Perfect Cabin for a Weekend Getaway

We booked this cabin for a weekend getaway with friends and everyone absolutely enjoyed their time here. The location was perfect, the cabin was clean and cozy, and communication with the owner was great.

Great getaway spot

Shannon and I had a great stay at the cabin and a fun day on the lake on Saturday. It was just the two of us. Would be a great spot for a family with kids. The kids would love the loft area.

Great space for our getaway

Nice cabin for a fun weekend at the lake. Just the right amount of space for us. Denise was very accommodating and available for questions. We enjoyed our stay.

Quiet Cozy Lake Cabin

Comfortable with a beautiful view. Main floor is suitable for adults. Loft is best for teens or older children. Open concept living and dining works well.

Memorial Day Getaway

The trip was great the only problem was we had a tornado and we lost power. There was nothing in the cabin to use for lights etc.

Fishing trip

Cabin was small but okay for a couple and the loft is good for children an adult could not stand up in the loft and the steps were terrible. Hard to park a boat. Wish it had a washer and dryer. Being on the lake it would have been nice to be able to wwsh ir dry items.

Very nice

Overall, this was a nice place to stay. The lake is very nice and we had access to a beach and a dock. The only thing that we felt was missing was a grill. There was a fire pit outside with a grate held up with bricks, which was what we were told we could use as a bbq grill, but I think we were expecting an actual grill. Still, overall everything was great.

Enjoyable Getaway

Property was as the pictures showed except the dock is not the one in the photos. We ended having a great time and the cabin was small but exactly what we needed since we spent our time on the lake. I recommend to ask details about the where the boat dock is located so you have the info ahead of time. Definitely recommend for a quick quiet getaway, beautiful view of the lake.

weekend stay

property is gorgeous and cabin is beautiful inside. FYI, the two extra beds are in a loft space that requires using a ladder...deck is beautiful right next to the lake. only disappointment was in the beginning because it was tough to get a hold of the owner when we arrived and had to wait over hour to get keys...I'm grateful the weather was nice and we could sit on the deck but waiting for keys for a service that we already paid for was a debbie downer...communication needs to be better with the owner as she does not have a cell phone (land line only) so texting does not go through. Once she arrived with the keys, all was smooth sailing!

Perfect Getaway Cabin near the lake

We had a fabulous time at the cabin and our girls, ages 5 and 10 loved the loft! They felt like they were on a great adventure! We were able to access the lake through a gated private area and spent a lot of time fishing from the shore and dock. The cabin was spotless when we arrived and there was even Charcoal for us to grill out. The only recommendation I would make is for a few more cooking utensils, etc. as we are big cooks, but we had enough of what we needed and made do with no problems. I loved that it was so peaceful and we were made to feel welcome. The girls asked when we could go back!

Great location but needs a deep clean

Pros: location is great with a private beach area for members. There is a dock down the hill for a boat. Cons: The house could use some work. Mold in the shower and the fridge didn’t work. Had to buy a cooler to use. Owner came and said to adjust knobs but it didn’t do anything. This was a hassle since we had a baby whose milk we needed to keep cold. Could use a deep clean since mouse poop in cabinets and dust bunnies everywhere. Toothpaste all over mirror and hair on the sink. Took owner a couple weeks to get back to me when I initially messaged her after booking, so communication not great. Only 4 pillows but 3 beds and you have to crawl to get to the 2 upstairs. I think with more pictures showing a more accurate set up and a deep clean, it could be a nice place to stay.

Pretty good - could be great with a little bit of effort

Cozy clean cabin, nice central location for exploring the Shawnee forest and the surrounding area. We enjoyed time on the deck, grilling over the coals in the fire pit, and waking up to birds chirping. A few additions (less than $100) could make for a better experience vs. the rent charged: a couple larger pans/pots - it was a bit of a challenge to make meals for 3 adults, so I can't imagine how a group of 6 would do breakfast. A cutting board and a full sized knife (although the 2 inch ones were quite sharp!), a set of tumblers/glasses - no need for anything fancy, but would be nice to not drink wine out of coffee mugs :)

Beautiful Location

The stairs to the 2 beds in the loft are very, very steep. At the top of the stairs in the loft, the roof is also very steep. On the right side of the ladder at the top was a height of about 6 inches. On the left side of the ladder at the top was a height of about 30 inches. This meant that at the top of the ladder you had to crawl a few feet on your hands and knees. Even in the center of the loft, my husband could not stand up straight. I would have appreciated knowing this via the listing before booking. The location was great and the view very nice from the deck. Parents will want to be watchful of their children in the loft and on the stairs. The house was very clean when we arrived.

Progress needed

I appreciated the communication with the owner but had wished it was more timely. I appreciated that she gave us her phone number which helped. There were some amenities that we usually experience in other locations that were not present at this property, for example: No soap for the shower, inadequate materials to use the grill, furniture not in ideal shape (kitchen table chairs were wobbly and coming apart), no cookie sheets for baking, pillows in bedroom were not bed pillows but couch pillows with a pillow case, and inadequate knives for slicing. I usually am not critical of locations but this site appeared to have a few more items needed to use that could not be found.

Cabin in April

The cabin was well equipped, but a WiFi would have been appreciated. If I had thought of it earlier, I would have reserved a "hot spot" from my local library for the trip. The owner had lots of cute decorations and supplies that made us feel more at home. The cabin was very close to a boat ramp which we used each day. Although the driveway was a little tight, there was plenty of space for our boat once we learned how to navigate the space. Denise (owner) was very helpful with restaurant suggestions. It was close enough to some major towns (about 20 minutes to Marion) for groceries since the local store and eating places (about 5 miles) close early. A local gas station had ethanol free as for boats, for which we were thankful. Although the fish were not biting, we have a great time. Thanks Densie.

perfect weekend getaway

This cabin was just perfect for my husband and I to enjoy a little RNR for the weekend. beautiful view of the Lake. Cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. Close proximity to Shawnee National Forest and wineries. We will return to Lake of Egypt next year

Great girls weekend!

This is a gem tucked away on Lake of Egypt with beautiful views. The cabin was very clean and well equipped for all of your daily needs. Great location with many hiking trails nearby. We will definitely return in the fall.
