Historic Property close to South Beach and downtown - Upper Unit

The Indiana School will be your home-base for family fun. The schoolhouse is 2 blocks from Kids Corner park, 3 blocks from the blue stairs access to South Beach, and 7 blocks from downtown restaurants and shopping. The upper unit has 3 themed bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and sleeps 8 comfortably. The massive great room provides plenty of space for families to spread out and play foosball. The Media Center has space for watching TV and playing games. The large front yard gives your family more time to play in the sun. A propane grill and fire pit with seating is available for your use. There is plenty of parking on the property.

For large families, this unit can be combined with the lower unit for an additional 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, TV room, and another huge great room with pool table. Rent the whole house for a week your family will never forget. See VRBO #858557.

Built in 1898, the Indiana School served as an elementary school until 2005. The schoolhouse underwent extensive remodeling in 2006. Many of the original finishes have been preserved including chalk boards, transom doors, wood paneling, and teacher's closets. Updates, painting, and all new furnishings were done in 2016. New windows, brick restoration, exterior painting, and heating/cooling improvements were made in 2023-24. The Indiana School has been designated as a historical site by the State of Michigan. The schoolhouse is truly a unique home.

Our summer weekly rentals run FRIDAY to FRIDAY. Check-in time is 4:00pm. Check-out time is 10:00am.

PLEASE NOTE there are 3 flights of stairs to access the living space for this unit.

Another Great Stay

Friends and I love staying at the Indiana School and this new stay was terrific. The “School” is always spotless, has well stocked kitchen, comfy chairs & coach, games, off street parking, garage space, etc. Plenty of space for us to gather AND space for solo time. It’s so easy to walk to the beach and quick drive to area orchards and other venues. Access information was clear and check-out tasks were few and easy.

End of summer getaway for our family

Our family had a wonderful stay at this amazing property. The schoolhouse was not only unique, it was furnished and decorated beautifully. Our granddaughter absolutely loved the chalkboards and all the games. We also appreciated the big gathering rooms so we could all hang out together. This property also has very nice amenities - everything you’d need to make your stay feel like home. We would definitely book again when staying in South Haven. Location was perfect to the beach or to downtown. Thanks for wonderful memories!

Great Stay in South Haven!

We absolutely loved our week in South Haven and our stay at the school. The unit was clean and so spacious - our kids loved the chalkboards, the foosball table and the bunk beds. Location was fantastic - we loaded up a wagon for the few block walk to the beach, and walked into the cute downtown for dinner and ice cream every night. Bowling on a rainy day and Lake Arvesta water park were fun outings - but we mainly just soaked in the beach and gorgeous sunsets! Owners were helpful with questions ahead of time and so kind and friendly when we happened to meet them on-site. A great week - already planning our return trip!

Family VACAY to South Haven

The accommodations at the Indiana school were perfect. This is our 3rd stay and each trip has been better and better. It was spacious, clean, comfortable with an excellent location. It is within walking distance to the beach and downtown. There is a 2 car garage for our cars and bikes, and a lovely outdoor area with lawn for the kids to play in, a beautiful garden, large outdoor eating area, gas grills and fire pits. I would recommend the Indiana School to everyone and hope we can visit again.

Love the School House

This was our third stay at the School House and it was just as great as our first. Such a fun and unique place. Great location, always very clean, and room for everyone to have their own space (we had 8 adults and 9 kids and reserved both units).

Excellent Rental in South Haven for Families

We have stayed in the Schoolhouse several times, but always in the lower unit. This year we had extended family join us and rented both units, which worked out perfectly! The upper unit was just as wonderful as the lower one, and we enjoyed our stay as always. The location is perfect, being able to walk to the beach, the park, and downtown with small children is ideal for our family. The rental is equiped with everything we needed, especially in the kitchen. The Schoolhouse is hands down our favorite rental in South Haven!

Family reunion / 4th of July

By far the best rental available in South Haven/South Beach, with the flexibility to easily handle a variety of family sizes. Great owners that had the home fully stocked and with bonus amenities, easy check in/check out process, and phenomenal communication throughout. Truly the crown jewel of a memorable vacation!!

South Haven 2024 Vacation

This is a wonderful property. Great space, good location and responsive property managers. It is about a 5 block walk to the South Beach. Very doable. Take note: there are lots of stairs to enter. Good exercise but a little hard for those older. Lots of open space indoors. Outdoors was limited on the property but that was completely ok. The kids and grownups loved the chalkboards throughout the property! Great memories were made here.

South Haven Escape

The Indiana School was everything I imagined it would be as I read the description while looking for VRBO's. It was so close to everything and in such a beautiful neighborhood. It was more than enough room for our family of 5. Enough lounge around space, lots of seating at the dining room table, plenty of games and things to do if it were to be a rainy day. We walked to the lake everyday, we shopped downtown and took a sunset cruise. And enjoyed Lake Arvesta for family fun! Perfect vacation!

Perfect family spot

We could not be happier with our stay at the school house! It's a perfect place for adults and kids of all ages. The pictures don't properly show how spacious this unit really is. The great room is HUGE, with a well-stocked kitchen for cooking, and games for having family fun, plus chalkboards everywhere. The bedrooms all have very nice darkening shades, and great firm mattresses. Location wise, it's a short walk to Kid's Corner park (which is amazing), and the beach. It's also a close walk downtown. We would absolutely stay here again in the future. The hosts are great, and so is the unit!

Quick Weekend

This property is beautiful and great for families! We had a great time shopping and coming back to relax and play games. Plenty of space. Easily walkable to South Haven's main drag. Overall great experience.

Another great time in South Haven

We have stayed here consistently each fall. It's a unique and lovely place to stay. It is large and will suit bigger groups, but still feels very cozy. The owners are very pleasant and the town feels like home away from home.

Pals Weekend

We were so glad to find this unique schoolhouse for our Pals weekend! Nicely decorated bedrooms, beds were super comfy, dining and living room are very large with great space to hangout. And a huge master bedroom with king bed and private bath. well appointed and super clean. Chalkboard in every room, very charming! So close to the beaches and shopping. Definitely recommend it and we will come back!

Together time

Overall great property. Clean. Well-stocked. Nice mix of modern amenities and old schoolhouse charm. Loved the chalkboards! The location is super! Quick walk to the beach, playground (a big one) or downtown, but out of the hustle and bustle of a lot of people. Grocery store (which has a little bit of everything) is about a five minute drive. Owners were wonderful to work with. We had a chance to simply chat with them about how they came to find the house, future plans, etc. It rained during our entire stay, so we did not get to utilize any of the wonderful outdoor areas that are on property. I will have to make a return trip to check that out. Which I will for sure be doing!

Awesome weekend and wonderful property

Best VRBO we have ever stayed at. House was spacious and clean and had every amenity you could ask for. The property was an refurbished school house and we loved the historic features that have been preserved. We will be back. So perfect in every way. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

We already want to go back!

Great location and historic spot to call "home." We were a short walk to South Beach and within walking distance (but we drove) to the downtown area for dinner and some shopping. Location is super convenient to everything. The house itself is clean, beautiful, accommodating, and updated. We enjoyed the little details that related to the old school house it used to be. The kitchen was huge and had everything we needed to cook a few breakfasts. The sitting areas were comfortable. Only two of us stayed, but this would be a great place for a larger family or group of friends - lots of space! The master bed was hard as a rock, but that's the only negative thing I have to say. Everything else was perfect. Beautiful landscaping, the garage was nice to be able to park in, and the chalkboards were fun :) Hurry up and book - a note from the owner stated they will be making this unit their residence in 2024 and it will be off the VRBO market!

Wonderful place to stay! Place is much better than the pics show...and bigger than it shows! Stayed with our 6 and 10-year old grandkids and it was perfect. Fun on various chalkboards, foosball table, firepits, walks to downtown, and easy access to a playground and South Beach! Property is fully stocked with all you need.(Will just have to bring your own beach towels, chairs, etc) Owners responsive to needs and questions. Will EASILY return here!

Back to school

Charming and spacious with a comfortable walk to the beach and town. The chalkboard walls provided some fun through the week with games and messages. The bonfire setup was very comfortable. Generous space for our family of 5 and friend. Really enjoyed our week and had great weather too.

We love staying here! there is room for all of us and lots to do inside if by chance it rains outside. The sunsets are amazing!! The shops are fun and the ice cream is AMAZING Jennifer and kirk do all they can to make our stay perfect!
