Cow hollow

The cottage was just as the pictures showed it. It is in the prefect location and it is very comfortable. The owner was always available if issues came up. I highly recommend it.

Lovely Cottage - Perfect for our Needs! We absolutely loved our visit!

My husband & I took our first trip to San Francisco last Fall (2015) to visit our son and do some sightseeing. We found this gem on VRBO, read the fantastic reviews and thought it sounded perfect for us. Daryl was great to work with and the personal amenities that were provided were above & beyond our expectations! Daryl & her husband have created this gem of a cottage in a beautiful neighborhood behind their home. They thought of all the details to make us feel so welcome and at home, from the fresh flowers in every room to the Starbucks coffee (which really sold us), fresh fruit, jam, muffins, cookies, cream, juice, cereal, milk, etc.! Since we didn't rent a car, we Uber'd for our first time and that worked out quite well. We felt like Uber experts by the end of our trip! We didn't cook during our 10 night stay, but certainly could have in the beautiful, stocked kitchen with state of the art appliances. We especially loved the private patio behind our cottage, which was perfect for unwinding with a glass (or 2) of wine after a fun-filled day of touring the city and taking wonderful excursions to Sonoma, Muir Woods, Alcatraz, or North Beach Food Tour! My son's job had recently required him to move to LA, but his company allowed him to work remotely & Daryl graciously accommodated him to stay with us in the 2-bedroom cottage for part of that time for a reasonable fee. This was a dream vacation for us, and I didn't want to leave! We feel so blessed to have stumbled on this wonderful place & would definitely stay again when we return!!! My husband, son, & I really appreciated Daryl and her husband's hospitality and cannot wait to plan another trip! I would wholeheartedly recommend this luxury cottage if you are planning a trip to this beautiful city of San Francisco! Thank you, thank you Daryl & Mark for all you did!!!

Perfect Place

Our stay at this cottage was fantastic. Booking was easy and our host, Daryl, was wonderful to deal with. Before we arrived, we asked Daryl for some restaurant recommendations. She promptly send us an email with a detailed list of some of her favorite restaurants throughout the city, as well as a list of coffee shops and convenience stores in the neighborhood. When we arrived, Daryl warmly greeted us and helped us throughout our stay. She even helped us with our transportation to the airport when we left. Daryl and her husband Mark were very friendly and it was a pleasure speaking with them and getting to know them. The cottage had fresh flowers, was beautifully decorated, and was stocked with all of the essentials for breakfast, including Starbucks coffee, cream, milk, orange juice, fresh fruit, English muffins, jam, butter, cereal, yogurt, and eggs. The cottage is very private and we felt like we were at home. The yard and surrounding gardens were picture perfect and we loved the private deck in the back of the cottage. The location was wonderful - close to great shopping and great restaurants, and fairly easy to get to other places in the city either by walking, car, or public transportation. We had a car for part of our stay, which we were allowed to park in Daryl's driveway for a small (and very reasonable) fee. And our youngest son loved playing with their cat, Sasha! We will definitely stay here again if we have the opportunity. We highly recommend staying here.

Bestlage in San Francisco

Liebe Daryl, lieber Mark, für meine Söhne und für mich war es ein ganz besonders schöner Start unserer Kalifornien-Rundreise. Wir haben uns in Eurem schönen Cottage direkt sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Lage ist einfach perfekt. Im Haus war alles genau so, wie auf den Bildern zu sehen. Der Kühlschrank war gefült. Wir wären am liebsten noch länger als 5 Tage geblieben. Un trésor caché au coeur de San Francisco

Magnifique cottage, très bien agencé, très bien équipé (mention spéciale pour la literie) et au calme absolu ce qui est fort appréciable après des journées passées dans les rues de San Francisco. Il est situé dans un des plus beaux quartiers. Accueil parfait : fleurs, tout ce qu'il faut pour parer au premier petit déjeuner avec des produits de grande qualité (bio), nécessaire de toilette fourni (gel douche, shampoing), fourni également les doses pour le lave-vaisselle et la lessive. Ça semble bête de le préciser mais n'ayant toujours réserver des appartements ou maisons qu'en France, nous n'avons jamais eu ce genre de prestations et cela est vraiment appréciable. Nous terminerons par souligner la gentillesse de Daryl qui a tout fait pour rendre notre séjour inoubliable. C'est sans hésiter que nous retournerons à cet endroit pour notre prochain séjour à San Francisco.

Beautiful, Private, Wonderful Inside and Out

Ambrosial! In both my husband's opinion and mine, this was the best place we have vacation rented before…and we have rented often in San Francisco and many other places. This cottage was prettier than pictured, the linens were heavenly and so sweet ( hand embroidered pillow cases and high quality sheets), the kitchen wonderfully equipped and the gardens that surrounded it all provided so much pleasure. Everywhere we looked we saw green or flowers. We loved the private deck on the back. In all corners of this property, the care that the owners put into it is fully evident. Our hosts have the talent for providing the most caring hosting, being available for any and all questions, and yet provided us with the utmost respect for our privacy. All the attention they have put into the decor and equipping the cottage make for a delightful stay. The setting is quiet as can be and the location ( both the street that the cottage is on and the larger neighborhood in which is is located) is perfect. We had all our dinners out in restaurants, delicious, that were a block or two away. We loved the proximity to the waterfront at the marina area and also loved the little Blue Fog Market/Deli on the corner near the cottage. There was a huge bowl of fresh fruit waiting in the kitchen upon our arrival and even though we were there for 9 days, we never needed to think of buying more food for breakfasts….there were eggs in the fridge, cereal and milk, cream for coffee, many choices of tea and also coffee waiting to be enjoyed. There were chocolates in the cut glass bowl in the living room, a bag of cookies in the kitchen and freshly arranged flowers in every room….gorgeous! We felt pampered and so fortunate to have chosen this perfect spot. The night before we departed the cottage, my husband was busily looking at the rental calendar to see when we could return. It is a place like this that made Tony Bennett sing the song about leaving his heart in San Francisco.

Couldn't have asked for more!

This review is late but we are planning a return trip to San Francisco and I realized I forgot to do this sooner!! We had such an amazing time here, the location was perfect and Dale was so accommodating with any special requests (it was a surprise trip for a birthday and we had guests arriving as an additional surprise at a later time that she had to wait around for!). The basic grocery supplies were appreciated and saved us a trip to the store. We would love to stay here again for this next trip but it is unfortunately booked :( Perhaps next time!!

Amazing

No words to describe perfect from booking to check out. Daryl even provided us with coats and scarfs for our trip to Alcatraz. Beautiful welcome basket basket of fruit. Luxury towels bedding and anything you could possible need for your stay. Leaving this beautiful little cottage was the hard part Thank you so much.

Quiet location with amazing amenities

My husband and I have just returned from a 6 week holiday to the U.S.A. and Canada. We stayed in several apartments, cottages and B&Bs, but none compared with this fabulous cottage. The owner/manager is friendly and helpful and allowed us early check-in and late check-out. On top of that, she had provided very generous breakfast provisions, soaps, lotions, fruits, beautiful flowers, other food stuffs, dressing gowns, etc, etc. The description in the listing is absoutely accurate and the house was immaculately clean and well-maintained. We were greeted on arrival and everything we needed to know about the house and the surrounding area was explained to us. Restaurants in Union Street and nearby were recommended - we can definitely suggest Capannini, which is a fabulous Italian restaurant with Italian waiters. The prices are on the high side, but definitely worth it. I also enjoyed La Boulange for coffee and cake. The stand out activities in San Francisco were riding the cable car, walking up to Coit Tower, the "crookedest street" and walking across the Golden Gate Bridge. Should we ever travel to San Francisco in the future, this would be our first port of call. In fact, I would make sure that I booked well in advance, as I wouldn't want to miss out on staying at this fantastic cottage. Thanks for everything!

Charming Cottage, Gracious Hosts

We highly recommend this charming two bedroom cottage in San Francisco's Mission district. Located in a safe, upscale neighborhood behind a beautiful Victorian mansion, the cottage provided the perfect setting for a wonderful weekend. Daryl and Mark are the most gracious hosts, providing milk, OJ, English Muffins, fruit, coffee, eggs, butter, etc. for our breakfast and beautiful flowers for our arrival. A fully stocked kitchen facilitated a large family dinner served on the flower bedecked back patio. Comfortable beds (king and queen). Even a crib set up for our 1 year old grandchild! The location is quiet and there is a great deli just down the street. Just a block and a half in the other direction is a convenience store offering a large selection of wine and beer. There is a nice park across the street. Daryl and Mark were kind enough to even offer free laundry facilities, although we didn't need them. The cottage is beautifully decorated with upgrades throughout. We will be back!

Sweet, Safe and cozy - with room to breathe

Finally getting around to writing this review of this wonderful cottage. I stayed there last November with my daughter and her friend for a long weekend. Really a great cottage - we wanted to just move in! A great area, right on the edge of the hills but easy to find flat neighborhoods very nearby to go for a run. Daryl, the owner, has done a great job welcoming people. We made scrambled eggs with English muffins and orange juice on our first morning - all provided by the owner. The girls ate the gift chocolates as soon as they arrived! They are still talking about that cottage in San Francisco.

Charming Pacific Heights Cottage

Quiet, well-maintained, and thoughtfully appointed guest cottage behind a traditional Victorian San Francisco row house in Pacific Heights.My wife and I stayed here with our 2-year old for a week while visiting my brother, who lives in the neighborhood. This cottage is in what is probably one of the nicest neighborhoods in SF. There are charming restaurants and shops nearby, and the Blue Fog Market is an upscale deli/coffee shop at the corner. You can easily run down to the water and through the Marina district, and the Presidio is not too far if you prefer more of a challenge. Trolley and bus access is not far away, either. As for the accommodations, they were clean, quiet, and secure. Daryl has an impeccable eye for anticipation of her renters' needs. We had a clean crib set up for us. There was tear-free bubble bath in the shower, and when we checked in on the first evening, there were basic fixings for breakfast available in the well-stocked kitchen. Even the toys that she had available for our son had been cleaned ahead of time-- and there was even a "new" surprise for him. We had access to a washer/drier in the main house, and the parking spot (for which we paid extra) was able to fit a Ford Escape. Daryl's communication with me was always timely and accurate. I would recommend this rental for couples or a family with one small, well-behaved child. You feel like you are part of the owner's home when you are there (even though you have your own very private space), so well-behaved, considerate folks will probably get the most out of the accommodations. We would certainly rent from Daryl again.

Wonderful Birthday Surprise!

We stayed here last year as a surprise for my husband's birthday celebration and Daryl was wonderful! My husband's friend joined us a day later and Daryl was able to play along with the secret and stayed home from work for our friend so that my husband didn't suspect a thing! The house was clean and Daryl had flowers and many great breakfast foods available for us upon arrival. Daryl had many great dinner and sightseeing recommendations and the location was perfect! We had such a great time here and will definitely stay here is we ever go back!!

The most wonderful home we ever had on holiday

As shown in other reviews we expected a very good home for holiday , but it was even much better!! It´s a very lovely place to stay, The cottage is furnished and decorated in the best of taste, flowers in every room, the kitchen has everything you need for good cooking - and when you look outside the windows at the dining table you only see palm trees and other plants. It is silent here, you think you are out in the country, but it only takes a short walk to get to the bay, to a super market or to the bus stop. We also enjoyed the private patio very much - it is a loverly place to sit in the sun. Daryl and Mark are the very best hosts. Whenever we had a problem or a question they were there for us. And we also love the cat. We have been a few times in San Francisco and we will come back. And now we know the Nelson´s Cottage we only want to stay there!

Absolutely Perfect - Highly Recommended!!!

We've stayed at many rental properties, but Nelson's Retreat is our new favorite. The location is perfect; parking included, a short block walk to the bus stop, shopping, restaurants, & entertainment. The cottage itself is absolutely charming - very clean, fantastic decor, comfy bedding, well stocked kitchen, beautiful garden and patio, luxurious bath towels & bath robes, etc. I could go on. The owners, who live on site, are very helpful & do a wonderful job of making you feel welcome, but are not intrusive at all. We only saw them twice during our stay (when we first arrived, & when they assisted us by printing a Groupon). They go above & beyond to make your stay truly special; fresh flowers in the living room & bedrooms, chocolates on the coffee table, a large bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen table, soft chocolate chip cookies (which our kids devoured the 1st night), microwave popcorn, cereal, bagels & cream cheese, a dozen organic eggs, half gallons of milk & OJ, a variety of yogurts, butter, bottled water, a variety of soda. All of these items were very unexpected, but greatly appreciated. This meant we could spend our 1st night taking in the beautiful San Francisco sunset rather than shopping for breakfast food. I was also very impressed when I opened the bathroom cabinet. There were new tooth brushes & a bottle of toothpaste, shampoos and conditioner, body lotion, a new mini first aide kit, disposable makeup remover wipes, & much more. Again, very unexpected but these items just go to show that the owners want their guests to have a comfortable stay. This was our first trip to San Francisco & we loved it. The only problem we had was that we didn't pack enough warm clothes (it is much colder than we anticipated). We still had an amazing time. We would recommend; Alcatraz for sure, the Exploratorium (especially if you have kids), Pier 39 / Fisherman's Wharf (somewhat of a tourist trap, but worth checking out), catching a Giant's game at AT&T Park (bring warm jackets), a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge (rent bikes thru Blazing Saddles), Muir Woods, Sutro Baths (Not part of our original plans, but so so glad we discovered them), Golden Gate Park, Go Cars (great fun but go early in your trip - we drove by many sites we wanted to go back to visti. Even with all the fun we had, we always looked returning to our comfortable home away from home at the end of the each day. We would definitely stay here again!

Fabulous Vacation Rental!

We cannot say enough about our stay in your beautiful cottage house. It was above and beyond our expectations in every way. The location allowed us to walk to amazing restaurants and shops which was very important to us. The home itself is beautifully furnished and everything in wonderful condition (gourmet kitchen, high quality mattresses and linens, nicely remodeled bath etc). The setting was also charming and we so enjoyed the private courtyard. This was our first time renting a private home in the San Francisco area and we will return to your home without a second thought should it be available and we would highly recommend this to to anyone looking to stay in the area! Thank you again for sharing your home with us!

Lovely cottage- Highly recommended!

This was the perfect rental for me, my husband, and our two children last August. We stayed for three nights, but I wish it had been longer. The house is beautifully decorated and well-appointed. The kitchen had every utensil you could want for cooking meals in but there are a number of close restaurants for dining out. Daryl provided us with enough provisions for breakfast for a couple of days, which was really appreciated since we didn't get to the cottage until late the first night. The location is good, close enough to walk to many attractions, even with a 6 and 3-year-old in tow. Some of my favorite things- *coffee in the foggy cool mornings in front of the woodstove *relaxing on the back patio in the afternoon sun *my girls playing in the garden with the cat Thanks Daryl for a great stay! Hope we can visit again soon.

Our New Home Away From Home

This cottage rental went above and beyond our expectations! It's really quite hard to find a fault with this rental. It is very nicely appointed with great bedding and amenities. The location in Cow Hollow is excellent as you can walk Union, Polk, Fillmore, and Chestnut Streets. Union Square, the Wharf, Chinatown, Northbeach are within a 5 minute cab ride and are also walkable as well. The hosts are truly what make this cottage special. They have thought of everything you might need and really go above and beyond by including many special touches to ensure your stay is memorable! I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone, and as a former resident of San Francisco, this is now our new home whenever we visit!

Most Perfect Place to Stay in SF

We have never experienced such warm hospitality in our lives as when we met the owners of this cottage. Daryl & Mark were absolutely AWESOME. The cottage was GORGEOUS; exquisitely decorated and had all the amenities you could desire. They even stocked the cottage with some basic foods, including a fresh fruit bowl and fresh flowers. The beds had down comforters and were so comfortable. They also gave us large soft bath towels and robes. And the wood-burning fireplace was just what we needed to warm up on those chilly San Francisco nights. This is THE place to stay in San Francisco, no matter your age, or your childrens' ages. The location is perfect - close toThe Wharf, Chinatown, Pier 39, Golden Gate Bridge, and Pier 33 for Alcatraz Island. However, parking is a premium in SF, and the spot offered with this rental property (for a nominal price) is well-worth the money. If you do not have a car, there is plenty of great shopping within walking distance on Union Street and Polk Street. The neighborhood is completely safe, and an idealistic setting. STAY HERE. STAY HERE. STAY HERE!! You will not be sorry. It was one of the highlights of our vacation, and we can't wait to go back.
