Woolly Bear Log Cabin Mountain Get-Away

Plan your next Pacific Northwest hiking or ski adventure at the Woolly Bear Cabin, nestled into the forested terrain of Mount Rainier just minutes from the mountain town of Packwood, Washington and less then 30 minutes to White Pass Ski Resort!
This cabin is also located 20 minutes from Mt. Rainier National Park (Paradise/Stevens Canyon Entrance). Constructed by hand in the 1970’s with local lumber and beautiful amber logs, this cabin is one-of-a-kind; a real northwest relic. The cabin underwent several updates and renovations to ensure guests are comfortable while enjoying a wonderful get-away. The cabin was even featured on a recent Taco Time Northwest commercial! (See short video clip in photo gallery)
The layout of the cabin is most conducive for a family trip, or no more than 4 adults. There is an open-air loft upstairs with a queen size bed. Downstairs is the common living space, a kitchen set-up, a bedroom with a queen size bed, and the bathroom (with shower).
It is not uncommon to spot deer, elk, and other friendly foe in the yard while enjoying your morning coffee on the deck. The area is wonderful for day hikes, outdoor exploration, finding your own Christmas tree (permit required), mushroom foraging, trips to Mount Rainier National Park, Paradise, and White Pass, or just simply finding a quiet place to unwind. The Woolly Bear cabin is an all-seasons get away with something for everyone to enjoy.
The cabin is equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, washer/dryer, wi-fi, a smart tv, full refrigerator, oven, microwave, coffee maker, and other kitchen gadgets and appliances. There’s even an “old school” VHS-friendly television in the loft and you are welcome to enjoy the owner’s VHS collection while visiting.

**Beginning in 2024, advanced reservations are required to visit the nearby Mt. Rainier National Park. If your trip includes a visit to this beautiful park, please be sure to secure your reservation in advance at the website for Timed Entry Reservations - Mount Rainier National Park (U.S. National Park Service). The closest entrance to the cabin is the "Paradise Corridor-Stevens Canyon Entrance".

Amazing cabin loaded with everything you could need for your trip. We cooked several meals while on our stay, had a small bon fire, and played some horse shoes. The A/C unit in the bedroom was very nice as well.

Great weekend stay

We had a great time at the cabin! Kids books and toys were an added bonus! Would love to come back for another stay. Close to White Pass Ski for an easy drive to and from if you’re looking for a place to stay for a weekend or day or skiing.

Adorable cabin

Property was better than expected. We were in the area for a snowboarding trip. Property is close to town but feels secluded and very private. Would definitely stay there afain!

Loved this log home!

Besides being cute, it was very functional and had everything we needed and just the right size for the 3 of us! It also had ready access to Mt. Rainier. Very enjoyable stay, and may look to do so again someday!

Great place for exploring Mt. Rainier

The Woolly Bear was a great place to stay while visiting Mt. Rainier National Park. A clean, comfortable little cabin with plenty of amenities. Highly recommend.

Cozy cabin

Cozy little cabin near Mt Rainier. We didn’t spend a great deal of time actually at the cabin since we went to the park for 2 full days but it had everything we needed. Great location- has all the basics and lots of information on the park available to read.

Best mountain cabin for Mt Rainier NP!

We were so happy to have stayed at this cabin! It’s a truly beautiful space and you feel like you’re all by yourself in the woods even though you’re part of a little community. We spent our mornings and evenings eating on the deck overlooking the mountains, and loved how at home we felt in what is clearly a very special family cabin. The beds were so comfortable and everything worked perfectly. It was very close to Packwood with several cute restaurants, brewery, and a supermarket. Getting to Mt Rainier NP was also a breeze. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Terrific Cabin near Mount Rainier

We had a wonderful time at the Woolly Bear Log Cabin! The home was lovely inside and out. Clean, cozy, and equipped with all kinds of things to make your stay easy and comfortable. We really loved the outside deck and the view of the mountains. The hosts were very helpful and easy to communicate with. They had left books and maps on Mount Rainier, which really helped with our trip planning. Highly recommend the cabin!

Great Cabin Central to Mount Ranier

I recently stayed at the Wooly Bear Cabin in Packwood, and I must say, it's in a fantastic location with beautiful surroundings. The cabin itself is cozy and well-maintained. However, I have to give honest feedback about the beds, which were not as comfortable as I would have liked. Nonetheless, the overall experience was enjoyable, and I appreciated the charm of the cabin and its convenient location.

Adorable with nice views and great location!

The owners have done a very good job at making this cabin as comfortable as possible! They have thought of many little touches like a large smart tv, corn hole, horseshoes, maps for hiking etc. The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed the small gas grill out on the deck. The only thing we could have used was better lighting in the bathroom and the light over the kitchen table was so dim as to be unusable but those are small things and could be easily remedied. We ate all our meals pretty much at the cabin, we did order a pizza one night from Cruisers Pizza that my husband absolutely loved! The beds were very comfortable as well. So overall it was a superior place to stay in a central location to Mount Rainier. Also the wifi was also very good! Thank you for a great experience!

Overall we enjoyed our stay, but more because of the accessibility to all the local hiking trails than the property, or town itself. The town is close by, but extremely expensive. It was more cost effective to eat out than try and cook even a basic meal. The cabin was as advertised, small, but is in need of basic updating. The entry mud room has a strong odor of ammonia, suggesting years of cat litter box in there. Luckily the odor was contained to that area. As with many properties these days, the property only provides the bare minimum for amenities. We were provided with half of a used sponge, half roll toilet paper (fun morning) and quarter roll paper towels. This is becoming the norm at each place I rent, and I find it completely inexcusable considering how much is charged.

The cabin was great! Extremely clean, organized and decor was so well done. We felt like special guests in beautiful home. My son and I were there to hike Ranier, so we spent most of our 2 days out on trails is above average heat, but the cabin's AC was great and was nice to come back to. Given the short trip, we didn't take advantage of all the amenities, but I did notice the outside grill was very clean and the view from deck was pretty. Packwood is also a great little town. Everyone was friendly and everywhere we ate was good and not overpriced. I hope to get back with my wife in next few years, and Wolley Bear Cabin would be top of my list.

Perfect little cabin for our family of 3. Great location for visiting both Sunrise and Paradise sides of Mt. Rainier NP. Had everything we needed. Convenient location from town. We even saw some Elk in Packwood!

Check in war soweit problemlos. Etwas kleinlich fand ich allerdings das die Tür erst tatsächlich um 15 Uhr 1 aufging.Die Küche ist normal ausgestattet. Unerträglich ist allerdings der Geruch aus den unteren Schränken. Ist wohl ein Abwasserproblrm

July Mt. Rainier

We arrived at this cozy cabin after a long day of traveling. Beautiful view from the deck for morning coffee and evening wine. Comfortable bed gave us a sound sleep. Kitchen had everything we needed. Gas grill was a plus for cooking dinner. Highly recommend this place.

This property is incredible, so well cared for and the host is lovely! Thank you so much for allowing us to stay here. Getting to visit on the patio, around the fire pit, and in the living room of this beautiful cabin will forever be in our memories. Packwood is a great little town and there’s so much to explore nearby! We hope to visit again soon!
