The region

Dunster is a medieval village on the edge of Exmoor National Park in West Somerset, dominated by its magnificent castle perched on a wooded hilltop above the High Street.

Often described as one of the most intact medieval villages in England, Dunster has a rich history stretching back over a thousand years. The iconic octagonal Yarn Market, built in the early 1600s, sits at the heart of the village -- a reminder of its prosperous wool-trading past. The broad High Street is lined with independent shops, galleries, tea rooms, and characterful pubs, many housed in listed buildings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.

The village has its own Post Office with a cash machine, a deli, and a good range of places to eat and drink. For larger supermarkets, banks, and petrol stations, the coastal town of Minehead is just 1.5 miles away -- Tesco and Morrisons are both on the outskirts with long opening hours. Most shops in Dunster keep traditional hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending in summer.

Dunster hosts a lively programme of events throughout the year, including the Dunster Show, Dunster Country Fair, and the much-loved Winter Festival in early December when the village is lit by candlelight with music, dancing, and medieval re-enactments in the streets.

Great location for exploring Exmoor and lots of glorious walks from site. Nice to have a hot tub to soak/relax in especially as no bath in property. (I’m a light sleeper anyway , but found traffic road nose overnight annoying)

Lovely place just as pictured, but as someone with mobility issues the shower access should be photographed better. The shower base is about 18inches above the floor with no grab bars. As such it was to inaccessable for me. I was very dissappointed, basin washes were the go, with bending into the shower to wash my hair using the hand shower! It was tempting to turn the bath room into a wet room, but alas no drain in the floor so i didn't. Husband had no trouble. It is a very beautiful site, relaxing, quiet and we enjoyed our stay. Though the terrain was a bit challenging to navigate, quite steep in places but do able with assistance from my long suffering husband. The swimming pool would benefit from a properly designed handrail on the steps. I could not use pool, yes there was a ladder but not suitable for me.Sorry for the whine but I like to give my honest thoughts in a review.Other than the shower and the pool access we had a great stay, apartment was great, everything you needed was there, the surrounding area stunning. Our host was wonderful. We stayed 7 nights and glad we did. S & C from Australia

Photos do not do this place justice! We booked this holiday very last minute so weren't quite sure what we'd be getting, but it turned out to be a complex of cottages all nestled on beautiful grounds with lovely views. The cottage itself was very basic and needed some updating and a good clean, but it didn't spoil our enjoyment of the holiday, and from hearing other guests views it sounds like the larger apartments might be in better condition. We really enjoyed sitting on our private patio and sitting next to the ponies late in the evening. The site generally felt very peaceful, although there was occasional noise from the road, more noticeable in the early morning, and the walls must be very thin as every night there was constant loud snoring from another guest! Nothing of this spoiled our enjoyment though and we had a lovely time.
