A few steps away this georges home, (within walking distance) Carmel Valley, the quiet village 11 miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea, boasts 19 wineries and tasting rooms, a healthy mix of iconic Monterey trailblazers (Talbott), new players (Mercy Vineyards) and established wineries looking for foot traffic (Marilyn Remark).
Everything on the lush, overgrown trail is within walking distance, but without the traffic and commercial presence of Carmel. This village is humble, and with vineyards nearby, the windy stretch of Carmel Valley Road that leads to the Cachagua Valley feels more like wine country. We spent a recent Sunday exploring the strip. Here's what stood out.
Georis Winery: The Georis family farms 28 acres of Bordeaux varietals in the upper Carmel Valley. They're known for European-style wines, with lower alcohol and less oak. Walter Georis, who owns Carmel's French-inspired cafe, La Bicyclette, as well as the popular Casanova, recruited winemaker Damien Georis (no relation) from Bordeaux when they realized they grew up in the same village in Belgium.
The sips: Damien's Bordeaux blend, La Chappelle, is exceptional. We also liked the rosé and barrel-fermented sauvignon blanc.scenic sand dunes at Spanish Bay, threading the towering pines of Spyglass Hill, or challenging the cliff-swept shoreline at Pebble Beach, a golf trip to Pebble Beach Resorts is full of lifetime golf memories at your finger tips.
So tee it up like Palmer and Player, Hagen and Hogan, Tiger and The Golden Bear, and play the golf trip of your dreams. Each February, come watch the Pro Am with the highest ranked professional players teamed up with some of the world's most famous actors, comedians and sports legends.
Take a 45 minute drive down one of the world's most spectacular scenic drives that hugs the rugged central coast (17-Mile Drive). Visit the The Lone Cypress, a Monterey cypress tree standing on a granite hillside off the 17-Mile Drive. The tree is a Western icon, and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America. It is located between Cypress Point Golf Course and the Pebble Beach Golf Links. Possibly as old as 250 years, the cypress has been scarred by fire and has been held in place with cables for 65 years. The Monterey cypress grows naturally only in Pebble Beach and Point Lobos.
A drawing of the tree was registered as Pebble Beach Company's trademark in 1919. The company said the trademark protected not only the logo but also the tree itself.
Next, Located at the ocean's edge on historic Cannery Row, home of John Steinbeck , the Monterey Bay Aquarium is your window to marine life. Visit sea otters, penguins, sharks, jellies and thousands of other marine animals and plants. This is the most spectacular salt water aquarium on the planet.

Visit downtown Carmel which is full of amazing boutique shops, art galleries, antique stores and world renown restaurants.
If that is not enough, there are hiking trails galore with magnificent ocean views, bike trails and white sand beaches. There are many great wineries to visit and farmer's markets with the surrounding area best described and named America's Salad Bowl.
See Spain's first headquarters in Alta California, settled before the Declaration of Independence was signed. Want to learn about abalone, salmon and sardine fisheries, or Cannery Row? Love to explore historic buildings in the town where California was born?
