Waterfront: Classic Renovated 'Up North' Log Cabin on Sandy Beach Sleeps 12

Bayshore Log Cabin is a unique vacation home, offering the ultimate 'Up North' experience; it is the perfect combination of a classic, rustic log home and a beachfront paradise. It is large enough to accommodate an extended family or several smaller families in total comfort, while reflecting the simplicity of its gorgeous natural surroundings and times gone by. The Cabin is nestled in the woods, where animal and bird life abounds, and opens onto a wide sandy beach directly on the bay, where every type of water activity can be enjoyed from morning to night. The Cabin was extensively renovated in 2010, including the installation of new baths, kitchen, plumbing, water softener, furnace, appliances and light fixtures, to provide upscale, modern comforts and amenities, while still retaining the Cabin’s original rustic character and charm. A vacation at the Cabin will create memories that last a lifetime: of spending endless carefree hours at the beach and in the water by day, and gathering together in the evenings for indoor or outdoor dining, games, or a roaring beach fire.
Located between the charming villages of Northport and Omena on Michigan’s beautiful Leelanau Peninsula, this large and carefully appointed log home is situated directly on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay, with 240 feet of private, wide sandy beach in a secluded wooded setting. Enjoy blissful days filled with sunning, swimming, boating, skiing, beach-combing, outdoor cooking, and spending true quality time with your family and friends. From the Cabin, you will have a perfect view of stunning sunrises over the water each morning, and the colors of the sunset reflecting off the bay on tranquil evenings. The wooded, 5 acre lot provides a sense of pleasant seclusion, screened from neighbors on either side.
This beautiful log home has expansive indoor living spaces with a vaulted ceiling and a magnificent two-story natural stone fireplace. The Cabin is decorated with comfortable high quality upholstered furniture appropriate to its rustic style, carefully selected antique pieces, rustic light fixtures & rugs, and curtains custom made with vintage-style fabrics.
The great room has multiple sitting areas for gathering around the fire, reading, or, for those who are so inclined, watching TV. The adjacent enclosed sunroom has windows on three sides that frame a picture perfect view of the bay and “Gull Island.” The sunroom is furnished with reupholstered antique rattan furniture, and has additional comfortable seating as well as a game table for puzzles, and board games. The sunroom opens to an outdoor deck on the bay side, and has tables for outdoor dining with a spectacular view. We provide two grills, one gas and one charcoal, for your outdoor cooking and dining needs.
The remodeled kitchen features custom-built and hand-painted cabinets with wrought iron hardware and fir counter-tops, along with a butcher block island. It has a new five-burner gas range, a new dishwasher, and a new sink and fixtures. Like the rest of the house, the kitchen is lighted with electrified wall and hanging lanterns, and decorated with vintage collectables. The adjacent pantry houses the refrigerator, and a brand new high-efficiency washer and dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped with numerous small appliances, colorful dinnerware for indoors and out, and quality cookware for preparing and serving gourmet meals for a large gathering. The spacious dining area has a 9-foot farmhouse table which seats 10-12, and a rustic buffet. Additional seating is available at the nearby gate-leg table in the adjacent living room.
With four bedrooms including a large bunkroom and a queen sleeper, the home sleeps 12 people very comfortably, and is perfect for a large or extended family, or several smaller families. The spacious master bedroom, which is on the main floor of the Cabin, has a queen sized bed and a view of the lake. It has a private bath with a tub/shower combination, and has been completely remodeled with slate floors, subway and pebble tile, a custom built cedar vanity, and all new plumbing and fixtures. Two additional bedrooms on the second floor each have double beds, and share a second full bath, also newly renovated. All bedrooms feature quality beds, linens, curtains, rugs, colorful quilts and are furnished with charming antiques. Upstairs is a large bunkroom that sleeps eight. It is furnished with hand crafted rustic cedar log furniture, and has colorful quilts and curtains with a north woods theme. The bunkroom features colorful vintage style flooring and a half bath.
The Cabin is located on a beautiful sandy beach, complete with a dock and swimming ladder. With a gradual slope and crystal clear water, the beach is an ideal place for children to safely enjoy the beach and lake. Only the deck and spacious yard -- perfect for croquet or horseshoes -- separates the house from the beach. No climbing down dunes or stairs or navigating winding paths. Beach chairs, beach towels, and 2 kayaks (one is a tandem) for exploring the bay are provided. The sandy cove invites long strolls in search of Petoskey stones and other treasures.
After a day on the beach, you can enjoy the enclosed cedar outdoor shower. The home is on a cove in Grand Traverse Bay, with calmer waters, making it perfect for small craft boating and skiing. In the evening, enjoy the colors of the sunset reflecting off the bay, and gather around a beach fire (we have a fire pit on the beach and provide a supply of firewood).
The fantastic “Up North” experience does not end with summer. Enjoy spectacular foliage, biking, golfing, hiking, and wine tasting while making this charming log home your home base during the color season, at attractive rates. Our home is just a few miles from some of the most popular Leelanau Peninsula wineries, and is the perfect home base for winery tours.
It is also a story-book place to celebrate the holidays or spend a winter ski weekend. Nestled in the woods, you can snuggle in with the family, cook up your holiday feast, and gather round a roaring fire. We are only a half hour drive from family friendly cross country and downhill skiing at the Homestead, and Crystal Mountain is just over an hour away.

Wonderful weekend!

This cabin is beautiful inside, outside, and has an amazing view! We had a girl's weekend and the weather did not cooperate but we had such a good time because the cabin has everything you need. Highly recommended for any kind of beach vacation, and maybe some wine tasting!

Beautiful house and location!

This house has been wonderfully restored by the current owners and is absolutely beautiful. The kithen is fully furnished, beach towels by the back door, great outdoor shower, games for a rainy day, everything you need for a great Michigan vacation. And the owners are easy to deal with, responding quickly to repairs or problems. We are going back next summer.

Well appointed and great views

This was our first time in the Northport area, and we loved the Bayshore Cabin! We had everything we needed, and really didn't have to leave the property at all, except for extra supplies. We had a great family volleyball tournament, swam in the lake, went into Northport and to Suttons Bay to visit the breweries, and had great home-cooked meals each night. Everyone loved the outdoor shower too. I look forward to future trips here.

Away from it all!!

This is the fifth year my family has rented a home in northern Michigan. Finally, we have found the home to return to next year! The home was warm and inviting, it was so difficult to leave on our last day. The beach was perfect, and the grounds were peaceful and quiet. The owners went above and beyond to make sure our stay would be perfect. We are already looking forward to next summer!

Beautiful place!

We rented the property for our family when we were Traverse City for a wedding. it was absolutely perfect. It is a beautiful house on a beautiful piece of land. The beach is wonderful. The house is very large, comfortable and "homey". It is very well equipped and had everything we needed to serve a dinner for almost 20 people one night. I would absolutely recommend it to friends and we plan on renting it again sometime.

CAN WE PLEASE COME BACK FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER? (please?)

Our family has been coming to Glen Lake/Northport area for 35 summers! We discovered the cabin two years ago and will never stay anywhere else! Our young boys LOVE the bunkbed room, our older boys love private setting and access to the beach, my husband loves that he can bring the dogs, I love that everything is immaculate when we get there and that the kitchen has anything I could possibly need to cook. We have as much fun at the cabin in the winter as we do in the summer! The sledding hill in Northport was a blast!

Wonderful place to stay near Northport

Our group of 6 adults and 8 children had a fantastic time at this beautiful cabin on Grand Traverse Bay. We had stayed at the cabin a year earlier and the updates were great! The half-bath upstairs was a great addition to the kids' bunk room. The kids really enjoyed the outdoor shower as well. It was great to have use of the kayaks. We kayaked out to Gull Island which was really fun. The property was very well-maintained and had everything we needed. The owner was great to work with and answered all of our questions promptly. We will definitely return!

Great updates to the cabin.

We have been coming up to this area for many years. This is our second year at the log cabin. The changes that were made in just one year were amazing. The cabin is very clean and all the updates kept the feel of a cabin. The kitchen is beautiful and the extra half bath upstairs is a great addition. It is a very welcoming and comfortable place. The area is great for biking and the views are worth the trip alone. We have already decided to return to the cabin next year.

Complete Bliss!

If you are looking for a gorgeous setting, a thoughtfully planned home, a place that is close to some of the most beautiful beaches-dunes and walks in the woods available in the US...this is the place for you. Holly and Andy are gracious and helpful-their home has a secluded feel, yet there are friendly neighbors on the other side of the woods. The place was perfect for our 2 small children as there is no bluff-the water is shallow-and there is a grassy lawn with plenty of toys and seating. The house is the perfect combination of rustic and elegant. The sunrises are breathtaking and the community of Northport reminded us of our years in New England-small towns with lovely people. We will be back!

Amazing week!

What a wonderful place to stay. We had our family union there the 4th of July week. Upon our arrival the owner greeted us. She walked us throughout the house and made us feel comfortable. There was a book provided with everything you needed to know about the house and the area. We couldn't have been more pleased. The setting was charming, we had a fawn visit us many times. The sun rises were breathtaking. The house was furnished and decorated very nicely and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. We sat around the campfire everynight, fire wood was plentiful. Kayak's were furnished and everyone thoroughly enjoyed going to see Gull Island and just had a good time. The entire week was AWESOME!

The perfect quintessential "up north" cabin!

We have finally have found THE house for us! We'll definitely be coming back. The photos are just how it looks and it was spotless when we arrived. We stayed here with three families total. The bunk room is great with 4 large bunk beds and a half bath. The house is very spacious and can accomodate a large group without feeling crowded, so even rainy days are not a problem! The kitchen is really well equipped with anything a cook could need. The water is so clear and great for swimming and boating. The large outdoor deck is a favorite spot with a great view of the water, hammock, large yard and fire pit. The location is ideal with Northport, Leland, Omena and Suttons Bay all easily accessible. There are also quite a number of trails and hiking spots near by. The beds are really comfortable, too! We highly recommend this place!

Happy Place

We spent two nights at this cabin and it was beautiful and well-appointed. The pictures don't do it justice as the living room/kitchen are grand. We loved the decor and best described as "cheerful;" there is just a very good vibe in this home. It is truly a wonderful log home, inside and out and we loved that. The location was convenient to many places. I especially liked Red Mullein in Northport which had an amazing selection of kimonos. The lighthouse was a great place to visit with a beautiful view. The owners are very thorough with their contract, instructions, etc. and the property was well-maintained and clean. I have already recommended this property to others. The access to the beach and availability of kayaks was great. Three members of our group kayaked to the island and had a wonderful time. Sitting around the campfire at night was also a plus. We would love to return sometime.

Bayshore Log Cottage

Bayshore log cottage is a family favorite. We have been coming here for the past three years and have reserved again for next year. The home is the quintessential up north cottage of my childhood. With coffee in hand, I sit on the dock each morning and watch the sunrise over Gull Island--a priceless memory. A great vacation place especially with small children. The water is shallow enough near the dock for little ones to stay safe. Yet, older ones can enjoy going out in the kayaks and swimming in the beautiful waters. My family loves to play volleyball in the spacious yard. Very comfortable and roomy cottage in a tranquil setting. Everything provided for one to have a great time. Rainy day? --lots of places to visit: wineries, lighthouse, dunes, plus shopping in nearby towns-- or just enjoy a quiet day relaxing around the cottage reading or playing some of the games provided. We can't wait to return!

Grand Traverse Bliss

This is a wonderful property in every way. The Great Room is furnished and flows to maximum utility for a large or small group. The kitchen could not be stocked better with plenty of Fiestaware, good knives, pots, pans, stemware, and linens. Laundry equipment is newer and capacious. In even more expensive previous accommodations, we were required to schlep our own towels, sheets, and comforters -- having them plentifully provided was a pleasure. All was clean and fresh. There are lots of books, dvds, and information about area attractions and services. The on-call manager was very pleasant and obviously takes pride in her responsibilities. The setting is private, down a long lane, the house surrounded by trees. The crystal clear, gradual slope lakefront is just a few steps from the huge deck with gas grill. And the outside shower, complete with hot water, was great for dog (and people) rinsing. A true home away from home, there isn't anything to improve upon with this vacation property.

Great Location, Great Cabin!

This cabin was everything we hoped for and more! We were happily surprised with everything it had to offer and would love to go back again next year! The cabin was rustic but charming, very nicely decorated, clean and well maintained. The beds were clean and comfortable with good quality pillows and linens and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you might need. The views were awesome and the water was crystal clear, sandy beach and all. We had 10 in our group and we felt that we had plenty of space, the kids loved playing volleyball and exploring the yard and the water in the kayaks and the rowboat that was provided. What stands out about this property is that the owners really went the extra mile! There were plenty of activities provided including croquet, fishing equipment, brand new board games that were nice on a rainy day, beach toys and good quality life vests for all ages. We loved the hammock and the outdoor shower. In addition there was enough fire wood for a campfire every night, and even though we brought necessities such as laundry soap, trash bags and dish soap, we were surprised to see that all this was provided. The owners are very personable and eager to please. We loved the location of this cabin, it was peaceful and quiet but also close to several great restaurants and activities unique to northern Michigan.

Our group does a lot of cooking and the kitchen is very nicely equipped. Great dining table and great room. We absolutely love the outdoor shower. You couldn't ask for a better rental.

Summer Family Gathering at the Northport Log Cabin!

Our week at the Log Cabin served as a gathering place for our children and their families. We found all the amenities perfect for our week together. The children enjoyed playing on the beach, taking kayak rides and of course swimming! Evening campfires along with a night where we used the beautiful field stone fireplace brought our family much laughter and joy as we spent the week together! The kitchen and dining area served our family well and we ate together on the outdoor deck often. The kids loved the bunk room and all slept well after full days of activity which included day trips to Leland, Sleeping Bear, Suttons Bay and of course Northport and 'Barb's Bakery'! Thank you for making this a most memorable week!

The cabin was fantastic, the amenities provided were perfect, and the location couldn't be better, but the best part of the rental was working with the owners. It was a pleasure to work with them and we will definitely be back!

As a small child, I (Holly) vacationed every summer at my grandmother's rustic and charming fishing cabin on Seven Pines Road in Northport. I have indelible memories of carefree days, roaming the beach, frolicking in the bay, exploring the beautiful woods, gorging on fresh berries, and staying up very late near a blazing beach fire. When I went away to school, I looked forward to bringing friends from far away to this special place. My now-husband Andy was one of them, and he loves Northport as much as I do. Every summer since we were married we have gone there, first just the two of us with our books and bicycles, and later with our five children. Although we have had the good fortune to have traveled to many places, Northport remains our very favorite place on the planet.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

This property provides a unique 'up North' experience. The Cabin is a rustic but comfortable gem, surrounded by beautiful woods, and situated on a wonderful sandy beach. It reminds us of the cabin where we spent so many years when our children were growing up. It doesn't get much better than this for a family vacation on the Leelanau Peninsula.
