The Heron House is simply amazing. It has every amenity you could think of, especially the kitchen! The house was perfect for our family vacation of 3 generations!

Family of 6 stayed here for 4 nights. Plenty of room. Beautiful home with expansive lake view. Covered, screened-in porch was fantastic. Beautiful and updated home/kitchen that was well stocked. My wife really appreciated the wine glasses! Brand new landscaping added a nice touch. Water off of the dock is fairly shallow. Still deep enough for boating, but careful diving. We would definitely stay here again.

Lake life

I have been vacationing at SML for over 20 years. This is the first time I booked the same house in fact I committed even before I left. A total turn key vacation where every detail was perfect. Kid friendly and a great location on the lake. I can not wait to go back next year

Family vacation 2025

Heron House was the perfect vacation spot for our family, spanning ages from 2 months to 75 years. The spacious layout gave everyone plenty of room to relax, and the screened-in porch quickly became our favorite hangout for evening games. “Fully stocked” doesn’t even begin to describe it—the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare big family meals, and the abundance of beach towels and floaties was such a thoughtful touch. We spent our days tubing, jet skiing, and swimming, and made memories we’ll treasure. We can’t wait to come back!

Wonderful Experience at the Heron House

In many ways, the Heron House was an excellent decision. This location was a great choice because it is so close to the Bridgewater Marina and local shopping. Additionally, this house was perfect for my family because of its well-appointed choices and well-equipped amenities. Every detail has been attended to including an impressively stocked first aid kit.The home has a serene atmosphere, and the breathtaking views and sunsets added to the enjoyment of our stay. My girls tried kayaking for the first time and loved the privacy near the dock. Outside, we enjoyed the amazing upper-level screened porch and seized the chance to play games as a family.Inside, the house is meticulously maintained and impressively immaculate. It exceeded my expectations, and we were grateful for the quality.Beyond this, and very importantly, the owners are gracious, kind, and highly responsive to questions or requests.Kudos!! We can’t wait to return to the Heron House

Great family lake house rental. The house was very clean and modern furnishings. There was a recent full renovation and it is well cared for. Highly recommended.

My family and I had a wonderful week at the Heron House! We ranged in age from 4-76, and the house met everyone’s needs perfectly! The beds were super comfy, the kitchen was the best stocked kitchen of any we’ve experienced, and my grandson loved the playroom!! We all enjoyed eating our meals at the large dining table on the screened in porch. Having the second living space downstairs was perfect for those who wanted to stay up late without disturbing anyone. Having firewood supplied by the owner made enjoying the fire pit super easy! The location of the house was perfect! It was off the beaten path, so it was quite peaceful! The water level was low due to the drought which actually allowed some beach area for my grandson to play and access the water. Even with the low water we were still able to rent and dock a pontoon boat for daily excursions on the lake. I think the highlight of the week was watching my grandson waving down the ice cream boat each morning from the dock!! Breakfast dessert!! The owners were very responsive and helpful.

Our family has dreamed of owning a lake house for many years, and we feel so fortunate to have finally made that dream a reality! We have two teenage boys, and we live full-time in Durham, North Carolina. Smith Mountain Lake is such a special place for our family, and we are thrilled to share it with yours so that you can also experience the magic of Heron House!

Our neighborhood is peaceful, wooded, and full of lovely neighbors--many of which live there full-time. We also appreciate the convenience to local stores and restaurants.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

Our lot is located at the beginning of a cove, which means incredible views but also safety for swimming. Our home is perfectly set up for families--we have five bedrooms (one with a crib and changing table), four bathrooms, and multiple gathering spaces. Our playroom is always a hit with the little ones! All hardscaping and landscaping has been completely redone as of Spring 2026, including a flagstone patio with a built in fire-pit, leveled grassy areas for yard games, and new walkways around the house and to the lake for easy access.
