This beautiful 3 bedroom home is perfectly nestled in the soft sands of South Padre island, and located within walking distance to the entertainment district downtown. It has been a favorite spot for many guests who return each year to enjoy a private and relaxing setting.

The master suite faces the beach while the two guest bedrooms are on the opposite side of the house overlooking the neighborhood. Additionally there is a bedroom on the first floor with two twin size beds (this bedroom does not have a bathroom attached, and has a separate entry door from the main quarters).
You are just 300 steps to the warm Gulf of Mexico waters. At times the beach will seem as if it were all yours. This area of the beach tends not to be crowded. Using this South Padre Island Vacation Rental as your base simply enjoy; relaxing on the beach, collecting sea shells, swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, fishing for some of the well-known game fish, biking, kayaking, golfing, boating, bird watching, surfing and more. Great location

House is in great spot on the beach. Yard for the dog was perfect. Checkin was an issue. House is an old 1960s beach house so dont expect luxury. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it met our needs

Property rundown

Buyer beware!! The house does not look as nice as the photos. Stains on the couches, the bedroom headboards, food on the floors when we arrived, the floors are all torn up inside, the microwave had rust. A foul odor was coming from the water heater and when I contacted the property manager about it, he responded promptly that they would send someone out but they never showed up so we had to sleep with our infant in our room. Some glassware had fingerprints, cracks and dust on it. The biggest issue: black mold on the ceiling in one of the bathrooms. The location is right on the beach which was nice.

Quaint, old cabin with amazing view and beach access

My good friend and I had a weekend stay after a busy holiday season. Our criteria were that we had to be somewhere we could see the beach from inside the condo and that it was dog-friendly. While the images on the listing made the condo look to be newly renovated, it's important to know that it is much more of an older cabin on the sea than a midcentury modern renovation. The location is unbeatable, and the views are amazing. Huge windows! However, the place needs lots of love, and we're not sure it will still be standing the next time we visit. I had to contact the property manager for clean sheets -- they had stains where people last slept -- housekeeping brought clean ones that were definitely better. There are stains on things, lots of wear and tear, not super clean overall. I even went to The Dollar Store to get cleaning supplies to kill mold in the master bathroom and wipe everything down. The front door is the type of door you would see at an office complex, so that's weird and none of the windows open. I say all this because I think it could be an AMAZING property with some investment. Repaint the place, buy all new furniture, bedding, and towels, and fix the siding and the deck so you don't worry about falling through. get a new front door, etc. All in all, we had a great time and it is a charming little place -- you just have to be in the right frame of mind when you get there. The online images aren't painting a true picture.

Great Management Company

Management company was professional and helpful. They provided a new grill when we inquired. They answered all questions promptly. The view from home was spectacular and location was great for exploring South Padre Island and spending time on the beach.

Starbase 1st class basecamp

We came down for the 2nd flight test of the SpaceX rocket dubbed Starship. As experienced launch goer-to-ers, we knew that you better plan for at least a week long stay on test flights since problems can arise at any time and delays are possible. The Mermaid served us very well on SPI for a week long stay. The view to the east is spectacular, food in town is great, and the beach is superb.

Beautiful Oceanfront Home !!!

We loved our stay the scenic view of the ocean from master room & porch are amazing our favorite home so far . Frankie was very accommodating and we appreciate his hospitality!!! We would recommend this home to anyone wanting a peaceful & beautiful time with family .

Perfect Location

We had a terrific vacation on S Padre Island. The location was perfect and the home was very nice and clean. Service was great with questions answered very quickly. It’s so nice we can travel with our pet and have a nice home to stay in versus a hotel. Wouldn’t have changed a thing, and hoping to return soon!

Great location, very dated and minimal furnishings

This house was great for the access to the beach. However, there were very few kitchen supplies ( bowls, silverware, coffee mugs, etc.) Additionally there were only a few washcloths, kitchen towels, and other items. 2 wineglasses. They were very sparse in making this house livable. It had a smell which was not pleasant. I think this house needs some tlc before it’s truly worth the money we paid for it.

Last minute switch to Portofino

Original reservation was for a 1960s beach house. Last minute switch was well handled and got us into a 2000 vintage 3 story lux house. 16 ft ceilings and beautiful gulf beach views. Minor repair issues that were quickly handled. Very comfortable house. Excellent views and easy beach access.

Perfect family beach get-away!

Our first time to South Padre and the house was perfectly located and plenty of room. Interior a little dated but we were really there for the beach in any case. I would stay again.

Best location, fantastic house!

You can't beat the location and the walk to the beach is beautiful. Layout of the house is first-rate: rooms/bathrooms are spacious and the kitchen had everything we needed for a family Thanksgiving. It's an older home, well maintained and very comfortable. The deck is amazing. The bonus and laundry rooms downstairs are great extras. Loved it - will go back!

Location nice, property OK

Close to beach. Property needs updating. Pictures in listing are several years ago. Refrigerator is quite old, has rust in the bottom & a very strong odor of fish. The smell finally started to go away on the 4th day (our last), which I would assume means it wasn’t cleaned properly. Expected better for the price.

Location, Location, Location

Our second summer staying at The Mermaid. It's all about the location, we love the view from the deck and direct access to the beach. That being said, the house is in need of some serious general maintenance!! We knew from our stay last year the house was dated but comfortable. This year issues with: given wrong code to check in, patio and downstairs lights not working, dryer sounded like it could take flight, dishwasher unusable and TV in bedroom broke. It made us sad because we loved the house and location. Would stay again if they put a little $$$ and TLC into this quircky beach house.

Our week

We had a wonderful time at the beach. The house was awesome and in a perfect location! We only had one problem with the washing machine and they came out right away and had it all fixed and take. Care of immediately.

Great layout, great views, great deck

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. We really liked how there were huge windows everywhere you look, with great views on the ocean. The large deck was a great congregating space, especially in the evening, where we gazed at the stars for hours. Direct access to the beach was key, as was the outdoor shower as your get back to the deck. Overall a great stay

Great view and location.

This house provided the perfect getaway. Beautiful views from inside the house and from the deck. Very short walk to the beach made it extremely convenient. It was beautifully decorated. Easy checkin and very responsive management company. My only complaint is the shower in the master bath did not get hot. We were able to use it, but it was cool enough to make for a slightly uncomfortable shower. Overall everything was outstanding and I’d definitely go back.

Great stay!!

We had a wonderful time here. The location and space could not have been more perfect for our 4 adults and 1 toddler. The ease of getting to the beach on our private trail and back to the house when needed was amazing. The check in process was smooth and easy and the property management company was available and responsive for all of my questions beforehand. Would absolutely recommend and would happily stay here again!

Great place on the beach

It's a perfect place to stay with your family on the beach. We didn't have any problems with the place. That being said, there are quite a few maintenance issues with the property that we would love to see fixed before we stay again. Like the valve in the master shower. It can only get luke-warm at best, but we made due.
