Most Unique Vacation Home in St. John's!
Situated on the edge of The Narrows at the entrance to the Port of St. John’s, a beautiful and unique vacation home located in a former light keeper’s house at Fort Amherst - the site of the first lighthouse in Newfoundland and one of the most photographed sites in the province. This property is one of two vacation homes operated at the Fort Amherst Light Station. The head light keeper's residence is also available for rent, please visit our listing at vrbo #469496.
House completely renovated, beautifully and tastefully decorated. Two bedrooms (one with king-size bed and one with twin beds) each with flat screen TVs, pull out sofa bed, two full bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, BBQ, dishwasher, washer/dryer. Front deck with views of Signal Hill and the harbourfront. Sit back and watch the boats entering and leaving St. John’s Harbour. Enjoy whale watching from our large rear deck overlooking the spectacular Atlantic Ocean. Depending on the season lucky guests will have amazing views of icebergs along the coastline. Entrance point to the East Coast Trail just steps away.

This property is just as described. It is at Fort Amherst, adjacent to the lighthouse. The interior is exactly like the photos and details posted. No issues with the property at all. Peter provided the checkin details, detailed directions to the property and other tips to make the trip enjoyable. We were there the end of September and enjoyed the time there. Had activity around the area daily, saw the worker from the Coast Guard there every day, and on our last night there, the fog horn went off. We were able to tour St. John's and just see how beatiful it is.

It was a spectacular view that you couldn’t find anywhere else. However I think it is time for the host to do a few minor touch ups. Broken blinds etc. For safety reasons a rubber mat would be good in the shower and tub. The barbecue and the tank should be replaced. Unusable.

Wow...you couldn’t find a better location in St John's! The views were amazing! Everything about the house were fantastic...the beds, the showers, the furnishings. It was all so comfortable and inviting. Three of us stayed a week and loved every minute. We loved watching the shops sail in and out of the harbour every day. There was so much to see and do in the area. From lots of fantastic hiking, boat tours, musician kitchen parties and discovering the city itself! Plus the Newfoundlanders hospitality everywhere we went. We loved our stay!!

This is one of the most charming places we have ever stayed. The house is clean, comfortable and just as the photos show. It is very well equipped. The location is unique. We arrived after dark in the fog. The fog horn is directed out to sea, so although it does go off every 20 seconds, it is not a bother. The view on clear days is amazing! All the vessels from the harbor pass right by on their way out to sea. A trip to Signal Hill will give you a perfect vantage point to see the house and lighthouse from the other side of the harbor inlet. We wish we could have stayed longer.

The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. Everything was wonderful especially watching ships in the Harbour.

Beautiful views
Location and views were amazing. Enjoyed watching ships go by. We were very appreciative for early check in. Hosts were prompt and responsive.

We felt privileged to stay in this unique location. We most enjoyed the ships coming and going and meeting all sorts of folks who hike up the road for a view. The foghorn behaved during our trip and wasn't overly obtrusive.We were however disappointed in the cleanliness of the rental. Some windows have fuzzy mold growing on them (inside) and we actually cleaned the ones facing the lighthouse as the view was distorted from greasy hand and face prints. The couch and love seat are very worn nearly sink to the bottom which makes you lose the beautiful view.The bbq grill seemed rotted and unfit for use. I expected better quality for the price. The price clearly reflects the location. This is a well used rental. Upgrades needed to justify the price IMO.

Property managers were a great help & very responsive. The location and accommodations are second to none! We'll definitely come back!

Authentic place
Tastefully furnished, very well equipped. We spent 4 wonderful days in the house on the cliffs.

Family holiday
Sitting on the deck in the early morning and evening was better than any retreat you could ever attend. Serenity and total relaxation comes to mind.

What an excellent stay. Totally great property in an extremely unique and historic location. Kitchen well stocked, comfy living area, comfy beds and the best views ever. Good internet, nice deck area, and it was so fun talking to people coming to check out the lighthouse who were amazed that you could rent the place. We booked 14 months in advance when the listing was already 1/3 booked for the summer, get it early folks!
