PERFECT PLACE IN THE CENTRE OF JELSA

AFTER HAVING SEVERAL VERY NICE AND FRIENDLY CONTACTS WITH THE OWNER IN ADVANCE,WE FOUND A NICE APPARTMENT WITH A LOT OF PRIVACY. LOCATED IN AN OLD HOUSE WITH A SHADY PATIO AND GARDEN AND A WONDERFULL TERRACE ON THE ROOF FROM WHERE YOU CAN WATCH THE HISTORICAL CHURCH SQUARE WITH ITS QUITE LIFE OF JELSAS PEOPLE AND TOURISTS. JUST THE CHURCH BELL REMINDS YOU EVERY HOUR THAT THE TIME OF YOR STAY IS PASSING AWAY.

Fantastic location, charming property and excellent host

Myself and my boyfriend has a wonderful stay at Captain Niko's House (apartment 2). The roof top terrace was particularly great, and we spend a lot of time up there taking in the lovely view, enjoying the sunshine and relaxing. You cant ignore the fact that the church tower directly opposite chimes pretty loudly but to be honest I got used to it and it just added to the charm in my opinion! Everything is within easy reach from Captain Niko's which was great, and what a gorgeous place Jelsa is. We walked to various beaches/coves, went kayaking, had dinner and drinks at the harbour (which is beautiful). I would certainly go back and if I did Captain Nikos would be top of the list to stay. Lada was extremely helpful, answering any questions we had and giving useful advise on local transport etc. I would definitely recommend!

Great Apartment and location. Very relaxing. Couldn't ask for more

My wife and I (mid to late 50's) have just returned from a delightful 4 night stay in Apartment 2 on the first floor. Jelsa (apparently pronounced Yelsa) is a beautiful town built around a small harbour (check out Google street view and I'll bet you'll book). The waterfront buildings are lovely as are the four churches (don't just visit the main one opposite the apartment). The apartment and town are perfect for those who want a quiet break. I wouldn't recommend it for those with children or those looking to party - Hvar town is where you need to go for nightlife. Visiting in early May not all of the restaurants or boat & car hire shops were open though, even so we were spolit for choice. We understand the season tends to pick up at the end of May. The apartment for two guests is ideal and for us it looked better than in the pictures. The roof terrace is a real bonus (if a bit too hot though the owners have installed a cold shower so you can cool down - no soap or shampoo though as the water is sensibly drained onto the garden). The kitchen is well fitted and there was ample hot water for both of us to shower one after another. What really makes the apartment is that you feel as though you are a true guest of the family - it has after all been in the same family for over 100 hundred years. It has a lovely homely feel but what really tops it is Lada - she is so helpful and speak great English. We would recommend the apartment 100%. Briefly we flew into Split in the morning and caught the 4.00pm ferry (pre booked online and there are ample left luggage lockers at Split port) and arrived at Jelsa at 5.30pm . The apartment is literally a two minute walk from the waterfront. First day we explored Yelsa, second day we hired a scooter and went into Stari Grad, Hvar town, had a late lunch at Vrboska before exploring the east of the island in the afternoon. Finally on our last full day we had a lazy morning on the roof terrace before heading off for a swim at a cove around the headland (head north east). Finally transferring the money for payment was very straightforward. We used Transferwise - much cheaper than a bank and for us it was straightforward with the money arriving the next day. To sum up it is a lovely apartment as all the reviews have said. You won't regret it. ps excellent wifi speed at the flat too!

Excellent apartment in a traditional stone house which is very clean and well maintained. The apartment is situated in an excellent location, close to , but just away from the main square, which offers a variety of restaurants , cycle hire, boat trips and a number of shops The owner , Lada was very helpful, assisting with ferry tickets and general arrangements Would definitely recommend J & J Sheffield

Charming, characterful and quiet location

From the outset we knew that this would be a great place to stay ! Communication with the owner, Lada, was excellent and her responses to our enquiries were always prompt, informative and friendly. The house had a beautiful courtyard framed by bougainvillea and passion flower and the upstairs apartment was everything we wanted - spacious, clean and comfortable. Set in a good central location just out of the bustle of the port, we felt at home. We hired bicycles for the week to explore the coastline, finding wonderful quiet coves to enjoy the Croatian sunshine and swim in the crystal clear sea. In the evening we would wander into the town and eat in one of the many excellent restaurants. As it was the last week of August, we experienced the wine festival - Jelsa becoming a vibrant, bustling community in contrast to quieter nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Capt Nikos house... and we are already planning to return next year!

Do not hesitate! Just book it!

If you have come to this apartment looking for a unique property in a picturesque setting with peace, tranquility but also the chance of adventure then look no further. Do not risk missing out by looking else where. I fell in love with Apartment 2, Captain Niko's the moment I looked at the pictures and I fell even more when I arrived. It provides the perfect base for your holiday. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on the balcony, listening to the church bells. Sunday was a treat! I worried that, as someone who loves their sleep, the bells would make me grumpy. I was so wrong and I so miss opening out the shutters and listening to the sounds outside. The facilities have everything you may require. The apartment was spotless and has been very well taken care of. The owners were extremely helpful with travel plans to and from the island. There is a whole folder full of information provided on arrival with advise and ideas to improve your holiday with the best places to eat, location of supermarkets, where to hire etc. Jelsa itself is my dream destination. Take a bike, a kayak or a walk to a secret cove to swim, snorkel or just bask in the glorious sun away from any crowds. We walked to Vbroska, the next village along the coast one day. We also caught a bus to Hvar. It takes 40-50mins but so worth it because there is so much beauty to look at along the way and Hvar is stunning. We hung out, danced and watched the sunset at Hula Hula bar whilst there (it's where the cool people go, we were just pretending for one evening!). Every evening we walked into the harbor in Jelsa and were spoilt for choice for restaurants. There are even a couple of bars to sit, have a cocktail and people watch. Heaven. I would highly recommend Jelsa and Captain Niko's. I do not need to recommend to friends and family as they have already seen our pictures and fallen in love too! We are a couple in our early 30's/late 20's and the island was perfect for us. We do not like the big 'resort' holidays with all the bustle that comes with that environment. At the same time we like to have things to see and do should we choose. Hvar and Jelsa are the perfect setting as you can be as social or secluded as you choose and all within the quirky Captain Niko's. My only concern is that too many amazing reviews will mean that it is fully booked next time we want to visit!

Charming accommodation on a beautiful island

A charming and well equipped traditional stone house right in the centre of the quiet town and harbour of Jelsa. We really enjoyed the views from the roof terrace of the square by the church and fortress and of the hills overlooking the town. The open air shower on the roof was a great bonus after a day spent swimming in the sea. The kitchen was very well equipped. We also enjoyed the lovely views from the bedroom windows of the hills and of the beautiful bourgainvillea growing in the court yard. Lada was a great host and she made us feel very welcome she also had lots of interesting and useful information about the town and island. There are many rocky coves along the shore line where you can swim in the crystal clear waters. We hired bikes and enjoyed cycling along the coast and to the town of Vbroska and beyond. The town of Hvar is also well worth a trip. Getting there by bus is really easy and very cheap. I would recommend taking the water taxi out to the islands. There are so many excellent restaurants in Jelsa, both by the harbour and up the hill at the back of the town. We didn't have a bad meal all week. Excellent for fish lovers! All in all, a fantastic week.

Beautiful old house in the heart of Jelsa

We stayed in the upstairs apartment, which was beautifully presented and well equipped, with a single air conditioning unit in the bedroom. There was a lovely roof terrace with table, chairs and a shower for hot summer days. We had breakfast there most mornings. The apartment is very conveniently located in the centre of Jelsa but also very quiet being one square back from the front. If you're lucky enough to be there on a Sunday you may hear the choir from the rooftop terrace. Jelsa itself is beautiful with several great bars, restaurants and swimming spots.

Gorgeous apartment with terrace a real added bonus

Lovingly renovated apartment in gorgeous traditional house with courtyard entry, steeped in family history. Lada and Tony were very helpful, met us at the bus station, helped sort out a forward travel glitch and sent back forgotten glasses to us. The apartment is very spacious, clean and comfortable and has a very well equipped kitchen. During our trip we mainly ate out but the terrace at Captain Niko's with it's lovely outlook over the church and square enticed us to stay in and cook and have dinner there. There are 2 good sized supermarkets by the bus station which is a 5 min walk away and good fresh fruit and veg sold on stalls opposite open til late every day. The location is great, 2 mins from the bustling lively harbour and surprisingly no noise can be heard from this busy area at night. The church bell is undeniably loud on the hour (especially on the terrace) but adds to the character of the place and it didn't bother us at night when we had the air con on. We hired bikes from T Club (Lada's recommendation) and a kayak from there too. If we went back we would probably hire bikes for the whole time as it's a really good way of accessing more secluded parts of the coast quickly. We ate out one night at Nono's (up the lane to the right as you leave the house) and had a lovely meal there. We arrived by ferry at Hvar town and caught the local bus over to Jelsa. We would recommend the sea plane if returning to Split Airport as this was a fun experience and a good price. All in all we we definitely picked a good one in Captain Niko's House and would recommend it highly.

Unique, comfortable and full of character.

I stayed in the upstairs flat and had a great time. Lada and Tony are very kind, gentle and helpful:you couldn't wish for nicer hosts. The flat is both very pleasant and very comfortable: it has a well equipped kitchen, good bedroom with air con, lovely cool courtyard and the huge roof terrace, with outdoor shower, sunbeds, dining area. It feels like staying in part of a house with character and history, rather than just another holiday let. It's perfect for a couple, and it's a great place to stay which is warmly recommended.

Perfect location in centre of Jelsa

We absolutely loved our stay in Jelsa. The apartment with roof terrace was exactly as described, extremely well equipped, clean and within easy walking distance of everything Jelsa has to offer. We arrived by Sea Plane and left by Catamaran , both a few minutes from the apartment. We had professional and friendly service and food and drink wherever we went on the island but must mention some of our favourites in Jelsa town - Bistro Star, Pizzeria Pape, Tarantela Bar, San Antonio Bakery and the Skver bar by the town beach. Owner Lada supplied really helpful information and was respectful of our privacy. We used public transport and hired a car for a day from the helpful Antonio at Rentals Rapidus, it was a vintage VW Beetle convertible and great fun for exploring the south side of the island. We really can't speak highly enough of the accommodation or the town of Jelsa!

A wonderful week spent at Captain Niko's in Jelsa!

Myself and a friend (both aged 28) have just returned from a weeks stay at Captain Niko's House in Jelsa and what a fantastic time we've had! Lada couldn't have been more helpful with helping us to plan our trip. After a number of email exchanges with Lada, we decided to book to stay in the larger apartment with the roof top terrace and we are so glad we did! The other apartment has a beautiful courtyard garden which gives some well needed shade in the day, but I have to say it was well worth the extra euros to stay in the larger apartment so that we could enjoy eating our dinner and sipping wine whilst watching the sun set from the roof terrace! The apartment itself was very spacious and had pretty much everything you'd need for self catering. The only thing that we didn't have was an oven/grill, but we were happy to cook our meals using the hob no problem. The apartment is also very well located! It is tucked just behind the main square of restaurants and cafes and couldn't have been handier for the bus station, supermarkets and seafront. Hvar is very mountainous we discovered, so it was a real treat to not have to climb up any hills to reach our accommodation! As for Jelsa itself, what a special place! We arrived by seaplane from Split airport which took all of 13 minutes to get there (by European Coastal Airlines). The seaplane lands right in Jelsa and then it is a 5 minute walk to Captain Nikos House. We fell in love with Jelsa as soon as we'd arrived, and after only a week there felt like we had really experienced local life and come to appreciate why the locals are so passionate about where they live. A fantastic holiday - just what we needed, and made so easy thanks to Lada who also gave us some great recommendations of days out and places to visit. Thanks Lada for your hospitality and for a great time at Captain Niko's. We hope to come again!

Wonderful apartment and holiday in Jelsa

We have had a wonderful holiday staying at this property. The property was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The roof terrace offers great views of Jelsa and the nearby church. We enjoyed sitting there for an evening drink and meal and watching the sunset. The owner was extremely helpful and met us off the catamaran. Any queries or questions were answered by a short text or phone call. The apartment is very central but is tucked away behind the square in the old part of the town so it is quiet. We did hear the bells but they didn't really disturb our sleep and it does add to the charm of the setting. We enjoyed visiting the numerous restaurants in Jelsa but can recommend Me and Mrs Jones in the harbour. We also visited nearby Bol on the island of Brac on a boat trip. Lada also helped us to arrange a visit to Humac and the restaurant there was a lovely place to spend the evening and again watch the sunset. The tips in the holiday file in the apartment are worth viewing. The beaches are rocky but you can hire sunbeds on Mina beach and the sea bed is sandy so you can paddle and swim in comfort. Also the transfers to and from Split airport worked very well with a bus to the harbour and the catamaran. We hope to return to Jelsa very soon!

Stay at Captain Niko's House in Jelsa.

This is a fantastic property, lovingly restored, kept immaculately and great location - about as central to Jelsa as you can get. Our favourite part of the property was the spacious terrace which offered great views of the church and surrounding town. Complete with dining table + chairs, loungers and out door shower. In addition to this, great customer service was provided from start to finish by owner, Lada. Jelsa offers a nice selection of restaurants and bars, walks and pebbled beaches which make for a relaxing break. It also makes a good hub for excursions with boats heading out to other islands. Jelsa has a lot of business driven by tourism but it also remains unspoilt. We had a great week and would consider staying again.
