The Hummingbird Cottage, Treehouse & Garden - Ocean & Mountain Views

The 'Hummingbird Cottage (dubbed by our guests) is a Storybook Property above the Heart of Downtown Ventura. Detached Guest house with private bath, den and kitchenette on property with owner's main house. Treehouse is also a separate structure and sleeps one.

Private lush flower garden with full mountain views and a peek-a-boo of the ocean with the Channel Islands on clear days, deer grazing at Grant park at sunrise on the hill. Just steps to Historic Main street and it's trendy shops and restaurants, night clubs and galleries to fresh produce at Farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Take the beach cruisers down miles of boardwalk past Surfer's Point, the Fairgrounds, several campgrounds, the longest pier in California to the Harbor and beyond. Hiking, Surfing, and nightlife are all walking distance. Ojai and Santa Barbara are quick drives away. The rooms are very small but charming, the accommodations are for people who want to explore what the area has to offer. Fire Pit, Fountain, Barbecue, Porch Swing, it is romantic and subtle for the perfect get-away. So close to what you wanna see but feels like the perfect jungle Hide-Away.

The Worst Host I've Ever Had

I will try to keep this short. The owner of this property lied in her listing about having air conditioning. We texted and messaged her about this, and she never wrote back. It turns out she was 20 feet away in the front house. When questioned by VRBO management, she told them the air conditioner was "in the garage." (I'm not making this up.) It took me a month of fighting to get a full refund. I am now writing a letter to the CEO of VRBO. I hate being lied to in business. Don't stay here!

Property was awesome. Host was rude, argumentative and condescending.

If our stay would have been for just the weekend this would have been a 5-star review. BUT things turned sour on Monday the 8th.The tv stopped working & I called Sandra. She stated that she was 70 miles away & very busy but would video call later. My son was finally able to get it working. I missed a step down in the middle of the night but I was able to land on my feet sore from the jolt. I HIGHLY suggest some kind of lighted strip or something to make people aware it is there.

Small house with very nice gardens

The cottage was in a nice location, easy walking distance to Ventura downtown. The rooms were small but ok for a solo traveler like me or a couple. The gardens around the cottage were very nice and I felt like it was a very pleasant experience.

Cottage/ Tree house

We had the toilet back up the first night and there was no plunger on the property. Soemone brought over a toilet plunger and gave it to me. No maintenance man. I used it and the plunger came off. VRBO said the manager was billing us for another n$150.00 for damage to the cottage. The damage included feces on the walls (a lie), and stolen bed linen. (another lie). She even charged us for a new plunger that she said I broke. We left everything as we found it or better and we took no linen. Bad news.

I'm accused of leaving excrement and food on the floors and walls. This is an outrage.

When we left Property: 276728, everything was fine. My wife had cleaned the cottage and nothing was broken. We left the cottage clean. We didn't break any dishes; we didn't take any light bulbs; the batteries were used for the TV remotes that didn't work, we didn't take any towels. the groceries were included in the contract. Sandra said that she would have food in the fridge when we arrived The TV didn't work in the bedroom when we arrived and was never fixed There was no excrement and food on the floor and walls when we left. This is ridiculous. We left the cottage clean and undamaged with all lines and towels left in the hamper. We didn't take anything. We will not pay for damages that we did not cause. Magical Cottage

We had an INCREDIBLE stay! This was one of our favorite vacations ever, and it truly was because of the beautiful space we got to call home for a few days. Sandy was so welcoming and generous, having fresh baked cookies for us upon arrival and giving us tips to the best places in town. Overall it is so peaceful, and the care and attention to detail that went into creating the space does not go unnoticed. We WILL be back!

Short but sweet stay!

Hummingbird Cottage was lovely. We also loved the treehouse in the yard. Ventura was our last stop before catching a flight out of LAX. I would definitely stay here again. Sandra was easy to communicate with. The bed was comfortable. The cottage was decorated in an eclectic vintage style. The backyard and gardens were beautiful.

Beautiful spot in the heart of Ventura

This cottage was perfect for us. It was just what we needed for our stay in Ventura. We really loved it, and next time we come here, we would stay again. The garden and mountains were beautiful. There is never a moment when you won't have a hummingbird around you.

Summer getaway

The cottage was perfect for my wife and I, it was close to both Main Street with the shops and restaurants, as well as it is within walking distance to the beach. Wonderful time, and Sandra was very helpful in responding to our questions and needs.

Quaint, natural and private

Quaint indoor spaces and ample outdoor spaces. Sandra was easy to reach for questions and requests. We didn’t use the bikes or sauna but they were nice perks! Hummingbirds, butterflies fountain and mountains in the distance were quite wonderful. Walkable to downtown restaurants and shops.

Even More Charming than the Photos!

We were amazed! Everything from watching the birds bathe in the fountain, to the comfy beds and the fabulous fire pit area! We walked down the steps to a coffee shop every morning. The location is fabulous!

Cozy Cottage

This was a perfect place to stay for a quick overnight stay. Small kitchenette with all amenities you wanted to make small meals. Spacious bathroom with complimentary toiletries. I bring everything I need but if you forgot something Sandra had you covered. Will definitely stay here again if traveling to Ventura in the future.

Beautiful Cottage & Wonderful Host

“The Hummingbird” is adorable and stocked with all sorts of goodies. Sandra adds so many extras, she really goes above and beyond. We arrived late to such a lovely presentation, with the lights dimmed and flickering like candles, cookies on the counter. Our dog had some health issues and Sandra went out of her way to help, calling her vet and getting us in ASAP. It’s rare in todays world to find someone who is so dedicated to making sure guests are well taken care of. Our stay was too short, can’t wait to return!

The perfect place. On every point ❤️

I have spent my entire career traveling , sometimes 3 weeks out of a month. So, I have very high standards of where I spend my time away from home . This was the most charming, perfect place to spend time . Everything was on point from home made cookies , a fridge with fresh fruit, eggs for Breakfast and creme for my morning coffee to a rubber duck greeting me. I wish I could say “….. but…..” however there is no “but “ for this hideaway. The host was a call away but I had no reason to call her. Truly, I could live there and when I am back visiting in Ventura I will live there. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. This is a perfect getaway from the world. There was not one thing I would change ❤️❤️ I hope to get back soon

Our stay in the Hummingbird cottage was delightful! The place is tiny but very well appointed and has everything you need. The garden is amazing and gives you ample space to spread out of you need. The Hummingbird

This was a beautiful spot, conveniently located, and overlooking the hills of Ventura. Sandra was a gracious host. She has a beautiful backyard with chairs and a fire pit which she opens to guests. There is also a treehouse you can stay in if the mood strikes. I highly reccomend this wonderful property.

Forbes magazine lists Ventura as one of the top four places to live in the U.S.! I agree. I have been surprised and pleased with the lovely guests we have had to enjoy the property and all Ventura has to offer..

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

Just one hour North of Hollywood, one half hour South of Santa Barbara, and twenty minutes West of Ojai, we have the best of the ocean, the city and the mountains right here and a quick hop away. Pets are also welcome in the cottage. Securely fenced and ready to roam, the large garden and wild lower yard are, as recent guests described it, 'Dog Heaven'.

The treehouse is tiny and enchanting. Completely wired, WIFI friendly and heated, it is perfect for naps for adults or children to sleep in. Best view on the property of the green, untouched mountains to our North. Some guests have had to draw straws to determine who gets the treehouse!
