolutely no “dirt” on the pillows when I myself made the beds before checkin… the photo of the bed the guest provided shows a guest had clearly been in the bed. The outside yard is natural and packed with trees and tropical foliage… this is not a grassy yard, but similar to a wooded area. Nowhere does it block access of entrances or pool area etc of the property. The photo provided of a storage closet is extremely misleading… it is a utility closet under the stairs of the home used to store broken or damaged items for the owner to address during his visits, not for guests use, and has since been cleaned out. The closets in the bedrooms for guests are clean and only store extra folded linens and/or towels. There is also absolutely no broken tile inside the pool. There is not even tile inside the pool except for the thin border along the top perimeter as pictured. It is completely safe. The home is always cleaned in full between all bookings, with thousands of happy guests. The entire interior walls of the home have also been freshly painted last month:)

Just a heads up…. the beach has not lost sand… but the tide is ever changing… sometimes high, and other times low, allowing more or less sand on the beach:)
