This house is very old and interesting with some interesting history. I love old houses and this place has some unique details. The pool was an added detail that we didn’t use much, but would be fun for families with children. The surrounding back yard was very private and shady. Convenient to downtown and the river.

Very nice historical house to stay in! You get to see all of the craftsmanship from that era when the house was built. Very nice. Very spacious, at the same time just enough modern upgrades to make your stay comfortable without taking away from the house. Thanks again. Definitely will be staying here again.

We were a group of 5, 70ish, ladies that enjoy touring historic mansions and seeing and hearing about the way of life for some of the more affluent families of the time. Staying at the Elenor Davis home gave us a sample of the beautiful architecture and woodwork of the era. We enjoyed reading about the history of this home. Jim and Anneliesa have done a beautiful job in this restoration. Anneliesa was extremely prompt in answering our calls or texts and making sure our stay was a good one. When staying here, one has to remember you’re not staying in a brand new home. We had a great time staying here while learning about the town of Hannibal and the Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Historic Gem

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautifully restored home. While the house has all the modern conveniences, it maintains the look and feel of the 1800s - and the old-style plumbing fixtures are super cool! The hosts really go the extra mile with thoughtful touches - historic books, quirky games, and even kitchen staples. Convenient walking distance to tourist destinations, too. Highly recommended!

Beautiful Victorian

Perfect location close to attractions and restaurants. Very hilly area so not really walkable (especially for seniors) but the parking downtown was not a problem. The neighborhood was quiet at night and we enjoyed the deck. We also enjoyed the sunroom with morning coffee. Comfortable beds made for a good night sleep. The beautiful historic home was fun to see and learn about. We enjoyed the delicious pizza from Brick Oven and the catfish basket from Finns was wonderful.

Amazing House

My husband and our 2 dogs had a great time. We only stayed 2 nights, wish we could have stayed longer. I especially enjoyed sitting on the front porch, watching the rain pour down, and not getting a drop on me. The back deck and yard were also very enjoyable (no swimming for us, though). The woodwork and original elements are very special, and I feel lucky to have been able to experience them. Wonderful hosts also, very accommodating. I can think of nothing they could improve on.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

Located in Central Park Historic District, just 4 blocks to Hannibal's thriving Main Street and historic waterfront on the Mississippi River!

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

The Historic Eleanor Davis House is a Queen Anne Victorian home built in 1894 by Edward W. Herriman of Herriman Lumber. The millwork of each room was crafted of different exotic woods. Handcrafted ornate wood fretwork adorns the Front Hall, and entrances to the Living Room and Kitchen, which retain their original sliding doors. The doors and mouldings of the home have never been painted and can be experienced in their original state. Other fine details include the Front Porch with original baroque balusters, carved gables, entablature above paired colonnettes, ornamental corbels, beveled and leaded glass and a handcrafted staircase.

Eleanor Davis was a gifted pianist, composer and had a beautiful soprano voice. In 1922, she debuted at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, giving a vocal and piano recital of her own compositions. Eleanor and her mother Tully performed as a music duo in many venues in New York City with many distinguished musicians of the time. They hosted a national radio show that debuted in 1925 and continued for decades. Throughout her career, Eleanor composed more than 80 works for voice, piano, organ, strings and ensemble.

After Eleanor's death in 1973, the home sat vacant for many years and fell into a state of disrepair but was restored to its former beauty in 2023 by Architect Jim Smith and his wife Anneliesa. Formerly the Edward W. Herriman House, the home was renamed to honor Eleanor Davis, the Hannibal native and lifelong resident who achieved greatly in the music business as an educator, an opera singer and a rare woman composer of serious / classical music on the national stage.

Staying here offers the traveler in search of history a uniquely clear connection to Hannibal's past, its place in time and to the local culture – with modern amenities.
