Golden Gate Park & Museums 1 Block Away; Garage, Laundry Room, EV Charger
The San Francisco Duck’s Nest is a huge, sunny, 2 bedroom, Edwardian flat which has just been completely renovated. With walnut wainscoting, inlaid oak hardwood floors, fireplace, and polished brass fixtures throughout, it combines classic San Francisco with all modern conveniences. “If you are going to San Francisco”, and want to stay in a home that truly makes you feel warm and welcomed the minute you enter, with a garage and complete laundry room, and/or enjoy running, cycling, or walking in Golden Gate Park, this is the location!
Most folks visiting San Francisco often spend at least a day visiting Golden Gate Park, the de Young Museum, Academy of Sciences, Japanese Tea Gardens, or strolling through the world famous Conservatory of Flowers. There is something nice about getting up, having a cup of coffee at home (or at the coffee shop around the corner), and just walking to the end of the block to enjoy these activities.
With The Duck’s Nest as your home in San Francisco, you will have a new 55” Sony Bravia High Definition television with home theatre surround sound system, complete with DirecTV/HBO/DVR and a video library of 25+movies filmed in SF, computer/printer/Wi-Fi, new granite counter tops in the kitchen , all new stainless steel appliances (refrigerator, chef range, dishwasher), a laundry room with new frontloading washer and dryer, new 23' Samsung Hi-Def television in master bedroom (DirecTV/HBO), and a secure garage with extra storage space for large items (golf clubs, bicycles, kayaks, etc.)
The wonderful, central, location of The Duck’s Nest will help make your visit to San Francisco so easy and convenient, you’ll want to leave the car in the garage. A new, upscale, grocery store with full deli is one block away, go one block in another direction and there’s a children’s playground. Restaurants of almost every ethnicity and type (from high end French cuisine to classic American diner) and pubs galore (some with live entertainment) are a 10-15 minute walk from your front door. Four major bus-lines (1 to 3 blocks away) take you to all other major sightseeing attractions in San Francisco and a 15-20 minute walk will get you to the University of San Francisco campus, the Haight Ashbury district, or the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.
And lastly, you’ll find all the “small but important” things within The Duck’s Nest to make your stay enjoyable, fun, and special. A master bedroom, quiet, and romantically secluded in the back and away from the living and dining room, complete with superior linens and regular/memory foam/orthopedic/Euro pillows. A bathroom with 8 sets of elegant bath linens and plush terry cloth robes. A kitchen with small appliances, cooking utensils, a ceiling mounted pots/pan rack, and a stainless steel preparation table with stools underneath so you don’t have to stand when cooking gourmet meals. A laundry room to do your wash while you sleep, cook, or go out for the day or evening. A living room where you’ll choose between kicking back in a cozy recliner, stretching out on a comfy couch with bunches of pillows, curling up in a huge overstuffed chair, or checking out the French pane bay window seat (somehow folks always seem to like doing this!)
So choose from among The Duck’s Nest sightseeing guide books, family board games, or DVD’s from our collection of popular San Francisco movies, perhaps something like Escape from Alcatraz or The Rock if you are planning on visiting Alcatraz tomorrow. Toss a self-lighting Dura-Flame log into the fireplace, curl up on the couch and enjoy.
You’re home in San Francisco.

Acerca del anfitrión
Anfitrión: Lisa, Diana, and Rob Duca
Diana and I are proud to welcome you to our home, The San Francisco Duck’s Nest! Just as you are carefully choosing a place which will make your visit special, we too are looking for thoughtful, caring, special folks who will care for our home as if it were their own. The Duck’s Nest gets its name from Rob’s longtime nickname “the Duck” (although we are not even certain whether ducks’ actually build nests!) and the sense of friendly, inviting, “coziness” that 90 year old restored homes just seem to provide. Somehow, people just seem to have fun and feel good here. Diana and I enjoy an active lifestyle, with cycling (last year Rob thought it would be a good idea to ride his bicycle across the U.S. and he actually did it), hiking, and dogs being high on our list of fun things to do. Throughout the years, Diana and I have always found that time spent with family and friends is what really makes living in San Francisco so wonderful, and oh, what tales The Nest could tell! From 25 years of Memorial All-Day Picnics with volleyball in the Park, to seasons of 49’er and Giant’s games, to countless rock ‘n roll/country/reggae/opera/bluegrass music concerts and comedy festivals in the park, to 100,00+ people Bay to Breaker runs each spring, to an evening on the town, to sightseeing with out-of-town visitors. Afterwards, so many evenings always ended with laughter late into the night at The Nest. Arriving in San Francisco during that magical “Summer of Love” in 1967, raising our children (Lisa and Ben), and working for the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and School of Pharmacy for many years, we have called 9th Avenue home until just recently. Like many of our generation, we now care for an elderly parent outside of San Francisco and that leaves The Nest empty at times. But like the chorus of Tony Bennett’s song, our heart (and the laughter!) will always be there.
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
Location, location, location! We’ve already mentioned how close The Duck’s Nest is to Golden Gate Park’s major attractions (the de Young Museum, the Academy of Sciences, Japanese Tea Gardens, Conservatory of Flowers) and that most San Francisco visitors usually spend at least a day visiting them. While these attractions are literally at the end of the block, the Golden Gate Park tennis courts are a 10 minute walk, paddle boating at Stow Lake is a 10 minute walk, the fly-fishing casting pools are a 20 minute walk, there’s even a nine hole golf course in the park (betcha didn’t know that!) And at night, the Academy and its Planetarium has a weekly event – where else can you enjoy music, science, entertainment, and cocktails! Since it is close to the geographical center of San Francisco, The Duck’s Nest makes going anywhere easy: A new, upscale, full delicatessen, Safeway grocery store is one city block away. If you don’t feel like going out to eat, it’s nice to grab groceries or a bite that’s close by. Three major bus lines run downtown (#5 Fulton, #31 Balboa are one block away; #38 Geary is 3 blocks away) to Market Street, connect to all attractions, and avoid the hassle of SF driving and SF parking costs at $5-$20 an hour. Going to Ocean Beach, the Clift House, or Palace Legion of Honor? It’s simple – 15 minutes in the opposite direction. The Golden Gate Bridge is a 20 minute ride (#28 19th Ave/Presidio bus line 3 blocks away). The University of San Francisco is a 15 minute walk and the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center is a 20 minute walk. It’s a 5-10 minute walk to Balboa Street, inner Sunset, and Clement Street restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs. And lastly, if you are planning a day trip north to Sausalito, Muir Woods, Napa Valley or south to Santa Cruz, Monterey Bay it’s a 2 minute drive to Park Presidio Drive (US1).
Qué distingue a esta propiedad
The Duck’s Nest is over 100 years old, having been built in 1913. It was constructed by an Italian contractor and between the kitchen, the pantry, and the dining room, almost 40% of the living space is devoted to enjoying meals together as a family. During the holidays or when the temperatures in San Francisco are chilly, nothing beats a family dinner of pasta, lighting the fireplace, and then settling down to watch a football game or movie on a surround sound home theatre system. Our son, Ben, had allergies, so in each bedroom there are HEPA filers if needed. On the same floor and off the kitchen is a laundry room, with a new Samsung front loading washer and new Samsung gas dryer. If traveling, it’s great to catch up your wash as you go to sleep or before going out sightseeing or while making a dinner – and never have to leave home. If you are travelling with bicycles, other large items, you don’t have to carry them upstairs to your room for safety. The garage and adjacent storage areas are secure and such items can be left downstairs. And if you enjoy eating out, American, Chinese, Thai, seafood, Dim Sum, Korean, Italian, Russian, Mexican, and too many other ethnic restaurants are minutes away by walking, as well as some great Irish Pubs!
