Second rime in this amazing house. It was cool to see what changed (updated bathrooms upstairs & massive sectional in the livingroom), and whaat did not (overall atmosphere and charm)There were 11 of us ranging in ages from 3 to 63. This house has so much room that it never felt crowded, yet it's set up so that we could all have meals together. The beach is just a walkway over the dune from the house.

A True Gem

We loved everything about our stay at this cottage and couldn’t have asked for more. It’s obviously one of the first built homes on the island and exudes so much character and a warm feel. For it’s age it’s been immaculately maintained and nicer than a lot of the newer places I’ve stayed. It was perfect for my teenage daughter and her friends. They loved having the spacious downstairs living area to sleep and hangout. We’ll definitely be back and stay here on our next trip down.

However,since this year's weather during the 2nd week of October was mostly cool and windy, it was difficult, at best, to attempt to adjust the HVAC "warm weather" temperature settings. Other than that, the Islandbirds was a perfect home for the 4 of us plus our Golden Retriever.

Spring Break Getaway

My family stayed at island birds last week. Cannon and Gruber who manage the listing, were phenomenal to deal with. When we first arrived at the house there were nails and construction dust left as they were working on replacing windows. We called and they came out immediately to deal with the situation and everything was taken care of. Couldn’t have been happier with how it was handled. The house is a GREAT location! However, the inside of the house needs some serious work. The bathrooms need to be redone and reconfigured, it could be so nice with a little TLC. However, for an old beach cottage it gave us what we needed.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was very clean, but it is really old. Doors don’t close, there us only 1 shower for all the bedrooms. There are 2 showers by the front door for rinsing sand, etc & is usable for older kids/adults. Dining room/family room is super nice with great views of the ocean. Very spacious for multiple families, as there are 3 floors of bedrooms. Overall, a nice house, just prepare for it to be very old & unkept. Also, bring your own coffee/filters/detergent, as this was not stocked. Not a big deal, but i wish i knew.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Over all we enjoyed our stay. The house was Great for our large group. The rental was clean and had all pots and pans that we needed for our meals. The house is slightly dated needs quite a bit of updating. And it would have been useful to have four full baths and all the bathrooms. House only has two full baths and 2 half baths and two shower rooms. This did accommodate all of us we had 13 staying in the house. Just be aware that the apartment downstairs you have to walk through the bedroom from the sleeping room to get to the bathroom. In saying all this I would rent it again. It was a great location and fun was had by all.

Beach trip

Trip was great, the house is beautiful. The second to last day had remnants of a hurricane come through and some of the basement/first floor was flooded, unfortunately. The top two floors were fine but the part of our group that was in the basement decided to leave early and later in the day, we did too. I'd totally stay at the property again, but only use the top two floors. My main complaint is we're 20 days after we checked out of the property, we are still waiting on the return of the security deposit. So if you are strapped for cash and hope to get a large chunk of change back after being back home, you're going to be waiting a bit. They do mention it could take up to 45 days to get the deposit back, and in my experience, that is an extraordinary long time. (This is an indictment on the property management folks, not the homeowner)

Not recommended (especially during winter season)

Reviewer Comments: Pros:Great beachfront location on a quite beachClean roomsPlenty of rooms/space for a party of 12Reasonable rental ratesLots of reminders and clear instructionsPet friendlyCons:Thermostat on the main floor was broken (would not even turn it on) and the floor was quite cold during the entire stayThermostat on the top floor did not work properly either and we could not increase the temperature on that floor. All the rooms on both floors were quite cold during the night. The only floor with the thermostat and heater working properly was the basement.We tried to reach the company that manages the property by phone and also using the app, but no response during the entire stayNot enough blankets were provided though it was quite cold (because the broken heating)The house is very old and quite dated, several bathrooms doors do not close completely. Even when some doors could be closed, most of the bathroom door-locks did not work properly, we had to use chairs to block these doors when using some of the bathroomsWater was dripping from the main-floor living room ceiling (on one of the days, not sure of the source, possibly from one of the upstairs showers)Not all bedrooms have full bathrooms attached, you need to use separate shower rooms near the entrance
