Rustic Cabin in the Woods

I am creating a homestead based on simple but holistic living. The cabin has been built by myself with the help of family and friends over the course of a year and a half. There are a number of trails to walk on the 35 private acreage of rolling hills. This heavily wooded land hosts much wildlife and beautiful scenery including the flat river which is very close by. There is a sport court which provides opportunities to play basketball, volleyball, pickleball, or badminton. A recreational building is currently being constructed. The Fred Meijer trail provides great biking or hiking opportunities. Lazy float tubing or kayaking down the flat river is very popular and only a short walk away. Horse back riding, golf courses, and an amazing local bakery all within a couple miles. A food forest, natural pool/pond, and other projects are on the horizon. The property offers a chance to reconnect with each other, yourself, or the natural world in a simplistic and harmonious way. (there is no wifi) I hope you come experience it!

An amazing place to get away from the rush of life!! And, depending on your cell service provider, off the grid (AT&T does not work there)…..which was a blessing in disguise! The endless outdoor activities coupled with the amazing set up and comfort of the cabin is amazing! The owners vision is awesome as well!

You should plan to make time to just enjoy the place. I had many plans due to a family reunion and hardly got any time here. I regret not just having an afternoon free to hang out.

My family and I stayed here last year and came back for round 2 last week. It is a lovely and SUPER relaxing place to spend a few days.

Nice Spot in the Forest

The house is absolutely beautiful, and the accompanying property is large enough to explore, but small enough to not get lost. We loved our time here.

Great place to stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cabin. The owner was great to work with. It is secluded in the woods, yet only 10 mins to a grocery store. We enjoyed walking the trails around the cabin and of course some basketball. Everything was clean and organized. It is a very relaxing getaway.

The photos don't do justice to the property. The location & cabin were amazing. Mike was a gracious and helpful host. Can't recommend this place enough.

Beautiful Quiet Spot

This is a lovely home for a more simple getaway. You can see the care and pride the owner takes in the cabin. The property itself is still very wild and sandy immediately surrounding the cabin but he has very well established trails for adventuring. There is a screened enclosed porch that is absolutely lovely. The only thing that I would say need improvement is the comfortability of the beds and pillows.

Cabin in the woods but still close to necessities

Our family of four got to experience this cabin last week and enjoyed it thoroughly. The owner hand built the cabin and it really is beautiful. We enjoyed hiking around the property even on a snowy morning. Excited for the add-ons the owner has in store and hope to see how the property develops. The cabin is nice and close to a little town that has food and grocery store but also not super far from Grand Rapids where we got to take the kids to the children’s museum.

Great getaway

This was a very unique place with lots to do! The only issue we had was no working grill, but i still managed to cook outside over the open fire which was fun. I definitely recommend this place. The online pics are a bit outdated for the current state of the outdoor chairs. Glad we brought are own.

Cabin and furniture hand built by owner. Cabin was clean and we loved the rural area. AT&T service to our phones was sketchy. No wifi/internet or satellite TV, though there is a large dvd collection and many books are available. Good idea to bring camp chairs. Enjoyed fire out under the lovely night sky with stars and satellite viewing. Also enjoyed exploring the wooded acreage. Owner may come and work in his shop next door during your stay. Owner very responsive to any concerns.We would return to this cabin.

Solitude in the woods

Very nice property and the perfect place to catch up with old friends. It is very quiet, peaceful and just relaxing. The basketball court was great and the trails out back were fun. The host made it easy for us. No issues at all, just a great weekend overall. -Jeff

Peaceful Sanctuary

This was my second visit to this lovely "cabin in the woods", it's a great retreat from the everyday stressors of life. This is the place for you, if you're looking for a return to the days of old. There's plenty to do including hiking, basketball, badminton, and other outdoor activities. Indoors we had the benefit of no distractions from phone calls or the television while we played card games, listened to music, and did arts & crafts. We are looking forward to our next getaway!

Family get away

We had very enjoyable stay at the cabin in the woods. The work in the house was amazing. A very well put together cabin perfect for what we were looking for. The owner is going through and doing other things with the property to enhance it further so there is some things around the property to reflect that. Overall we had a great stay and the owner went above and beyond to mail us back a bag we forgot! Very greatful

Unplugged Wonder

Had a couple of nights to escape with my daughter and best friend. It was the perfect place to recharge. Great wooded area to explore the footprints of other guests that rome the night. Even though it rained, and the trees were still bare, I felt like I was in another state exploring the great woods. Nature is pure medicine. I highly recommend making this cabin your vacation spot.

A Cabin in the Woods

Excellent place for some peace and quiet! Very easy from start to finish with check-in and check-out. The only con to this stay was privacy. We had no problem with the owner doing his work, but people showed up and first parked next to our car and then went to the building where the owner was working. Other than that, wonderful place! We’ll be back to see the progress of the property someday!

Great Place - Very Secluded

Our group of three were in town to attend the SCCA races at Grattan Raceway. We needed a simple place close to the track. This Cabin in the Woods worked perfectly for our weekend.The cabin is hand built by the owner. The "Welcome Book" shows you pictures of construction. Once inside, you can see the woodworking talent of the owner.Hardwood floors throughout, walls and ceiling with paneled wood. There is a large world map on the wall that looks expertly done in different shades of wood.Home has two full baths. Plenty of hot water and water pressure is good. Ensuite shower was tiled/floored with locally sourced river rocks!Kitchen had everything we needed - dishes, coffee, dishwasher, plenty of space in the fridge.Beds were comfortable. Ample windows throughout to take in the view of trees. It's a great place to spend a quiet evening. We enjoyed ourselves very much. We travel to Grattan a couple times a year, so this cabin will definitely be on our list of places to stay.

West Michigan Visit

The pictures and "description" of this property are dated and the description is not clear on amenities. There is no wifi for phone or tv (owner has corrected the description to indicate absence of wifi). The wood furniture is very uncomfortable and requires more cusioning. The entry porch is covered with dirt from drlveway dirt/wind going thru screen making the hammocks unusable. Weeds surrounding home were 6-7 feet high making the window views all but non-existant. We had no hot water but that was corrected by owner immediately. Owner was responsive to our concerns but we simply had to agree to disagree re: property needs. We abandoned the house on day 2 of our 7 day planned stay. The Owner reimbursed 1 day of our rent as per our agreement. Owner has a good concept but reality has not been achieved as of now.

A detailed message goes out upon reservation about the development of the property. There is a workshop that is currently being worked on. A huge majority of guests appreciate the work that has gone into this self build cabin/property. The food forest, or weeds described by this renter, is one of such projects. 12 fruit trees were planted this year and many wild edibles have been left to grow. More trees will be planted next spring. A natural swim pond will start to be worked on Spring of 2024. Both pictures and description have been updated, but the property is a constantly evolving project. I’m very accessible to answer any questions/show extra pictures, to make sure renters have a great experience. Please don’t hesitate if you have any questions of me if you are wanting to stay:)
