Delighted to return

We spent a few days here on an earlier trip and knew right away that we wanted to come back. The cottage has a wonderful view of the ocean and is a comfortable place to read, cook, and relax. Everything is very clean, and the beds are comfortable. Our daughter was sorry to leave at the end of our stay.

Functional not Fancy

This property location was a perfect spot for going places. We drove to the beach for sunset, to the botanic gardens, and to the court house. The one thing that we worked around is no dish washer. So cooking everyday for the family just had a slight hassle afterwards.

Weekend Getaway

The cottage is cute and pleasantly decorated. The king bed in the room downstairs was extremely comfortable. The only drawback was the musty smell when we first arrived which can be common for homes near the ocean. After opening the windows upstairs the smell dissipated a bit.

My favorite place

This was our 7th visit to the Summerland Cottage. It fits my husband and I perfectly. I love everything about the location and the beach cottage. We feel like we're coming home.

Some mustiness, and sharing with a neighbour.

Cute cottage and comfortable beds, kitchen is well stocked and has proper coffee making equipment - do go to the local coffee shop though, it is excellent. There was a strong musty smell, especially the bedroom on entry to the property. We could not work out the source of the smell - maybe the rugs? We did want to use the advertised washer and dryer, and were surprised to find some wet laundry in the washer - maybe this has happened before, and is creating the odour. We were also a little put out that our washing and drying was taken out and replaced with someone else's, we presume by the tenant who is in a space in the back yard.

Lovely stay!

This Summerland beach cottage is everything as advertised. The house was perfect for 2 couples - very cozy and all the amenities we needed. Perfect location to be able to walk into town and enjoy Summerland, and an easy drive to anything Santa Barbara. The host Ian was also a great communicator and provided a lot of really good local recommendations. Overall would highly recommend!

Great ocean view

We really enjoyed the town of Summerland. This property is a bit quirky but we liked it for the most part. Front door opens to king size bed...then some very steep small stairs take you to the main living area and bathroom. Very clean and the views can't be beat! Would definitely stay again.

lovely & spacious home

This was a beautiful home located in a very convenient spot in Summerland, a walkable distance to the beach and all of the shops. The space was bright and airy, and more spacious than what I had expected based on the photos. The beds were so comfy and Ian was very responsive and accommodating! We had to get our own tea and coffee, but otherwise, it was a perfect spot for a mini getaway!

The perfect beach getaway

My friends and I have stayed at this lovely cottage two years in a row now. It's in a great location to walk to all the Summerland businesses and beach, and a very short distance to SB! We hope to be back!

Weekend getaway

Great location everything is so close restaurants,coffee shops and you can walk to the beach in five minutes also have all the amenities that we where looking for, Definitely will stay in this cottage again.

Cozy, comfortable cottage

My daughter, husband and I found this property to be a wonderful base for exploring the Santa Barbara area. The unit is clean and comfortable and has good lighting for reading. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the living room is a great place to relax and take in the view of the ocean. We hope to stay here again in the future!

Needs air purifier

The place is in desperate need of air no problem purifiers upstairs and downstairs. The airborne particulates can be cut with a knife. Air purifiers would probably solve this, but they were nonexistent. Also, the unit is marketed with the outdoor area and fire pit but you can’t really use it as it’s directly in front of another rental unit above it’s unavailable for the lower unit which we rented.

A Little Buyer's Remorse

The Summerland listing opens with a pic of the patio area. That really drew me in. I could see my husband and myself enjoying grilling and having a cocktail there. I should have looked more closely at other reviews because that is NOT private, and in fact, upstairs from the house shared with what looks like a permanent resident. That should be clearly stated in the advertisement of the property. I thought VRBO's were inherently a vacation rental you had all to yourself. Not so with this house. I'm a private person, and did not feel comfortable hanging out in the outdoor patio area; had I known, I would not have chosen this rental.

Great Place

We stayed at this place for 2 nights and it was perfect for us. Amazing location right near town and walk to Summerland beach took us 5 minutes. Very close to downtown Santa Barbara and adorable setup inside. Would definitely stay here again.

3 day family trip in Santa Barbara

Charming small house with enough place for a family of 5. Santa Barbara and beaches are easy to access by car. Nice street with restaurants and coffee shops in waking distance. Great host, communicating everything needed proactively.

Nice Getaway

Fit our needs perfectly for a few days of down time. Comfortable and well located...short ride (or long walk) to the park and beach. would have liked the patio to be more user friendly...a working umbrella for shade.

Cozy & quiet

Had a cozy & quiet weekend stay in Summerland for wedding. Very comfortable bed downstairs. A little chilly (May gray), but heaters helped. Recommend for couple, or family w/ kids.

charming cottage with ocean views

We loved this house! My husband, dog, and I stayed at the house for a long weekend and enjoyed our stay. You enter the house into the bedroom on the first floor. It's spacious with a king-sized bed and the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. That thing was like a cloud. Upstairs is the kitchen, living room area, and bathroom. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed and the bathroom was larger than I expected. You can see the ocean from the windows in the living area. There's a little freeway noise with the windows open, but not loud enough for us to close them. I did not contact the owner while we were at the house because we didn't have any problems, but he provided detailed information about the house before our trip and answered all of my questions. I had never been to Summerland before this trip but fell in love with it. The cottage is a short walk from a coffee shop, restaurant, and winery, and all were fantastic. All of the locals were super friendly. Santa Barbara is only about 10 minutes down the road. We found both Summerland and Santa Barbara to be very dog friendly and welcoming to our pup. As others have mentioned, the stairs in the cottage are steep, but we didn't have any problems with them (including my 60lb dog). Parking is on the street but we were able to park right in front of the door the entire time we were there. We absolutely loved this place and hope to stay here again. Highly recommend.
