Ware Haven Cottage is located on the Ware River in Gloucester County, VA. - a 20-minute run by boat to the Chesapeake Bay. Enjoy quiet seclusion in a peaceful setting with 270-degree water views, while being only moments from fine dining and shopping in the historic Gloucester Courthouse area. Spend time outside quietly observing the family of bald eagles and other birds like osprey, blue herons, and cranes who nest on the grounds. You may also witness a small pod of dolphins enjoying a playful swim down the river.
Located only minutes from the Virginia Historic Triangle - Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg, this charming, well-maintained cottage boasts beautiful craftsmanship on the inside and breathtaking views outside. The two-bedroom, one-bath home sleeps six. Fully furnished kitchen, two Smart TVs, kayaks, in-ground swimming pool, and lawn games. With over 200’ frontage on the Ware River waterfront, additional privacy provided by the inlet on the right, and beautiful wooded acreage behind, the Ware Haven Cottage offers peaceful privacy year-round. A boat dock is available for docking your boat or jet ski. The mean low tide at the end of the pier is 4 feet. Enjoy swimming, fishing, kayaking, boating, or just relaxing while the kids play basketball, yard games, or swing on the swingset! You may choose to relax in the 20x40’ inground pool during swim season (end of May through late September) with extensive pool decking, great for relaxing with a cold drink and an excellent book. The large screened-in front porch offers long river views any time of day. Enjoy the large fire pit when it gets cooler outside. It’s perfect for marshmallow roasting and making s'mores!

Relaxing vacation

The location and property were beautiful. We enjoyed our week stay. Loved how it was out of town and private yet close enough to travel for food, or site seeing. Nice private pool and lots to do on the property when you aren't site seeing. Cindy and Steve were amazing to rent from very accommodating.

Relaxing and comfortable, the perfect get away

The sunsets and sunrises were magnificent. This vacation cottage was a perfect get away vacation. Property and pool were super clean. Caught 20+ Croakers off the dock when fishing (hint use raw shrimp) Will definitely come again! Thank you Lannings!

Wonderful family getaway

Clean comfortable cottage with so much to do at the house and in the surrounding community. Close to restaurants and a quaint downtown. Historical sites are close by, too. Highly recommend for families. Cindy was a great host and everything went as smooth as possible.

Breathtaking Views

The cottage was immaculate and the view’s breathtaking. The owners were so sweet and welcoming. My family had the best time. This has definitely become one of our favorite vacation spots!!

This is an exceptional place. The location is just stunning, and it is nicely hidden 1/2 mile or so through some woods off of a rural road, but groceries etc are available about 10 mins away. Really good fishing off the pier. Location is reasonably close to a lot of interesting things to do (Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Yorktown, etc.), but also nice just to hang out at the cottage. Space was good for family of four. Exceptionally clean.

Beautiful Escape

Our family really enjoyed our stay. The property is gorgeous and the cottage was very spacious. We especially loved fishing off the pier and swimming in the large pool. There is so much to do in the area and on the property. We didn’t want to leave!

A wonderful time of solitude

Gorgeous and immaculate property. The pool (a rarity in the majority of rental properties on the Middle Peninsula) was the cherry on top! The welcome basket was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Only suggestion I might offer is for a lamp or two in the living room to avoid having to use bright overhead lights at night. A gem of a property otherwise.

Small slice of heaven

This cottage has everything you could ever want to for a peaceful vacation. The large pool was at about 90 degrees and perfect for swimming on a hot summer day. The views are just incredible, you’re tucked away in the woods, but also overlooking the quiet river and pond with great birdwatching. The dock is a great place to watch the sunset and so is the screened in porch! The home is very clean and tidy and all linens are provided. The location is tucked away, quiet and peaceful, yet stores, shopping centers, restaurants and gas are only a 10 min drive away. We’ve stayed here twice and plan to stay again!

Beautiful location

Absolutely beautiful outdoors right on the river. Peaceful and lovely. Home inside is smallish but just right for 2-3 people. We stayed with our college age daughter and it was fine. My only suggestion for the place would be some lamps in the living room to avoid having to use overhead lights in the evening. I would not suggest staying in this location with any small children—the steps to the loft bedroom are open and a fall risk for littles.

Breathtaking

Property is absolutely amazing. The drive in to the property makes it feel like your miles away from everything, but walmart and restaurants are 10 minutes up the road. We loved the pool. We got to see a couple egret, a couple river otters but the best was the 4 dolphins that came in. My husband caught a small sand shark which we did not expect! A fall break getaway

My family and I all have different ideas for what we wanted to do for our fall break vacation and the Williamsburg area met them all. We picked this place due to having a pool and kayaks. The place was cute and quaint. Close enough to Williamsburg but far enough to be away from people. The hosts were very prompt in communications and left a welcome gift for us. The place was clean and well maintained.

Even better than described

The setting is idyllic; the house is sparkling; the hosts are thoughtful and prompt. What more can you ask for? We can’t say enough about this property. The pool was a perfect respite after a long day at Busch Gardens. Even the trees seemed straight out of a storybook. A true gem.

Clean!

The property was very quaint, relaxing and comfortable. The pool was huge! The river was wonderful too. We stay in vacation rental homes 6 to 8 times a year and this home was the cleanest (inside and out) that we have stayed in!!! The welcome package was a very nice touch. Thanks for a wonderful stay! We will be back!!

An absolute fantastic place to stay!

The main feature that drew us here was the private pool and it was amazing. The house is super clean, The property is beautiful with the most peaceful setting on the river that is relaxing and regenerating. The owners are Quick to respond on any questions you might have and make you feel very welcomed and at home. We would definitely rent this place again because there is so much more we wanted to do while we were there. Thank you!

Calm and relaxing

We were looking for a quiet place to swim and enjoy the waterfront, and Ware Haven was just perfect. The house was clean and comfortable and the pool (although cold for the end of the season) was sparkling and so, so relaxing. We brought floats but there were all kinds of noodles and floats available. We loved seeing which birds were perched in the trees by the water throughout the day and spotting crabs in the water around the dock. It's a lovely place to spend time. It was an easy drive into Gloucester where the food and shops were wonderful. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. I'll be recommending the area and Ware Haven in particular to everyone.

Beautiful Views, Quiet Getaway

This house is just lovely. We took our tween boys down for spring break so we could visit Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Those destinations are a bit of a drive, but the relaxation at the cottage makes it worth it. The boys enjoyed the basketball court and fishing off the dock. I think the house would be exceptional when the pool is open and it’s warm enough to sip your coffee on the screened in porch. (We were there in a chilly, windy late March). Highly recommend!

Hidden Gem

This property was absolutely gorgeous. I took my family out here for short of a week and we had an amazing time. We swam, fished, kayaked, played basketball, enjoyed meals outside, and just made wonderful memories together. Steve and Cindy are wonderful hosts and were only a text away. We will definitely try and book again in the future. You can't go wrong at the Ware Haven Cottage!

Fantastic Experience

Our time here was absolutely wonderful. The property offers fantastic views and a tranquil experience along the river. The home itself is charming, well maintained, very clean, and functional. We love to boat, swim, and spend time outdoors. We lived in ‘the city’ for a long time, but couldn’t resist the charm of Gloucester County! We fell in love with this property in 1995 for its beautiful views, privacy, and central location in the county. We have raised our three children here, and they are among the biggest fans of the Cottage! We especially love that our grown children love the Cottage, too, and are always happy to come back for fun, family days spent on the river!

Gloucester County offers an ‘off the beaten path,’ small-town feel. The local dining and shopping on Main Street are just ten minutes away and remind us how simple life can be. The Gloucester Brewing Company, our very own microbrewery, is a very popular spot on Main Street.
This property offers privacy and seclusion while being close to many conveniences we’re used to. We love eating quiet dinners on the pool deck, enjoying the views and the peaceful quiet after a fun day playing on the river or the pool. But when we need to, we can always run to the local Walmart, Food Lion, or Dollar General!
