Cabin on Porter Ranch

This was one of the first school houses up the creek in New Castle, and the only one preserved. It is comfy and has a nice deck for a fantastic view up the creek to the sunlight ski resort. It has family style sleeping upstairs and a futon down.

We welcome you and your pets to our first rental on the Ranch, and have listed another rental called the OGWG (off grid with goats) for rent on vrbo as well!! 492452
We offer a fantastic kitchen for the chef in you and please text Mary if you are wanting for any kitchen items... We are centrally located to a plethora of activities, flop at the Cabin and get away from it all! X country ski and snow shoe on our ranch in the winter, or soak in the famous Glenwood Hot springs or the newer Iron Mountain pools, climb in Rifle, hunt in Section 42, go to the play, ski Sunlight, Vail or Aspen, all are close! Grab some board games, relax in the glider. Life is good. We welcome you with open arms to our world. It is unique and simple, and you will love it.

Check-in was super easy, and Mary was very responsive. It's literally out in the middle of no where, so there is zero cell signal, but the cabin has great WiFi. Great for star gazing. Just sky is full of stars. Highly recommend!

The perfect mountain getaway!

This was such a wonderful vacation spot for us! You got all the experiences of being in a cabin in the mountains, with the conveniences of town within 15 minutes. Mary and Terri offer a slice of heaven.

Fantastic host on a private ranch

Mary was super friendly and extremely accommodating. We brought two kids and a dog and Mary made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We can't wait to return!

Perfect little cabin in a great location!

What a fun experience! We saw so much wildlife and got to feed the horse and chickens! The location was perfect to visit Glenwood and Rifle! We'll definitely be back!

Our new favorite!

Beautiful views and very comfortable lodging. We LOVED watching the elk and deer close by. The yard is fenced which our dogs loved being able to be loose in. Private country feel and just as perfect as we could have hoped for!

Perfect getaway

A friend and I stayed at the school house while we were hunting elk , what a wonderful experience we enjoyed it a lot and will be back. The owner Mary is a wonderful lady and always there to help and goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. Views of elk and mountains are gorgeous. Couldn’t be any happier with the stay .

Family vacation

Very beautiful area to stay. The cabin was perfect for what we needed. We were visiting Glenwood Springs and surrounding areas to hike. We brought our 2 dogs with us so this was a perfect place to stay to accommodate us. Mary was very friendly and helpful. I must say the morning sunrise is beautiful from the deck

What a great “Holiday Out”

I cannot say enough about how perfect this place was! The hosts are super responsive and the cabin has everything you need. Loved the front porch and fenced in yard for our pups. Watching the goats and the elk was incredible! Super easy drive too. Thanks so much!

Peaceful Get away

The Holiday Out was the perfect spot for a peaceful birthday getaway. It was relaxing to watch the goats, deer, elk, and other wildlife from the front porch. The upstairs air conditioning was wonderful as it would was pretty hot while we were there. The A/C allowed for a great nights sleep each night.

Private, Quiet and Clean

Mary was excellent and called ahead of time to help with directions. I knew she was there if we had questions, yet total privacy. Nice property, not too far from basic provisions in New Castle and restaurants, etc. In Glenwood Springs.

Mini vacation

Unique and special property. Loved watching the goats and having horses for neighbors. We had everything we needed and it was warm and cozy. Far enough away but close enough to hiking, dining and activities. Property owner was very responsive, friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again!

Terry was born to the ranch and this life. I married into it and we just never slowed down! We gave 2 cabins. And rv rental.
The goats are a full time job come April, and we also are custom hayers.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

We are so close to the hot springs, or our local's hot pots, as we call them, and really love the privacy and the solitude that we can offer to the world. we are minutes away from world class rock climbing as well, and have had climbers as far away as germany stay here for weeks. Please let us show you the elk pen cabin as well as this one, and NOW we are going underground! whooo a dull moment here! Also just found another school house, the mead school house... will be moving her up here as well!!
