A sweet little cottage, not at all fancy but everything works including the Wi-Fi. No AC (the listing mentions this) but there were 11 room fans. We loved the lake, the loons and eagles & sandhill cranes. The boats were fun. Easy drives to Empire, Beulah, Cedar, and Interlochen. Pretty sunsets!

Terrific cottage on quiet lake - great for families (lake with dock, kayak, canoe, fire pit, hammock, outdoor seating, laundry, well-stocked kitchen, etc) and just 15-20 minutes from everything in the area. No AC but cool at night even on hot days.

No need to go in the boat to fish we caught bigger fish at the dock than in the boat.

A fine winter stayover

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was a perfect location for visiting family in the winter. It looked like it would be excellent in the spring, summer and fall--but the deep snow prevented an exploration of the grounds and the path to the lake.Overall, top notch.

Thank you! We did have a nice snowfall this year, but are ready for our spring and summer guests.

Ethel’s Cottage

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great location and very well equipped. Note, you are in the woods so there may be bugs. There is also some road noise since it is right off of a county highway. Very close to wineries and Sleeping Bear. Would rent again.

Peaceful stay

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved being at this cottage. It was peaceful and the lake was great for kayaking and swimming. We spent a day at sleeping bear dunes and this location was an easy drive for that. There is no air conditioning and we knew that before we went but it happened to be very hot during the week we were there so that was not very comfortable. Would be much more cozy in a cooler season (though I imagine the lake would be colder too). Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

No A/C!! When booking this place it did not say anything about no A/C. Upon check in, the book mentions to not overuse the A/C so at some point there was A/C. We happened to stay during probably one of the hottest weekends which when you’re going to the beach is ideal but not when you’re staying in a cabin with no air flow. We would not have stayed had we known there was no air. The view is beautiful and location is good for the city and dunes. They were very thorough on making sure you received all your information. Made sure to do a check in to make sure you got in okay.

Thank you for your review. We are confused regarding your comment of no A/C. Both, on our website and on the VRBO website, under the heading GENERAL: NO A/C. We are sorry.

It was ok. The cottage is very poorly constructed. We did not like that there were big drops from one room to the next, and a handmade moveable step was placed to step on. This was a bit dangerous for us since we are older & I have had a hip replacement. It was also a struggle for our 8 yr old Labrador. I also wish there was a grab handle in the shower for safety. The kitchen cabinets & counter were horrible; extremely cheap and very old. The grounds were nice, but the tons of steps down to the lake were precarious. This rental is not good for an older couple or anyone with any kind of mobility issue. It was very clean, and the mattress was comfortable. But the step situation was dangerous for anyone! The view of the lake was nice; it’s a pretty little lake.
Moveable step placed at high step up from kitchen into dining area

My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. It was great to be able to just walk down to the dock with my kids and go fishing! Enjoyed grilling and eating at the picnic table. Beautiful, shaded property that was well maintained. The cottage was also very comfortable and clean. Really made some good memories with our time here and I would love to come back and stay in the very same place next time!!
