Boy if I could count how many times I have heard that one. It does take a bit to know what to do with yourselves without the technology but boy how important that is and people don't realize it until they try it. Anna, Thank you for the kind words and we are happy you enjoyed your stay. Yes, open shotgun season is always the Thursday - Sunday before and after Thanksgiving every year. You would have to check the dnr.il website to see if they have any other weekends planned out for it. Sometimes they will open another weekend.

Thank you for the kinds words. Sorry you weren't able to hike. Hiking is why a good majority of people come to this area all winter long, especially to see the iced waterfalls at Starved Rock and Matthiessen Park. You just can't hike during shot gun season for deer which is always the Thursday - Sunday before and after Thanksgiving. Sometimes the state opens up a third season but you can always get that information by searching Illinois shotgun deer season on-line. Prime eagle watching time is January - February.
