Winding through a Madrona forest hillside on the coveted Westside of San Juan Island, Haro Sunset House greets you with sweeping views from Vancouver Island to Salt Spring Island to the North. This home is known for its stunning views from the expansive deck and with amazing wildlife viewing. The home is near San Juan County Park for beach access and the iconic Lime Kiln Light House. The owner’s home is located next door, yet separated by two garage structures and a garden, leaving a feeling of seclusion and serenity.

Gorgeous home, inside and out. The sunset views were outstanding. It had all the amenities you would want. Owners were next door and available if needed. They were very nice and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would return in a heartbeat.

What a wonderful place

We really enjoyed our stay. Owner was very friendly and the house was great. Got to say the sunsets were amazing. House was very comfortable and clean. My family and I would definitely stay here again.

Heavenly Haro House

The location of this property affords the most magnificent views of Haro Strait and beyond. Besides the view, the house is beautiful, comfortable and very peaceful. The actual home owners are so nice, helpful and friendly. We loved staying there. We would love to stay there again.

Just beautiful!

The views, birds, and peacefulness make this a wonderful place to stay….and the house is wonderful, too! There are numerous spaces indoor and out for visiting and just enjoying the natural beauty. The house was super clean and very well equipped for cooking and for playing games. Virtually every amenity we wanted. We would definitely stay again!

Initially skeptical, but the house truly is amazing. Very clean and well maintained. So secluded it felt like we were the only ones on the island. Unbeatable view.

Amazing stay!

Lisa was an excellent host! She was a great communicator and gave us lots of helpful info about what to see on the island. The house was spacious, beautifully decorated and had everything we could possibly need. We felt immediately comfortable and at home. The view from the deck is outstanding, the sunsets gorgeous and so blissfully quiet!! We were sorry to leave this little slice of heaven, we hope to return soon!

Spectacular sunsets and beautifully appointed home!

We had a terrific four day stay at Haro House. The house is comfortable, stylish, and perfect for our trip with our pups. Decorated with Lisa’s beautiful art it is probably one of the best decorated vacation rentals we’ve stayed in. Kitchen equipment is high quality, beds were comfy, and the house came stocked with nice extras to enhance our stay—lots of extra blankets, bug spray, coffee, and Bluetooth speaker. Lisa was a terrific host—prompt to respond and welcoming!

Nice, peaceful place

Another couple, my wife and I spent 4 days here. Hard to leave the deck as the view is terrific and the property was so peaceful. Quick access to Roche, British Camp and San Juan County Park is a big plus. The interior of this home was very modern with top notch appliances and a really great kitchen that had everything one could want or need if you enjoy prepping your own meals like we do. Lisa and Joe were very kind, helpful and friendly.

Beautiful Views & pretty home. We booked the house for a week for our daughter’s wedding. We loved the home and the art. The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of WiFi for phone’s and ability to watch on your tablet. Lovely home & wonderful views for days! Especially the sunsets

Wonderful all-around experience!

This was the best vacation rental we have ever stayed in! The kitchen was gorgeous and well-appointed with everything needed to cook or bake. The view from the deck was jaw-dropping — we could hang out all day just watching boats pass through Haro Strait. The hot tub is great! The beds are comfortable, the house was neat as a pin, and the hosts were wonderful people, very helpful and kind. I hope to meet up with them again. I highly recommend this rental! FYI — Lisa is a very talented artist; check out her paintings in the house and at her gallery (coming December 2023) near the ferry line.

Our family has been visiting the San Juan Islands steadily for ten years. Haro Sunset House was everything we wanted in a vacation rental. The house was just as described and well appointed for our needs. The owner, Lisa was an accommodating host and made sure to let us know that we should be able to see the J Pod orcas one evening. We saw them that evening and a couple days later saw another group of orcas swimming by. The sunsets every night were beautiful and they really never get old. If you’re thinking about booking this property, please do it. You will love it! We would recommend it to anyone traveling with friend group, a family, or even a single who wants to stretch out a little.

Absolutely lovely!

Everything about this stay was amazing (the VRBO, the Owners, the expansive view, and the critters). My Dad and I were staying a couple nights to attend my nephew’s wedding. Dad and I both remarked that we might just prefer to skip the wedding at stay on the deck all day. Owners Lisa and Joe were knowledgeable of the area, helpful, and engaging (but not intrusively so). Truly gems of peeps. The home was well appointed (with thoughtful touches like plenty of hooks and space in the bathrooms, all plus extra kitchen tools and appliances, books, games, etc.). Gorgeously decorated, including beautiful artwork by Lisa. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Our stay with our family of four (2 adults and kids ages 11 and 8) was wonderful! The property was exactly as pictured, and the views from the patio were even better in person. We loved watching the barges travel back and forth—it was surprisingly relaxing.The house matched the listing perfectly. I had actually forgotten it had a hot tub, which was a fun bonus! We mostly cooked breakfast, but the kitchen was fully stocked and had everything you would need to prepare full meals.The listing accurately mentioned that the internet can be spotty. We had planned to bring a laptop with downloaded movies but accidentally left it at home. Some days we were able to stream without any issues, and other days we couldn’t. This was exactly as described and completely outside of the host’s control. Honestly, it ended up being a blessing because our kids spent more time playing the many board games that were provided. If you like winding down with a movie in the evening, I’d recommend downloading it ahead of time and bringing a laptop—there’s an HDMI hookup to connect it to the TV.Both beds were very comfortable, and the individual A/C units in each bedroom kept the rooms cool and comfortable.Overall, we had a fantastic stay. The property was exactly as advertised, the host set accurate expectations, and the San Juan Islands were absolutely amazing. We’d happily stay here again!

A true Pacific Northwest girl, I dreamed my entire life of living on an Island with a western exposure and views of the sunset through Madrona branches. And so when the opportunity arose, in the Spring of 2017, for me to house sit on San Juan Island, I had a hunch I would never leave… and I didn’t! Haro Sunset House is truly a magical dream come true that I deeply enjoy sharing with all of my guests.

I have been a full time artist for over two decades. My studio and home are located on the 11 acres that Haro Sunset House sits. As a painter, to say that the property here with its ever changing flora and fauna is inspiring, is an understatement. My work is deeply influenced by the land and all of the feathered and furry creatures that call this home. I am also Orca obsessed, and will drop everything in order to run down to the shore to watch them pass by.

Haro Sunset House is filled with not only my art but also that of some of my Island artist friends… I am happy to welcome studio visits and art experiences by appointment.

I can’t wait for everyone who visits here to feel the magic, see the beauty, and find the inspiration I have been so fortunate to experience.
