Superior Horizon’s modern day Carriage House is the perfect destination for the traveler seeking comfort and relaxation. Whether you are an adventurist looking for a place to store all of your toys or the leisure enthusiast looking for peace and quiet, we have many amenities to offer both. Our fully furnished 2 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath cabin offers a full sized attached garage with enough space to store kayaks, bikes, motorcycles and even your truck. Located just one mile north of Bayfield, Wisconsin and nestled on 10 beautiful acres of rolling woods, you will be secluded, yet minutes away from great shopping and restaurants. We have 70+ Five Star Reviews and have been selected 2012's Best Vacation Rental in Bayfield!

This vacation rental caters to the adventurers that like to bring their equipment with them but hate to have to keep it with them where ever they go. Also to the persons that like to have a quiet wooded park-like setting on 10 acres with a jogging/hiking trail, and yet be within walking or riding distance to downtown.

Thank you so much for your incredible property! John met us as we drove in. He took us on a brief tour of the place and showed us how to work the heat and air. He also went out of his way to get us crockpot to use! He gave us great directions to avoid the festival traffic too. All in all we had a great time at the perfect location!

Amazing Barndominium!

This house and its owner are simply the best. I was able to park my car inside the garage that opened into the lower level. The house was exceptionally clean and in a great location! Thank you John for being the perfect host!

Wonderful time

My husband and I stayed at this cabin with another couple. We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean, and it was stocked with everything you would need. The owner of the cabin is right next door and is really friendly. He was always available if we had any questions about the cabin or the area. We will definitely be back.

Peaceful and Perfect for our long weekend

Cozy and quiet

The property was wonderfully quiet. Seeing a bear eating in the wild from the safety of John’s deck was a big highlight. This property is also super close to Bayfield. But not so close you get the noise. Highly recommend

Great little cabin with a fantastic owner!

This cabin is the perfect size for 2 to 4 adults. There were three of us and we were quite comfortable. John is an exceptional host. We are hikers and he gave us some great suggestions for hikes. One day he took us in his boat to Stockton Island and we did a 4 mile hike that had spectacular views. I highly recommend this property.

Comfortable stay

The Superior Horizons Carriage House was one of the most comfortable stays we have had. John, the owner, was helpful and greeted us on arrival. He also has great knowledge of the area. The property was close to Bayfield (less than a 5 minute drive) making it easy for a day out on the Apostle Islands. We greatly enjoyed the accommodations.

Thanks for a great stay!

Superior Horizons was the perfect choice for our stay in Bayfield. It is close to downtown Bayfield, but tucked away and quiet. The accommodations were as listed . . . the kitchen had everything we needed, the bed was very comfortable, and John was available if we needed anything (we did not need to contact him during our stay). We will definitely stay at Superior Horizons again the next time we're in the Bayfield area.

Bayfield getaway

We had a wonderful stay the Superior Horizons Carriage House. John was a fantastic host. He met us upon arrival and walked through the place with us. He was great at providing recommendations and tips that only the locals know. It was so nice to have a garage to park our car in. The property is beautiful! We really appreciated John's hospitality and highly recommend staying here!

Wonderful property

Everything about our stay was great, from the cleanliness of the cabin to the friendliness of the host. It was a perfect place to spend time with old friends and relax. We felt like we were in the middle of the forest instead of at the end of a long driveway. Being just a few minutes drive from Bayfield made it quite convenient. The furniture and mattresses were comfortable. There was a good selection of DVDs to choose from for movies in the evening. The only suggestion I have would be to put some towel racks or hooks in the downstairs bathroom to dry bath towels after showering.

Pretty Place, Nice Owner

Carriage house sits back from the road on a beautifully landscaped wooded property . The owner lives next door and greets you and shows you the house upon arrival. John is available for any questions. The clothes washer broke during our stay and John washed our clothes at his house without us even asking. The cottage is beautifully decorated in a north woods theme and was very clean. The garage, one bedroom, and half bath are on the first floor with the second bedroom, a 3/4 bath, living area and kitchen on the 2nd floor. This rental wound not be suitable for those with mobility issues as the stairs to the 2nd floor are rather steep. Also there is no dining table, just some stools next to the kitchen counter. It takes only a few minutes to drive to downtown Bayfield. Enjoyed our stay.

Definitely recommend!

We loved our stay at this property. The location was ideal - just 1.5 miles north of Bayfield. The property is set back from the highway, so it was quiet and peaceful. Everything was provided as listed. The host, John was quick to respond to any questions.

John is retired from the Houston Police Department where he served for 28 years. He joined the force in 1982 and after 4 years of working Patrol, he joined the SWAT Team and remained with that division until his retirement in 2010. John has worked with Secret Service and other dignitary protection groups serving four presidents and numerous high profile individuals. He has a thorough understanding of one’s privacy and security and strives to ensure it.

John Murphy is no stranger to the north. John was actually born in Racine, Wisconsin and grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan in Muskegon, Michigan. After 30 years in the big city, it was time to retire. While John was vacationing in Northern Wisconsin, one of the locals suggested visiting Bayfield; so headed north to the city of Bayfield. Within the first few minutes of arriving, John knew he was back “Up North”; quaint shops; islands; friendly residents; and, of course, the big water - Lake Superior. It was like coming home. With sights set high, John headed back to Houston, sold his home and moved to Bayfield in August of 2010. Their new home and Carriage House Rental is situated on 10 beautifully wooded acres just one mile north of town.

Located on 10 wooded acres with a 1/2 mile hike/jog trail that runs along the property with it's own creek. John has assorted wildlife on the property including Black Bear, Bobcat, Deer, Coyote, Wolf, Raccoon, and Fox. The Carriage house is equipped with all the comforts of home and if you need any special requests, we can have it for you in minutes. You will have a 600 sq ft heated garage where you can store your equipment instead of being one of the many unfortunate visitors that have to keep all their toys on or attached to the vehicles. Located next to the Apostle Islands which is controlled by the National Park Service. You will find Seacaves along the islands and mainland. Kayaking, canoeing and boating is a lifetime experience along the Islands. You can paddle to one of the 21 islands and hike or even camp in areas pristine with nature and solitude.
After experiencing the thousands of acres of nature; walk, ride or drive one mile into town and shop at all the shops or eat at one of many restaurants while looking over Lake Superior and the islands. Want more culture?? Take in a show at the Big Top Chautauqua or at Stage North. You will see famous performers as well as our local artists. Don't forget the Bayfield Apple Festival or the Dog Sled Races or the Bayfield in Bloom or the Fall Harvest Celebration or the Blessing of the Fleet or 'whew!'
