With honey coloured stone and climbing blooms, Wren Cottage is a quintessential Cotswold holiday cottage which sleeps four guests, in two bedrooms, with a family bathroom. This characterful Grade II listed property has an open plan sitting and dining area with a wood burner, the perfect setting to curl up around as the winter nights draw in. The plush, colourful bedrooms with original beams are a wonderful place to rest your head after a long day exploring the local area. Wren Cottage is also dog friendly!

The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, typically on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, however, we would recommend checking the exact date ahead of placing your booking. This is a traditional fair for gypsies and travelling people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted. Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. Whilst many visitors enjoy the colour and vibrancy associated with the fairs, other visitors prefer to avoid Stow on these dates

Dirty and needs attention but potentially a lovely cosy cottage to stay in.

Needs a good clean, repairs to toilet seat, shower door, bigger and warmer duvets on single beds, boiler service, log burner service and some new kitchen equipment. This has the potential to be a lovely warm cosy cottage retreat. If above jobs were done I would stay again and recommend it to others but not in its current state. Great location for the town.

Great cottage and location

We loved our stay at Wren cottage in Stow-on-the-Wold. The cottage was fantastic the classic furniture and a very up-to-date kitchen. If I can give a little bit of advice the shower was modern but the dividing screen kept falling open and water from the shower got onto the bathroom floor. For the rest we loved it.

A lovely stay!

A really enjoyable stay at wren cottage. Amazing value for money and such a great location. Road was quite noisy but we still slept super well in the comfy beds. Anything we needed was responded to promptly. Would definitely recommend and stay again :)

Cosy base that’s centrally located

Perfectly located for Stow, just a short walk to The Porch House. The cottage was generally clean, well equipped, and nicely decorated, with good‑quality linen and towels. The off‑road parking and the thoughtful touch of complimentary milk and biscuits were much appreciated. A few areas could benefit from some routine maintenance to bring the property up to its full potential. Some windows and bathroom fittings would benefit from a deeper clean, bugs in light fitting, an anti-slip bath mat is needed, and a few ceiling cobwebs (landing/living room) and dust build‑ups (bathroom extractor /behind radiators) were noticeable in places. Some décor elements such as cracked/water stained ceilings, peeling paint, bubbled wallpaper—would benefit from a sand back and light touch‑up. It is situated on a busy main road so quite noisy but not troublesome once asleep. Overall, it’s a lovely base in a fantastic location, and with a bit of seasonal TLC it could be even better. Was reasonably well priced for its location and for that reason would stay again.

• Bed mattress was way to soft and caused to much partner disturbance • Only hot water came out of the shower rose no cold water was available • Shower door kept opening • Kitchen sink mixer tap was loose • Lots of road noise from the A429

Short Stay

Perfect location with lots on-hand; Only downside was the location to a very busy main road which has a lot of traffic from early morning and all through the day, other than that it is an ideal cottage with plenty of great walks in all directions; Stow has some lovely pub/restaurants to end the day in too.

Would stay here again

The cottage is very charming and extremely well equipped. Location was good both within Stow but also to get around to the other villages. We were worried about facing the main road but it didn’t end up bothering us. Bear in mind the fire starter pack is advertised to be available from October - April but doesn’t include October and April (but can be purchased from the petrol station right opposite) Would stay again and would recommend to others.

Lovely cottage

We had a lovely time at Wren Cottage. It was perfect for us as a couple with a small toddler. The place has been done to a very high standard. There was everything you could need in the kitchen. The road was noisy but we had ear plugs so it didn’t bother us. The location was excellent and parking right outside.

Lovely Cotswold cottage

Lovely country style cottage with lots of character and original features, very well equipped and beautifully decorated with plenty of space. Great location on the edge of Stow with lots of places to eat, drink and shop nearby and some good walks. Only small negatives would be there is some traffic noise so light sleepers might want to bring earplugs, and the 5pm check in time was quite late (normally would expect it to be 3pm especially when there's an early 10am checkout too).

Nice little get away

We had a lovely stay in this little cottage which is perfectly situated for walks around Stow. The only issue with this property is the cleanliness, it needs a serious deep clean. There were cobwebs in every single room and the carpet looked like it hadn’t seen a hover for quite some time. The shower door was also broken so wouldn’t stay closed but we managed to wedge a towel so the door stayed put. It’s hard to believe the cottage was in such a need of cleaning when you consider check out is at 10am and check in is at 5pm. That’s 7 whole hours you have to do some serious cleaning, there’s no excuse. The location is ideal and the cottage itself is very cosy but the cleaning really needs attention

A Wonderful Stay!

Wren Cottage is the perfect cottage for a stay in Stow-on-the-Wold. Walking distance to everything in Stow and close to all the gorgeous villages of the Cotswolds. Being able to park out the front of the cottage was ideal and the cottage itself very comfortable and cozy. We had nights in for dinner with all the relevant kitchen supplies available and nights out in the village just around the corner. Whilst on the main road into/past the village, there was no road noise from within the cottage. Can't recommend highly enough - we had a magnificent stay and would definitely go back! The chocolate biscuits left for our arrival a very nice touch!

Stayed for a month, remote working. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. Was worried that the traffic noise might be a problem but it wasn’t. Internet was fine for voice calls. Upload speed was a bit slow. Lot’s of nice walks nearby. And Stow is a great town, much quieter than nearby Bourton-on-the-Water. I’d happily stay again

Lovely property, just the right size. Perfect location for strolling into town for shopping, restaurants etc. Plush bath & hand towels, well equipped kitchen. Could have provided small body wash lotions, shampoo and conditioners in the bathroom for guest use, but that’s a more minor point. A couple of plates & mugs were already chipped prior to our arrival, so that should be looked after better, prior to guest arrival. Didn’t communicate with the property manager, so gave a 1 star rating there

An beautiful cottage in an ideal location to explore the Cotswolds

We chose Wren cottage a we were looking for somewhere dog friendly, in walking distance of the town. Wren cottage was beautifully decorated and perfect for the two of us. The kitchen was well equipped and the welcome book was full of information (although we couldn't find the fan which would be useful on hot days). The outside courtyard could do with some maintenance (and table for 2 would fit better), but this wasn't an issue as we didn't use it. Stay Cotswold were available to answer our queries, and helped when we had an issue out of hours. They checked in on us the following day and couldn't have done more. The road was quite noisy, but not an issue if the windows were closed (we just needed them open as it was really warm!). We loved the character of the building and would definitely stay again.

Christmas Staycation

The cottage was great, we have stayed in stow many times and the location was perfect. The cottage had everything we needed however could have been prepared more for a holiday with a toddler. Ideally a baby gate set up prior to arrival. This was probably the only thing for us which would have helped a lot. I should have specified this prior to visiting so probably my fault. Parking generally was ok, it was a little tough to get a space if you left through the day and come back later on. It’s first come first served but it’s free and right outside the cottage row. Parking was also found on the main road. Staff were quick at replying but because it was an agent you were bounced from pillar to post sometimes for simple requests like early check ins etc… check in is from 5pm which is a little late in my opinion. I did ask for an earlier check in but was only confirmed on the day. Overall we would return, for us it had everything we needed the decor was a little dated downstairs but it was nice and clean. Thanks for a great trip.

Cottage not a good experience. Expensive for what it is.

Lovely little cottage let down by housekeeping. On arrival found dirty glasses, cutlery been put away. Kitchen cupboard utensils/saucepans thrown into cupboard. On moving table in lounge found corner of room not been touched (see photo). Booked from Wednesday to Saturday but would be same price if we’d arrived Tues due to pricing structure. I’d advise a phone call to query if you think about booking. Quite noisy due to single glazing and situation along major main road. No heating - this had been turned off and no instructions on how to put on. Made several phone calls to “emergency” number but no response. Five more calls made following morning - all go to answerphone. Eventually sorted but exasperating experience! In view of this review would be nice to include photos.

Had he been contacted he would have been able to promptly address and rectify these concerns. He is now working closely with the housekeeping team to ensure such issues are avoided in the future. Regarding the booking structure, StayCotswold properties are typically available in set booking slots—Monday to Friday and Friday to Monday. For any queries about pricing, we always recommend that guests contact our office directly for a full explanation. We are sorry to hear that you initially experienced difficulties reaching the property manager concerning the heating. The heating system at Wren Cottage operates via a HIVE remote control, and detailed instructions for adjusting the temperature are provided in the property information folder. As noted in the property’s location details on our website, Wren Cottage is situated just off the A429, which runs through the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold. Being a Grade II Listed period property, it features original single glazing, which unfortunately limits sound insulation. The property is viewable on the location map on the website. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back to the Cotswolds in the future.

Cute & cosy marred by some poor maintenance.

We loved the location, perfectly placed for exploring Stow and environs with excellent Cotswold walks and superb hostelries all within easy reach. Despite being close to the busy Fosse Way the traffic noise was barely intrusive and parking was plentiful. The overall cleanliness was marginal and the large bathroom mirror was filthy. The shower glass needed maintenance and would not serve its purpose without wedging with cloths. Most importantly, the wood burner is in dire need of repair: it leaks badly and cannot be sealed, result: works more like a furnace than an economical fire. Simply put too many chefs, owner > agent > sub agent > cleaners/maintenance. Recommend a proper examination of the property between clients by a thorough individual. Wren Cottage has the potential to meet higher standards.

Wren cottage

The cottage was fine for 2 people but would have been a squeeze with 4. It had all the amenetues we neededThe cottage was clean on the surface but could do with a deep clean. The windows and window frames were very dirty. The "garden" was full of weeds. The gas hob igniters and the cooker hood were not working and he hive thermostat was not connecting so no central heating. The management came to sort this but neither was fixed. At the end of our stay I emptied out a completely full vacuum as I found there was barely any suction. The hoover couldn't have been emptied for a long time . It filled a whole carrier bag. I know other guest reviews mentioned the cottage being on a main road with traffic noise but that wasn't a problem. It was a good location to walk into town and easy to drive to and from. Apart from the above issues it was a lovely place to stay

Girls get away - weekend break Wren Cottage

The cottage is adorable - old and authentic - very pretty. It is set back off a fairly busy road - which is something to be aware of but was not a big problem as it is in a lane adjacent to the road itself. The neighbouring cottage is double-fronted with a large garden that backs onto ours. They had a BBQ until late both nights with a noisy dog so it was not quite as peaceful as we hoped. Parking was quite tight at the front but we never failed to find a space near our cottage so was not a problem for us. The courtyard garden was very small and a little overgrown - I am sure the owners could fix the overgrown bit easily ( I nearly did it myself!) but that was a little disappointing but perhaps I am being too picky. That said it is so close to the most beautiful shopping and browsing lanes, market square and gorgeous pubs - we had lunch at the stunning Porch House. We loved the town of Stow. As the cottage is old it was a little darker inside than the photos led us to believe - it was also a little chilly on our first evening there as temperatures dropped a little but the plug-in radiators and cosy blankets soon sorted that out. The kitchen was lovely - well equipped with everything you need and milk, tea bags and basics supplied which was appreciated. The bathroom was clean and functional, nice shower, and nice clean white fluffy towels. The beds were amazing - super comfy and cosy, with lovely feather duvets and pillows and we slept well. Overall, it was a really nice place to stay for our first visit to the Cotswolds. Good value for money; we were happy with it and we would stay again.
