Southern Comfort---A beautiful colonial home sitting on 87 acres with a clear spring fed lake to enjoy. Nestled in the East Texas Piney Woods with all the comforts of home. Relaxing or dining on the screened in back porch, you will enjoy a soft breeze as you watch the longhorn cattle and miniature donkeys ramble the area. Sit on the dock or drop in a hook for fun. As the evening closes, enjoy a complimentary bottle of wine around the fire pit of the dimly lit area at the lake.
We are conveniently located to Canton First Monday Trade Day, Tyler State Park, Ben Wheeler Old Town, Edom Blueberry Farm and Blackeyed Pea Capital of the World, Athens, Texas. We are in the country, but minutes away from Shopping, Golf, Shooting, Water Park, Skiing and Fishing on Lake Palestine or strolling through the woods.

Wonderful Place to Stay

My family and I enjoyed our stay here over Christmas. We loved the screened in porch and played many games on it. The kitchen is large and well stocked. The beds were comfortable and we all slept very well. Definitely recommend staying here.

We were gald to have Laurie and her family for the Christmas Holidays at Southern Comfort. They we very respectful of our property and our house rules. Great Stay

Beautiful property with very clean and nice interior. The hosts were great and even left us a gift! We loved sitting on the screened in porch looking at the pond. And the donkeys were so cute! A great relaxing get away.

We absolutely loved this house. The pictures were spot on. The pond was amazing. We will go back.

Immaculate property. We definitely would recommend it. One of the best places I have ever stayed.

Great pond fishing.

We had a great time. We must have caught over 40 bass during our stay. The biggest bass was caught using a good ole night crawler. We were pretty shocked. The house was beautiful and the animals were sweet. Thank you letting us stay.

Lovely!

This home is absolutely adorable…the pictures don’t do it justice. Great layout…bar/living area close, but separate from kitchen, which was still large, with a breakfast bar so everyone could gather during meal prep. We especially enjoyed the screened porch…morning coffee and watching deer in the evening. Bedrooms upstairs for the late sleepers. Property owner was great communicator and very accommodating. Definitely going on our “will return” list

Texas Southern Comfort

What a beautiful and amazing get away, tucked in the North Central Plains just a hop, skip and jump from Dallas Fort Worth. The property is inviting from the road, well kept green space and lots of room to roam and enjoy the outdoors. The home is a very well kept Colonial Style with plenty of space to hang out. Great amenities, everything you might need is here. The bedrooms are well appointed and the bedding was amazing .. not to firm or soft, just right. The surrounding farm area is home to some Longhorns and Burros .. you can feed them from the yard. Our time was restful and refreshing, and we definitely recommend the property to anyone looking for a serene getaway.

THE ULITMATE BEST!

My husband and I have been using VRBO/Home Away for almost a decade now, and this was HANDS DOWN the best property we have stayed at yet, I've had my eye on this property for a couple of years now, I fell in love with just the pictures alone, not to mention all the amenities that come with the property, but the pictures are nothing compared to actually going there and seeing it for yourself, MUCH BETTER in person. The host of the property, WITHOUT A DOIUBT, is the friendliest, most accommodating host I have yet to encounter, VERY NICE FOLKS!! We will certainly be returning; it was a much needed, relaxing, peaceful get away!! Thank you Mr. Joe!!!

"Southern Comfort" at its finest! Historical charm meets modern amenities

My wife, daughter and I stayed for four months through the holiday season to be close to family and host them at times during the holidays. We couldn't have found a better and more tranquil setting. Joe and his family were there and available anytime we had questions or any needs. They were very warm and sweet and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. Our daughter considers them family now. The property is exquisite with majestic views of the lake, piney woods, donkeys and beautiful longhorns. It was apparent the property was well manicured with attention to detail. The house is beautifully decorated with all the amenities you would expect to host a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. The completely screened back porch is so wonderful anytime of the day to relax, recharge or work remotely in such an amazing setting!

Another Great Spring Break!

Very relaxing and adorable property

I fell in love with this place ! It was perfect for a girls Canton weekend! The donkeys, cows and geese are a definite added big BONUS. We enjoyed feeding them carrots and ginger snaps! They are very spoiled ! He home was comfortable and Joe was a great host. Thanks again!

The Southern Comfort was even better than we had hoped for. The whole property is beautiful. Checking in was a breeze and the house was so very clean. Everyone slept really good in the comfy beds! We enjoyed our time at Southern Comfort so much, that we plan to make it a yearly tradition. Thank you.

Wonderfully Relaxing

This was our second stay at this property. The house and grounds are beautiful. Everything you could possibly need to have a relaxing and wonderful stay is at your fingertips. The host is very accommodating and makes sure you have everything and anything you could possibly need to have a enjoyable experience. We look forward to staying again in the near future!

Another Great Birthday

This was our second time staying at Southern Comfort. It was just as wonderful this time. We went fishing (catch and release). I caught 10 fish in an hour or so. Definitely a place we will come back to again and again.

Quiet country retreat

Everything about this property is 1st class. It is perfectly maintained and appointed. The surrounding land is just amazing with beautiful lawn and trees, tranquil pond, the longhorn cattle and of course the three amigos Pistachio, Peanut and Cashew. Thanks again!

Relaxation at its Best

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. Everything was just as presented. The fishing was great. We enjoyed feeding the animals and just sitting on the screened in back porch and enjoying the beautiful East Texas scenery. The house was beautifully decorated and had everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. We were greatly pleased and plan to return sometime soon.

Truly Southern Comfort

I do not know where to begin. This place is awesome! Looks beautiful when you turn in from the road. The beauty continues throughout the property. The bedrooms are HUGE. I basically camped out on the back screened in porch. The fishing was excellent as I caught 12 largemouth (Thank you Joe for the tips). The longhorn walking by across the lake, I will never forget. My family loved feeding Peanut, Cashew, and Pistachio (as well as a couple small longhorn that followed them). Excellent stay. Just wish we had more time. Thanks for opening your home. We will be back.

Beautiful Beyond Expectation

Before booking I read every review, knowing we wanted a private, adventurous, relaxing getaway for my daughter’s 18th birthday. Southern Comfort, along with Joe’s hospitality, exceeded our expectations. The little things: Happy Birthday banner and goodie bag, bagged ice, games, internet, excellent lighting, outdoor fire pit with hanging lights, huge trees (many options for beautiful photos), tiny bathroom with unique sink upon entrance, perfect location, style of the colonial home, yard game box, robins all around in the morning... The big things: detailed and timely communication, wonderful local recommendations, a small fishing pond with boat and dock, the feeding miniature donkeys!!, hiking in back woods, comfortable beds, completely stocked kitchen (and Joe added a crockpot when asked if there was one), screened back porch, spacious.... We will definitely return if we travel in the area again. Can’t imagine anyone giving it less than 5 stars and for us it was beyond that.

Falling for Southern Comfort

This was our family’s 2nd time staying at Southern Comfort. It was another perfect mini vacation in the country. The home was clean and inviting, complete with Fall decorations. Our family enjoyed hours and hours of fishing, feeding the donkeys and playing games on the back porch. Our favorite activity at the house is s’mores around the fire pit. Thanks to Joe for making our stay fabulous (again). I’m certain we’ll be back for a 3rd time at Southern Comfort.

Labor Day Weekend Getaway

Southern Comfort was the absolute perfect get away for our family!! The house was very clean, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with essentials. Fishing in the pond and feeding the donkeys were just the BEST!! I enjoyed my coffee on the sun porch EVERY morning, while my husband caught bass at sunrise. Our family spent several hours a night at the fire pit. It was the perfect setting for story telling and stargazing. Also, the communication with the owner (Joe) was terrific. He was very helpful and even brought my husband some extra fishing lures when we asked about a bait shop. Our family just hated to leave at the end of our stay, but we’ve already booked another long weekend in October. We are very excited to return. Thanks for everything, Joe.

Little Slice of Heaven

Our family of four needed to isolate in a setting different than our home in the city and this was more than we could have hoped for! We had the sweetest welcome gifts for our babies when we arrived and the house was spacious, immaculate, and immediately felt like home! We watched deer drink from the pond as we ate breakfast on the screened in porch, we fed the donkeys daily, a true highlight for our toddler! Our three year old caught his first fish! And the fire pit with string lights was perfect for s’mores, hotdogs, and laughter! Perfection! We did not want to leave!

Perfect Getaway

Staying at Southern Comfort was an amazing experience from the moment we drove up the the house. The towering columns on the front porch welcome you into a charming home that had everything we could have asked for. Kitchen and bar were fully stocked with glassware and any cookware you'd need to make a delicious meal. The screened back porch was elevated off the ground and was great for relaxing under the breeze of the ceiling fans and watching the deer behind the house. Joe was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to visit again!
