Lovely rural property with comfortable spacious bedrooms, clean and well decorated in a pretty location on edge of Gillingham. Convenient parking on site and easy check in, with good communication from host. The main issue with the property is the kitchen and dining table. Property description identifies kitchen is dated. No problem. Our own kitchen is dated, But the cutlery drawer fronts on these kitchen cabinets are falling apart and the cooker is an antique, by modern standards. The cooker hob consists of solid metal plates which take an age to heat up and retain high heat for a long time after you turn them off. As the property is described as budget accommodation for young families this would not appear ideal. Also the dining table is listed as seating up to six people. Six people cannot eat comfortably around it. It is too small and rickety. Believe us we tried with family friends from the village. Yes, technically you can seat six, but too small for six plates, no room left for cutlery, side plates, glasses etc. A shame, as otherwise this property comfortably hosts six people. Gillingham does not appear to have much for young families, but is well located for Stourhead, the coast, Shaftesbury and Sherbourne. It has a great fish and chip shop by the CO-OP, a brilliant pub called the Phoenix in the town centre where our family group receive a warm welcome, and excellent real ale, The Town Museum next to Waitrose is full of interesting local history.
