À propos de l’hôte

Ann and Cliff moved to Robin Hoods Bay when Cliff could work from home and they realised that they could live anywhere. They chose this beautiful seaside village with is rich history and and active community. They bought Falconhurst, a large seven bedroomed house in the perfect place, at the top of hill so they could enjoy the sea and the old village but are five minutes away from the busy old village.
They came with a large family, but now the children have grown up they decided to down size within Falconhurst, converting the top two floors into a spacious accommodation that any family would enjoy. Instead of trying to maximise income they had taken a wall down to make a large lounge from two rooms that would allow families to enjoy their stay especially during bad weather days. We have noticed that many guests stay in lots more than they planned because the accommodation is so comfortable.
Their youngest daughter Laura lives in Hurlfield, the bungalow across the road. She has two small children and has taken on the job of managing the accommodation, taking great pride in making sure that the rooms are spotless, and is especially keen to talk to families with children to make them feel at home in our village. She meets and greets all our guests.
Ann and Cliff are passionate about keeping Falconhurst a happy place, full of life and especially like the noise of children enjoying the house as their children did.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement
Cliff and Ann did not come to Robin Hoods Bay by accident. When they decided to move from the Midlands they spent some time looking at different places in the UK to live. When they came to Whitby the decision was easy.
Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay are brilliant places. Whitby is full of history and atmosphere. Bram stoker wrote Dracula whilst looking up at the mist covered ruins of Whitby Abbey. Now the town is a magnet for goths and during the two goth weekends vampires and ghouls descend from all over the world.
If you like walking this is the place for you. All our guests treat themselves to the coast walk from Robin Hoods Bay to Whitby. We provide guests with a guide to the many walks some easy some more challenging along the cliffs or through the woods or along the old railway track.
The area is full of wildlife, especially birds and seals. The beach is rich in fossils, rocky pools full of life as well as stretches of sand.
Robin Hoods Bay is unique. Once the village of 200 fishing families it is also the village of smugglers, secret tunnels and tales of danger, romance and betrayal. Many of our guests book our friend Brian (aka Austin Powers) an accomplished comic actor who does a smuggler's tour of the village for small groups on demand. Its always the highlight of their stay.
What attracted Cliff and Ann to Robin Hoods Bay was also the strength of the community. Local people are well organised, running the special Victorian weekend, the Baytown players and their plays and many weekly events at the community owned village hall. Some fifteen years ago Cliff held a meeting in the local pub which started the village owned Broadband Cooperative www.rhbmesh.net.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique
Most visitors sadly do not get the chance to connect with the local community when they stay at one of the second homes or company owned lets. But when you stay at Falconhurst you will learn about the people in the village, get plenty of local stories and get to know about all the local events. Laura does a blackboard which she keeps up to date with details of all the things happening. Its no wonder that now a lot of our Falconhurst visitors are "returners" and see Robin Hoods Bay as their second home.
Visitors to Robin Hoods Bay often don't realise how crucial parking is. For those staying at properties with no or single parking spaces it can become a real problem. We have a spacious drive and have additional parking across the road at Hurlfield.
Our community is under threat. Second homes and company owned lets are making it more difficult for families to stay in the Bay. We are active in trying to find ways to preserve our town and village, working with the Town Council, those in nearby York dealing with the same problem and also linking with communities in places like Dubrovnik and Venice. In the meantime you as guest can help us by staying in locally owned accommodation, knowing the money you spend stays in the community and you are helping Laura bring up her two children in our village. We also in our personal guide point you to the locally owned shops and pubs so unlike many of the tourists you can leave our community the stronger for your visit.
