This lovely area is dotted with walks, and pretty villages of thatched cottages, and lies just south of the 125-acre Sutton Bingham reservoir, home to many migrant birds including osprey, as well as having excellent facilities for fishing. A short drive takes you to ancient Sherborne with its lovely abbey and castle, and boasts a wealth of fascinating shops to explore. Alternatively, Thomas Hardy’s Dorchester, Montecute House, Forde Abbey and Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum are all easily accessible.
