I've been staying at Beacher's Lodge on and off for more than 20 years. I love the location and the fact that most units are dog friendly. I spent 3 nights there recently in a lovely oceanfront unit. On my first full day, I was in the elevator to take my dog for a walk on the beach. I didn’t have my cell phone. A maintenance man got in the elevator on a lower floor and made the comment that he was surprised to see the elevator working because it wasn’t the week before, and someone got stuck in it. Needless to say, I carried my phone with me constantly after that. On my last night, I went to take my dog out at 10pm for his final potty break and could not get back in my room. The key didn’t work. I didn’t know what to do. I am a female senior citizen and was by myself. I was terrified and distraught. Keep in mind Beacher’s is not staffed 24/7 like a regular hotel. Fortunately, I had my cell phone, but I didn’t know whom to contact. They give you a brochure at check-in with an after-hours emergency phone number, but that was in the room where you would expect it to be. After 10 minutes or so of unsuccessfully trying to calm down and figure out what to do, I decided to call their reservation call center. I was hung up on a number of times or placed on indefinite hold. I was livid and traumatized. Finally, after another 10 or so minutes of calling, I spoke to a person who said she would call someone. However wrong it was, I screamed at her because of how angry I was. Another 10 minutes later, I see a young black man coming toward me. I had no idea who he was. He was the one who let me in. He asked if I wanted the door fixed, and of course, I needed it fixed because I couldn’t get back in again. By now, it’s close to midnight, and finally, the battery in the door got replaced. The next morning as I was checking out, I told the rental employees that I wanted a night’s credit because of my traumatic experience.
