Blue Ridge Home in Quiet Neighborhood Minutes to SVU, W&L, & VMI

In the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills you’ll find this cozy home minutes to SVU, VMI and W&L. Relax near the indoor fireplace, enjoy stories at the fire pit (firewood not provided), recline in the pergola swings, or curl up and enjoy your favorite movie on the oversized movie screen in the entertainment room. For the adventurer, enjoy a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway, or a hike into the Washington National Forest, or visiting the nearby Panther Falls.

A few items to note: some of the pictures in the description are of the nearby sites and scenery, and not visible from the home. There are two step offs in the home. One from the living room into the entertainment room, and one from the living room into the kitchen. There are two mini split units for the home, but if doors are closed, heat or air have a hard time reaching those rooms. An extra fan and heater are in each bedroom closet to you cool off or warm up a little quicker if desired.

This is a hard review to write, because the host is amazing. Very communicative and helpful. I love kind people like that! The issue for me is that the property did not appear as pictured, and there were some issues. The theater room smelled like cat litter, but it couldn’t have actually been cat litter. There were no other signs of cats in or around the house. The kitchen lacked a few essentials, and it wasn’t as clean as we expected. HOWEVER, I will take a kind and generous host with a less than stellar space any day over an immaculate place with an unkind host (I speak from experience.). I just want this review to help set expectations for people. That is all. I DO recommend this place and the host.

I needed information on how to use the mini-splits. I tried to adjust the temperature but it went into another mode.The only other thing was the step down to the kitchen. I would forget it was there and hit the floor hard. It's a great home, everything you need in the kitchen and bathrooms. Beds are comfortable and lots of blankets, if needed. It is close to a lot of hte hiking we wanted to do.

Although Keaton was very friendly and communicative, we were pretty disappointed with the property. The place is very dirty. Dishes in the cabinet had food stuck on them (they make you do the dishes as a part of check out so of course they don’t get cleaned well when people are on their way out), the inside of the fridge is grimy, there is a bunch of dust under the beds and on the vents, and the shower is mildewed. Overall the place is just not well maintained and dirty, but the property doesn’t make up for it in amenities. Probably fine if you just need a place to crash but you can get a hotel for the same price or cheaper. Reading other reviews about cleanliness was confusing because this was absolutely not our experience. The pictures are edited and angled in a way that makes you think the place is nicer and different than it is. Also the captions are AI generated and straight up wrong for most pictures. The hammock chairs outside are really dirty so you can’t even use them. Adirondack chairs were nice though. Inside there isn’t really enough seating for everyone to sit comfortably, just two recliners in the “movie room” and then a love seat in the main room. The AC is two wall split units so some rooms get kinda hot if the door is closed. Overall, we were disappointed and felt uncomfortable during our stay. If we had planned to stay longer than 2 nights, we would have found somewhere else to stay.

The home was in a great location and was immaculately clean and well stocked. The theater room with bunk beds was amazing, my kids loved it. Do note that the bedrooms are stocked with fans and space heaters but do not have HVAC or mini splits, so when the temperature plunged overnight my 9 month old woke up crying from cold and then when we tried to plug in the space heater, it blew the fuse. There is also an issue with the shower which allows no pressure. Overall for the price, we had a great stay, and a lot of thought was obviously put into this listing.

Katy, I'm sorry for the couple of points that were a poor experience for you all. The mini splits do heat or cool the home, but with drastic changes of temperature like we had from day to night, they can be a little slow. Again, I'm so sorry. We just had the shower remodeled, and found out the new shower head was defective and have it replaced. Thank you for letting us know of these issues and I'm sorry for the inconveninces they caused you.

Long weekend visit

We enjoyed our recent stay! The owner was quick to respond to my question and the check-in process was a breeze. My young adult son loved the media room and appreciated the snacks. We would stay here again and have already recommended it to other family visiting the area this Fall.

A quaint little place

We stayed overnight on a road trip to break up the driving. Check in was straight forward. The house had everything we needed for the evening. Overall, a nice stay.

Kids loved the house!

My teens and younger kids loved the house. They took full advantage of the movie room (thank you for the snacks)! We all enjoyed the fire pit and relaxing chair swings.

Great Place / Great Location

Property manager was always available and quick to communicate before and during the stay. The house was clean and there were ample places to sleep (2 beds, bunk beds, and a pullout bed). The kids loved the media room with the projector and Netflix/Disney+. The only thing I would have liked was curtains on the kitchen doors and full curtains at the kitchen window instead of 3/4 curtains. Overall a wonderful and relaxing place to rest on our road trip.

Great stay

Seamless check-in. House was close to SVU, which we wanted. The only thing is we could not get the lights to work outside. However, I never did contact the host to figure it out. It wasn’t that big of a deal. Overall enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
